Erick Woods-Erickson: Evil Incarnate

If you\'re not a Conservative that is...

All one need do is Google this man’s name and they would see for themselves just how terrible Erickson is…how dangerous he is to America…and just how much his very existence spells DOOM ™ for life as we know it. Quick-hide your women, shield your progeny…Erickson means to eat their livers and swallow their souls.

So one would think, at least, were one so inclined to click through to some of those chicken little stories out there in the nether world of the internets. From Non-Conservatives, to Academics and Liberal Elitists, to self-soiling and unprincipled Professional Politicians and firmly-entrenched good ole boys inside the M(ostly) S(cumbags) M(edia), each of these clowns has a tale of doom about the hell we’re headed for compliments of CNN’s hand basket. Problem is, as with every OTHER decent human being out there trying to do what he thinks is right for himself, his family, and his country, Erickson has pissed off people that disagree with his principles and can’t fathom that his success story grows and is in no small part sustained by his having stood unflinchingly by them.

What does the larger internet and political punditry community (unable to find success and relevance in its own right) decide to do when confronted with such a conundrum? Why, set out to unplug the microphone and drown out the voice…THAT’S what. I’m reminded, in these times, of a sellout of the US Military; an opportunist that made no small profit founding a website and swimming in the dollars of the angst of his minions – you remember Markos Moulitsas, don’t you? Tell me again how it is that Erickson is evil for starting in this business as an unpaid member, doing well enough at it to get hired on to RUN the place, and is now being asked to add his 2 cents worth on a freaking political News program? Oh, yeah, I forgot-it’s because he’s articulate, intelligent, experienced…isn’t an F-bomb flinging chimp for the party line…and Conservative. Did I mention he’s held elective Public office (Republican), too? All bad…ALL a threat to our way of life.

What was I thinking? [#facepalm]

I got into the blogging world entirely by accident. What drove me to it is less important than why I have stayed…and why I have invested so much of my time and money into being able to continue doing it: because I, too, have an opinion, and my forefathers ensured that I’d have the right to express it. I have a home base to do my blogging (RedState), but however far I might stray (Hickpolitics) from home I always come back.

Whether it’s because my friends at Redstate have had a horrendous moment in their personal lives that we don’t talk about out in the open web pages for the world to see, or just because we have happy news to share with each other…a hug, a virtual hand held, a shoulder to cry on (or a meetup for a beer to drown our sorrows in)… a marriage or a birth or a kid off to college or first grade…or a divorce or a death…we are a family. It’s not the writing for most of us, but the camaraderie and the fellowship that makes this place my home….and the Editors and Contributors and Diarists-their stories and their insights and their energy and commitment to what they believe in. And, in fairness, I’m sure these same truths are held in the camp of the political enemy; we ARE human beings after all, and while Politics is clearly a bloodsport, we are still Americans at the end of the day and we still give a flip about our country.

I’ve been at Redstate only a few months less than Erick. I’ve known him as a member of my “family” for going on 6 years. I’ve imbibed with him, I’ve laughed with him, and I’ve cried with him. I’ve watched him hold an 8 way conversation with a drink in one hand and the flaming hot keyboard of a cell phone in the other…and never missed a beat. He and I and countless other Redstaters have grown, together, from a little like-minded chatroom sounding board to the most prevalent and most widely read right-of-center website Community on the internet. He is my friend, and he is a friend to the Conservative movement-not because of Redstate, but THROUGH Redstate-which brought him, collectively, to the fore so he could help the rest of us grow to the next level. And, as a member of my family, I’m not taking this nonsense from the less-achieved crybabies on the Left sitting down.

I’m not all together surprised by the vitriol from our opponents over Erickson’s new gig at CNN, but I can’t help but laugh at the hollow logic of it. I am no friend of CNN, personally, over a great many things they have done with the news these past few years…not the least of which was their handling of the early Iraq days. Nor am I a fist-pumping frenziest over the Dozier story, and Capt. Funkhouser’s death because of her…though she did try to make amends with her head injury and PTSD coverage. My point? CNN is a news outlet, vying to stay in business. To do so, they need to be paying attention to their readers and their viewers…and most of all, to their advertisers.

The panty waists squealing like stuck pigs now over Erickson’s hiring can’t stop wetting themselves long enough to actually SEE that CNN is just doing what’s been asked of them all along; report the news and give analysis and commentary. What fear does Erickson’s entrance on to the stage actually instill in them lest it be that he might help them see they’ve been wrong? Failing that, then, I would think they’d be dancing in the streets…happy to see one of our Conservative own put up on stage so they can exclaim that Erick is PROOF the Conservatives are a bunch of dolts with tired and ineffective ideas.

Every one of us here knows which it is, and CNN’s decision to add him to the lineup only shows that they believe he’s got something to say that people want to (or should) hear. At the very least, they understand his addition will keep or gain viewership. Erickson’s got something to add to the debate just now about the state of Politics and Governance in America, and his point is just as valid as any of the other folks out there with experience and the guts to open their mouths and share it. CNN best serves its advertisers and its audience (and helps maintain its OWN relevance) by keeping it fresh, keeping it relevant, and giving ALL sides of the debate a place to air it out.

Good call, CNN.

Godspeed, my brother and good friend Erick Erickson…ignore the crybabies…we got your back man.

