The words of John McCain stirred my heart this election season, and I have not forgotten them. Fellow Christians there is still many battles to fight, and a war to win over the heart of American. We can not go quietly into the wilderness in a time that our nation so desperately needs us the most. Now is the time to put your armor on and stand, stand up and fight!
I believe there is a strong movement among Christians to turn the heart of this country back to the Judeo-Christian values that it was founded upon. We will not accomplish this solely through some political means, while we must not waver to hold the political fronts that we are currently engaged in, we must also engage the real enemy that has lead our country astray. He is a powerful enemy, not one of flesh & blood, with powerful lies, that has turned the hearts of many away from the truth, and has weakened our personal testimony to the world by getting us focused on the things of this world instead of heavenly things. We can not win this war by engaging him in our own power & might, we must engage him in the power of the Holy Spirit & take back the ground that we have allowed him to take: first in our own hearts, then our homes, then our churches, then our local communities, and then our greater governments. So my friends meditate upon the words of this great hymn, the Word of God, which is quick & powerful, sharper than any two edged sword, hold fast your faith, pray, and engage the enemy for our Commander in Chief, the Lord Jesus Christ, has not quit the fight & will lead us to victory!
Sound the battle cry!
See, the foe is nigh;
Raise the standard high For the Lord;
Gird your armor on,
Stand firm, ev’ry one;
Rest your cause upon His holy Word.
Refrain:
Rouse, then, soldiers, rally ’round the banner!
Ready, steady, pass the word along;
Onward, forward, shout aloud “Hosanna!”
Christ is Captain of the mighty throng.
Strong to meet the foe,
Marching on we go,
While our cause, we know, Must prevail;
Shield and banner bright,
Gleaming in the light;
Battling for the right We ne’er can fail.
O Thou God of all,
Hear us when we call,
Help us one and all By Thy grace;
When the battle’s done,
And the vict’ry’s won,
May we wear the crown Before Thy face.

exitsfunnel Thursday, November 13th at 12:34PM EST (link)It’s true that a majority of Americans are Christians but it’s also true that half of them voted for Obama. Sailormike’s response was out of line, there’s no question about it, but I think that it’s also true that the GOP’s electoral chances would be better served if there weren’t the perception that it was so explicitly aligned with religion.
given the subtitle of Harold’s diary - Warning: This diary is intended solely for Christians - wouldn’t it be more appropriately posted at a religious website rather than a poltical one?

Attack Mode Thursday, November 13th at 12:46PM EST (link)Our Founding documents clearly state that our rights come from God…it’s part of the uniqueness of America. The founders did not intend to have a secular state, rather they intended it to be non-denominational. Politics and Religion are interwoven regardless of what you would like, they always have been. What you posted amounts to saying that Christians shouldn’t be allowed to join the conversation. I don’t think that is correct nor do I think that is what you really want. Also, Harold is trying to inspire Christians to help affect social change rather than relying on the Government to affect social change. Seems to me you should be applauding that effort.

Secular Government
exitsfunnel Thursday, November 13th at 1:01PM EST (link)The founders clearly intended for a secular government. The word ‘God’ does appear in the Declaration of Independence but not anywhere in the US Constitution, the explicit blue print for our government. In any event, my interest isn’t in trying to divine what the founders thought or didn’t think about the role of religion in government.
Rather it is in the degree to which the GOP is seen as a religious party. You accused me of saying that “Christians shouldn’t be allowed to join the conversation,” but I said no such thing. Harold is free to say whatever he wants - just like the GOP is free tie itself as closely as it wants to explicit religious ideals. But if you go down that road, don’t expect to win any of those seats back in the Northeast or West anytime soon.

eburke Thursday, November 13th at 2:24PM EST (link)consistency.
So, the next time you posit in a diary that life should be areligious, you’re willing to state right now that you will be ok with those who believe that religion is the foundation of a just society posting that you need to get out of your cocoon while they remake the world.
Just checking.

exit...just exactly why would this only be
eburke Thursday, November 13th at 2:31PM EST (link)appropriately posted at a religious website. I must have missed the part of the Bill of Rights which states that our nation needs to be free from religion.
And the fact that Harold said ‘for Christians only’ is just a manifestation of the gestalt which Christians have been molded into. They’re so used to be told that their voice has no place in public discourse that they feel the need to quailify their religious opinions with a note that they ‘understand’ that they ’shouldn’t’ be trying to force their views on others. Kinda like the unfortunate belief by the individual in Sacramento who was ‘outed’ by the arts community for supporting Prop 8. He found the need to apologize for his beliefs becase ‘they hurt people’s feelings’.
If anything, you should be thanking Harold for being cognizant and sensitive to the possibility that non-Christians might find disagreement and/or angst with his worldview.
Instead, as usual, those preaching tolerance the loudest are, well…the least tolerant of differing views.
Typical.

Harold is free to post whatever he wants on RedState, I never denied that.
I’m just expressing the opinion that the GOP would be better served if it were viewed as less overtly religious. If the GOP wants to be a viable national party it’s got to make it’s case on secular grounds, even if, individually, members are motivated to participate by their religious beliefs. Or it can just be a Southern party.
And as far as all of the ‘those preaching tolerance stuff’ and something about the arts community in Sacramento goes, I have no idea what you’re talking about. I assume that you’re throwing some kind of canned argument at me, the relevance to my post of which, I can hardly guess.

