Justice John Roberts – Chief Truth Maker?

From the diaries

Call Chief Justice John Roberts what you will. Whether you believe he’s a yellow-belly turncoat or simply the unfortunate victim of presidential bullying, there is one thing that cannot be denied. In upholding the individual mandate as a tax, Justice Roberts may succeed in doing what those in the conservative movement would have considered utterly impossible: Justice Roberts may make an honest man out of President Obama yet.

Unintentional or not, it is a weighty undertaking and certainly one that is making Justice Roberts quite unpopular at the moment. However, it may just yield Republicans a political advantage looking toward the November elections. After many months spent denying every accusation that ObamaCare would simply be a new tax on the American people, it seems that Mr. Obama must now own up to the truth that those of us on the right figured out long ago: ObamaCare is most certainly a tax, and a hefty one at that.

Not only is the individual mandate component a personal tax on each American citizen, but the ObamaCare legislation itself actually contains significant tax increases; something that has been glossed over time and time again by the Administration and the media. While many of these taxes have already gone into effect ($40 billion, to be exact), that is a mere fraction of the total $500 billion in tax hikes ensconced within the ObamaCare legislation – a bill so famously large and convoluted that Nancy Pelosi informed us that they (Congress) would “have to pass the bill so you (the American public) can find out what is in it.” President Obama certainly knew what was in the bill, and yet he still wasted time that would have been better spent fixing our ailing economy, on shamelessly promoting a bill that he had to lie through his teeth about to pass.

But not anymore. It’s time to call a spade a spade, Mr. President. Your massive bill has at its very core a new and unprecedented tax on the American people. And while those of us in the conservative movement may still be reeling from Justice Roberts’ decision, it is important to realize that at least it has started to lift the veil of pretence that ObamaCare has been hidden under for far too long now. It remains to be seen how this decision will pan out in the November election, but as the American people become better informed about the blatant lies of ObamaCare, we can only hope that that will translate into votes cast in the right direction come Election Day. We will probably never know Justice Roberts’ true intent in casting this decisive vote, but I remain hopeful for now that we may still see a benefit in it yet.

I don’t care if we net 400 House seats and all the Senate seats up for grabs, what he did was wrong. He undermined the Constitution and rewrote the law from the bench. As constitutional conservatives, we should not be praising such action because it “benefits” us. We hate it when liberals twist and turn law for their benefit. We should be livid at Roberts!

Tell me this: With Obama’s executive priviledge gambit coming up in a few months, is it right for an Obama-friendly judge to rule in his favor because he wants him to be reelected, despite the law saying it can’t be used to cover up wrongdoing? If you’re answer is no, then don’t excuse Roberts for what he’s done.

      …their tax refunds are reduced.

      …their tax underpayments are increased.

…Congress attempts to pass a tax increase.

…their health insurance benefits are reduced.

Not now, in 2012. In 2014 and beyond. In Obama’s second term.

cease immediately. A dash of cold water lest you were going down that path: what Roberts just did,was the equal force of undoing Heller and Citizens United for our side (look em up) – politically and legally speaking – and much more. He knows what he did, for sure. Somewhere in his inner child, and the conversations in his mind with them, I suppose he was pleasing some liberal professor or liberal family figure from his past, and fancies himself cute now in some way at least to them. But starting NOW, back in Reality, **trillions** of dollars in statist bureaucracy and control, start flowing in the health takeover pipeline. Hundreds of pages of federeal and state administrative regulations get written NOW until Feb 2012 , that may never be completely found let alone located and eradicated or rescinded. if we ever can.Risk managers in corporations of all sizes have to start making decisinos NOW for their companies, they cannot wait for Nov 2012. For whatever reason McConnell said the distasteful thingt he said (“may be hard to repeal”) , it is exactly the truth now, it may be hard to get this thing back in six months even if we hold both houses on the numbers, plus the WH. I am not a defeatist, I am a realist. Justice John Roberts is not our friend and can never be trusted again.

This probably hopefully will benefit America/Conservatives IN 2012,but given this courts actions since refusing to even hear the open and shut GM Bondholders case, through the recent ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION/NATIONAL DEFENSE CASE,I doubt ROBERTS meant well? Forget those sent to THE COURT by Leftist Dems, they are sent their to destroy our CONSTITUTION,and would love to breast feed WILLIAM AYERS.

But,even Reagan sent some anti- AMERICANS to the “supreme court” by mistake?

When you have 9 people in DC in high end graduation gowns who have the last word in the USA for over 300 million LEGAL AMERICANS,and 5-6 of them now, either hate our can’t do their only FREAKING SIMPLE JOB of defending a non-breathing small page document.

