*Some* Democrats Are Starting To *Get* The Problem(s) With Federally Funding The Slaughter Of Unborn Human Life

It’s not always easy for me to tip my hat to the left. They, by and large, have acted as if they were so wrapped up in their status as “The Majority” that they had forgotten what their jobs were; represent their Constituents on issues that matter to them…in Washington DC. Most have lost their way since taking over, but there are signs that a few of them are starting to understand the expression “a line Americans won’t cross.” And thank God for that:

A dozen House of Representatives Democrats opposed to abortion are willing to kill President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform plan unless it satisfies their demand for language barring the procedure, Representative Bart Stupak said on Thursday.

“Yes. We’re prepared to take responsibility,” Stupak said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” when asked if he and his 11 Democratic allies were willing to accept the consequences for bringing down healthcare reform over abortion.

“Let’s face it. I want to see healthcare. But we’re not going to bypass the principles of belief that we feel strongly about,” he said.

It should be enough that Americans, by huge margins, don’t want this health care nonsense to go through. So far it hasn’t been. It should be enough that Americans have had enough of those Political heroes who continue to make it clear they are more interested in saying they “got health care done” than in saying they put a stop to bad legislation we can’t afford and no one can agree on…and that the taxpayers don’t actually “want.”

It does appear that a handful of Democrats have finally decided that using Federal funds to pay for the killing of innocent human life just MAY, after all, be farther than they are willing to go in order “to get health care done.”

We’ll see.

these 12 or 13 have stood FIRM on abortion and for that they are to be applauded but they did vote for the more reckless bill that came out of the House with the public option and for that they should be CONDEMNED!

…has anyone been able to depend on a dem, moderate, conservative blue dog, throughout this process? They will fold, period.

This bill while providing federally funding of abortion would, at the same time, require people who oppose abortion to directly participate by forcing them to purchase insurance.

If a person of deep convictions refused to participate they will be fined, or worse. This “catch 22″ is deliberate in my opinion and has very serious implications.

Abortion is not healthcare. In this instance is being used as a cynical cold wedge issue against people of faith. Is this really the direction our nation should be going in?

is that it would require people of deep convictions to PERFORM abortions or lose their jobs! Can you imagine? Unconscionable!

I also think Catholic Hospitals would lose their funding if they refuse to participate. Amazing.

I am so sick of the few contolling the many in this country…whether it be on abortion, prayer in school, the pledge. Now they are even considering Rewriting text books to take references of God our of our historical documents! What’s next?

to put back the abortion coverage. If Obama keeps the Pro Lifers and flips the retirees from TN, and Matheson. He has his bill.

      …in the Senate bill.

Which puts them right back where they started.

      • earlgrey

        for reconciliation?

Or would they expect republicans to go along with passing Stupak language in regular order (as a regular law with the filibuster)?

        • rbdwiggins

It doesn’t mean they won’t try, but it’s probably a moot point now.

Congressman Stupak: “If it’s the proposal that the Senate passed and nothing’s changed in it, the Senate health care bill, if that’s the one they’re presenting in reconciliation to the members of the House of Representatives, I’ll bet you that won’t even come close to passing, it will be defeated soundly. Members do not want to vote for it. The process has been tainted and we’re not going to attach our names to it.”

Politicians lack principle. Believe me I would love too be wrong about this assessment.

    • JSobieski

with respect to the House Bill, Stupak et al actually have my confidence on this issue.

Make no mistake, Stupak is a lib–he is not even a Blue Dog in name only—but the man has some integrity.

Now there’s a date on the calendar. Just saying…

    • rbdwiggins

Obama’s “deadline” is irrelevant, because Speaker Pelosi doesn’t have the votes and will not schedule a vote unless she is sure the bill will pass.

The lips are moving, flapping, gumming, or whatever you wish to call it.

I definitely rspect Mr Bart Stupak for standing on principle against the pro-abortion crowd in Washington, its a shame there aren’t more men of principle like that on either side of the aisle. I still can’t actually believe they genuinely want to pass this thing, knowing that the voters will vote them out in 2010 and 2012 and then we’ll just kill the thing in 2013 anyway before it even goes into effect in the first place. No matter how bad a campaigner our 2012 nominee might turn out to be, all he/she has to say is ‘Vote GOP to save your Health Care’ and its all over, if they pass this thing. Can the Dems really be stupid enough to not realize something that obvious? My guess is they scheduled the vote knowing they’re going to lose, then they’ll tell their base they tried, and that will be the end of all the health care talk until after the 2012 elections at the earliest.

It is only a dozen or so Democrats in the House who stood up for keeping taxpayer funding for abortion out of any health bill. You can bet their home districts are heavily pro-life, and those in the north and midwest are heavily Catholic.

There are also four vacant seats which were among the “yes” votes in the House, so Pelosi must make up those and Cao’s (the only Republican “yes” the first time, a two-vote margin of victory) to hold a majority. That doesn’t count the 12 “yes” votes who held out for the Stupak Amendment, and who he claims will not vote for the Senate bill.

The fight over this thing is in the House. The Senate can ram through anything on “reconciliation” if they want to, but there could be long delays if Republicans are determined enough. But if the House passes the Senate bill and Obama signs it, it’s the law – with or without reconciliation.

Pelosi and Obama are shoving a socialist takeover of 1/6 of our economy with provisions for federal financing of abortions. Taxes are collected on pain of imprisonment. So basically:

–the government is holding a gun to your head saying pay your taxes
–the government would then take that money and give it to your local abortion doctor to kill babies
–Pelosi and Obama lie with a straight face about the fact their bill does this

Tax-and-spend, socialist, lying accessories to murder. That’s who is leading the Congress and the White House. No wonder the American people have had enough. I don’t want to hear any talk of third party until we give the Republicans a chance to take our country back one branch at a time (Congress in 2010 and the White House in 2012).