When you write this:
eburke Thursday, November 13th at 3:08PM EST (link)it reflects that you perhaps are not as erudite and well-informed as you believe yourself to be as I’m betting that most on this site wouldn’t view the reference as some sort of ‘canned argument’ but rather a reflection on news that was fairly extensively reported yesterday.

As to the rest of your reply, Aaron covered the ‘freedom from religion’ part pretty well. If he didn’t, I would refer you to many of the Founders speeches and writings (specifically Washington’s farewell address and John Adam’s writings) to address the meme that somehow the founders expected/wanted/demanded that our political system and discourse be purged of religion.

So the GOP would be better served if it didn't seem so religious?

How silly the secularists are when 92 percent of Americans believe in GOD
And lo and behold 65 percent of Americans believe that the Founders intended for us to be a Christian nation.
Darn those stupid Americans and their perceptions
Now exits and sailormike not being a religious person myself the first thing I recognized about this particular diary was THIS ISN’T FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT CHRISTIAN so for you both to intrude on a diary with your bogus opinions of how the GOP should abandon the Religious Right is first off out of line and second not in keeping with the majority of Americans…..why not just go on and join the HUMANIST group!

exitsfunnel Thursday, November 13th at 3:27PM EST (link)I’m being absolutely consistent. I’m not lobbying anyone to limit what Harold can and can’t post on Redstate. I’m just arguing the politics of the issue. I think that a lot of social conservatives underestimate the degree to which believers of secular government feel alienated by the GOP. And when I use the phrase ‘believers in secular government,’ I’m not referring to atheists or agnostics, but to people of all faiths who are more comfortable keeping their religion separate (at least in the most overt sense) from their politics.
The GOP’s just not going to win in the Northeast or the West by imploring Christian to do this and Christians to do that. The party is on the brink of becoming essentially a Southern party and that’s really unfortunate.

eburke Thursday, November 13th at 4:34PM EST (link)of course the 46% of those who believe in God and voted for Obama did so for the sole reason that the GOP’s pushing of religion turned them off. I mean, think of all the ads the McCain campaign ran promising to end abortion and enshrine in the Constitution an ammendment banning gay marriage.
I mean, surely they didn’t vote for Obama because they saw no real difference between McCain’s vote for the bailout and Obama’s, or that the GOP has become indistinguishable from the Dems in spending their money, or that McCain never hung the Fannie/Freddie mess around their necks.
I mean, come on, Jaded, how small minded can you be?

redeagle Thursday, November 13th at 10:17PM EST (link)I think what we Christians are missing is that we need to speak out for the good of all people. This is God’s world-it is not our job to make anyone believe anything-we are just to get out there and preach the truth.(and pray much)
Practically though, when our young people are reaised in such a secular culture, and as I am in a classroom and see Chrisitian students melt right into the forum of liberalism, I must say that we must have the parents teach more at home.
We also must get to our youth leaders and not only plan fun group stuff, Bible lessons, etc. we must also teach our students about Civics. I truly beleive this as Christian students are so indoctrinated in only the liberal stuff-academics, social norms, media, peers, etc.
I know this is lengthy but we must also fight against giving out welfare to people who could work. It gets people trapped into a lifestyle that could be a life long one.
Case in point. Look at all the young teens getting pregnant, living with mom and dad and drawing welfare, getting abortions paid with tax dollars, living with men who work but they do not marry and the mother and child/children draw welfare, oung girls getting pregnant and then do not learn the first time and get pregnant again and then let the state care for them.What a waste of people’e life to always have to live this way. These people never reach their potentional, etc. Not is it not only detructive to our economy it is not Biblical not to be responsible. We have got to quit being intimitated by liberalism.
Thanks for your comments & your secular ideas are great, but
Vaughn Harold Friday, November 14th at 7:27AM EST (link)we need real spiritual education among our youth. The real problem we are having among our churches is that most Christians don’t know how to walk in the Spirit. This is primarially because we love the things of this world more & secondly because we are lacking spiritual leaders who personal know how to walk in the Spirit themselves and can teach others also. I would add that not walking in the Spirit also destroys our testimony with the world because we have nothing better to offer them than what they already have.
The scriptures tell us that if ye walk in the Spirit ye shall not fullfill the lust of the flesh. Every problem you have given would be nullified if people would learn to walk in the Spirit. Walking in the Spirit is a daily battle for believers, one that most are not aware of, but that Paul addresses in Romans 7 with the solution in Romans 8.
In short, as I stated above, we can not effect a permanent heart change in our nation without the power & life found only through the Holy Spirit.
Fight on!
At least Christians are open & honest about their goals. n/t
Vaughn Harold Friday, November 14th at 7:42AM EST (link)Back to Basics
texaspatriot Wednesday, November 19th at 7:19PM EST (link)Our country is in a mess because we have walked away from so many of our foundational Christian truths. A lot of folks don’t necessarily equate money management with morality but the two are linked. As Christians we must walk the talk. It all starts at home:
Fiscal responsibility. Be a good steward of what God has blessed you with. Stay out of debt!
Take care of your parents in their old age. Folks SS started as a program for widows and orphans and now look at it–out of control. It is our responsibility as children to financially care for our parents as they age
Continue to care for our communities and folks in need. The Church in the U.S. does a great job but we must do more to save people from the government welfare gulag. Every person we get back on their feet is one less ward of the state.
Each of us doing the little things each day to be responsible managers of our money to help ourselves and our communities–is a small step toward helping restore true liberty in our Republic
God Bless Folks
You are correct. n/t