You can’t give any 9 people even those who may have started out as good Americans that kind of power over the STATES that DC is trying to USURP.Congress has how many members, and maybe the 1%ers actually can be trusted. And AYERS/ OBAMA,in his mind those other two branches in DC mean nothing unless they side with him AYERS.

And it isn’t possible to make an “honest man” out of that @#$%^&*( community organizing liar.

      • JX12

No so-called “benefit” is worth this. Even if striking it down would have exponentially increased Obama’s chances of being re-elected (a big “if” in my opinion), I would nevertheless have taken that deal rather than have to face the path laid before us now, the end of which is by no means certain.

Many Democrats decided to risk throwing away their political careers in order to force this monstrosity on us. I fear many Republicans are not as committed to their values, and will instead do whatever they think they have to do in order to preserve their careers, their standing in Washington circles, their so-called legacies…whatever. Nevertheless, this is the only avenue left to us now – whereas if John Roberts had not been a coward, this law would already be history.

        Absolutely disgusting. Lawless. Unconscionable.

Republicans in the next congress need to man up and take this thing out. If they think it’s going to end their political careers, so what? Do it anyway. Don’t be a John Roberts.

Just a general comment regarding the main post.

  • nepanyrush

It would seem to be a tax on only on those without health insurance.

    • Common_Cents

“taxing deadbeats” is a bunch of hogwash. They are getting handouts, those that don’t pay for premium or the tax are not levied, pursued, or jailed. They will be getting health tax credits amounting to many thousands a year.

Where is the money going to come from?

Secondly, if you dont have the “right” health insurance you will be taxed. No more HSA and major medical. You must pay for a mac daddy policy deemed by government panel to be sufficient or you will be taxed.

There will be no opting out or dissent!

      • renl57

A tax credit for some is always a tax increase for others.

        • westcoastpatriette

the Declaration of Independence states. And it goes on to describe our God-given rights, Then it declares that in order to secure our rights, “governments are instituted among men…deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

Deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. Our government is no longer operating with just powers, but their powers and the way they are using them are tyrannical and evil. They are blatantly ignoring that they do not have our consent to do what they are doing with this evil law. And the coward Roberts would never dare to consider that notion, would he? The Supreme Court ignores the fact that over half of the states in the Union did not want this law.

We have to fight this and not stop until the entire law is pulled up by its roots. Our government has become a tyrant operating illegally. We must stop this no matter what the cost. I am still so angry I cannot see straight.

why do you think the word “tax” will even be mentioned in the lame stream media?

Why do Republicans always think, “oooh, we’ll really get him THIS time!” Look at the recent past? How did all this crap get through? Look at all the caving that has gone on? Budget/debt ceiling talks? SCOTUS appointments, too many caves to mention.

Caving is so easy, even a DC Republican CaveMan can do it!

Once this massive tax goes into effect, people will realize that the “insurance” that they are paying for will only cover 70% of their medical costs, and only after a HUGE deductible is paid.

        That’s gonna be fun….

        • JSobieski

one reason why premiums will skyrocket is that Obamacare declares war on copays and deductibles. . . . at the expense of premiums.

  • JimmyGee

Here is the truth. The Supreme Court just told Obama and Romney that THEIR helath care mandates are TAXES! Both the US and Massachusetts health care mandates are one and the same…TAXES! Romney’s own campaign is agreeing with Obama! I think it was a message to the Obama campaign saying, “You don’t call me out on mine, I won’t call you out on yours.” In my opinion Mitt Romney’s campaign has already surrendered on the Obamacare issue. The only hope I hold on to is that the super-pac’s will hit Obama on Obamacare.

    • Viet71

Why do the _____s in Congress have taxpayer-funded health care for life?

    • renl57

In both cases, if you don’t buy health insurance, you are hit with a penalty on your tax return, which adds to your final computed total tax due. (Federal Form 1040 and Massachusetts Form 1 respectively)

And just as Obama had promised he would never raise taxes on the middle class, Romney has repeatedly claimed that he implemented RomneyCare without raising taxes on MA residents.

TELL me not, Sweet, I am unkind,
    That from the nunnery
Of thy chaste breast and quiet mind
To war and arms I fly.

True, a new mistress now I chase,
    The first foe in the field;
And with a stronger faith embrace
    A sword, a horse, a shield.

    Yet this inconstancy is such
    As thou too shalt adore;
I could not love thee, Dear, so much,
    Loved I not Honour more.