    Well said, Hay!
I’m so excited for this opportunity for Erick, his family, and our family. It’s about d@mn time we get an articulate voice for our views on somewhere besides Fox.
The left is scared. They know their time of absolute power is drawing to a close. Expect it to only get worse.
Meanwhile, Erick should wear their scorn like a badge of honor. Because it truly is.

  • Trelaina

I’m sure Erick is well aware of the tricks and scheming that will begin day one. They will watch every show and copy every word. The slightest slip of the tongue will be headline news on every leftwing blog worth its salt.

I saw a clip last night from Obama’s Fox interview where he stated that the Louisiana Purchase would help in Hawaii where they just had an earthquake. It will get no press, but just watch if Erick even pronounces a word wrong.

What they won’t see is that all this attention will boost your ratings and get your words out there.

Stand firm no matter what and know that we are supporting you.

    • Bill

once he has become a “boogey man” for the left.

  • Kudzu

ABSOLUTELY HATE this and its so fun to watch. I always considered CNN to be left of center and more general news than opinionated shows but the libs think this is CNN driving over the cliff and becoming “like Faux News”. They literally are eating their young over this and I love every minute of it. Even twits like @shoq can’t get over it long enough to drop an insult on conservatives other than Eric and he is still, 48 hours into this, throwing around FAIR’s letter/petition to CNN for removal of Eric…. AS A COMMENTATOR.

Its obvious now, if not apparent before, that the left views commentary the same as news… opinion is fact to them and feelings are real, concrete things to hold on to instead of a motivator to get something done. Eh, its fun to watch.

    • WarEagle01

Wow, that is one PO’d beta male. Apparently he wants to “take his country back.” I guess having overwhelming majorities in both houses of Congress and the presidency isn’t enough of the country for him. He needs CNN too! Beta males are funny.

      • Kudzu

Is despicable human being for the most part but normally reserves his ire for attacks on all thing Republican, conservative, American, and anything that crosses his mind. Its amazing he still can’t get over this event… I am truly twittered.

    • 1volunteer

Please tell us it’s figurative, Kudzu. You need to take that statement back. They’re not THAT bad…yet.

  • RedFox84

And that is, get elected. And that’s what drives the leftnuts crazy: that Erick is actually able to be effective, and that is views are shared by a majority of his fellow citizens.

The view-point of “Screw ‘em”(and please buy my book) and his expletive spewing co-travelers, isn’t.

  • Scope

because he had the gall to ban the birfers and the trufers, and, at one time the Paulbats. There are a bunch of those creatures out there crying about that. And don’t you know, that that makes him not a conservative.

At least CNN will have a voice of sanity for once, with Erick.

  • RedBeard

    1. Lefties getting nearly apoplectic over Erick invading “their” media = EXCELLENT

    2. Some so-called conservatives, the ones unable to see the forest for the trees, the preaching-to-the-choir types, the inward-lookers, the sitting-on-the-couch-complaining-but-never-doing-anything people, being critical of Erick’s move = TRAGIC

    • Bill S

because that one pisses me off even more than the leftists. You’d expect the lefties to get their panties in a wad. But the so-called conservatives that I’ve seen pissing and moaning about this just make me want to barf. After all the whining the Right does about CNN and how biased they are, and now we have a dyed-in-the-wool conservative infiltrating them. And they want to COMPLAIN.

Idiots like the ones in category #2 deserve everything they get.

It’s not tragic. It’s asinine. They need a swift kick in the nether regions.

  • orangemtl

Well done, Erick; well done indeed. What a great opportunity for you and your family, and well deserved after all that you’ve done and the vitriol you’ve endured from the leftists. Perhaps no more than many who do what you do: but the success is not merely yours, but for conservatives in general. We will share your success vicariously.
For this ONCE, I wish CNN great audience numbers.
The only thing that makes some angrier than lying about them is publicly voicing the truth. For this, the leftists will hate you. So, keep it up. We’re behind you 100%, for you are us.

  • Achance

but when it comes from what is ostensibly the Right, it gives me pause. There was/is a lot of nastiness aimed at Erick from what should be our side of the ditch and while it could be expected from Birthers and Ronulans, some of it is from people who don’t seem to be either. They seem almost to equate success with somehow selling out. Lots of stuff about what they consider RS’ snobbiness (my word) about language and content and about banning as an affront to free speech. Anyone who talks about free speech on a private forum and calls themselves a conservative is seriously lacking in self-awareness. And a whole bunch of the purism stuff that all too often shows up here as well as if somehow being hired by CNN to be a conservative voice automatically makes you a RINO in the John McCain mold.

    • janis

the criticisms of those who think that RS is too prissy for not allowing profanity, too elitist for requiring links to sources for supporting statement of “facts”, and altogether too picky for banning just about anyone, but particularly the birfers.

It takes guts to walk into the lion’s den that is CNN and be willing to tell the truth every time the red light on the camera goes on, no matter what the level of howling may ensue afterward. For Erick to do it on Fox wouldn’t have nearly the same impact. Those who think he’s selling out are the same ones who thought they made a statement by staying home on election day and not voting for for McCain. That statement was : I helped to elect Barack Hussein Obama.

    • momma

Even if you have recently discovered the virtues and freedom of conservative thought, but you still have the mindset resulting from the education/indoctrination you received at one of most of the nation’s public schools, taught by leftist ideologues from the nation’s mostly liberal teachers’ colleges – the mindset that says “everyone wins, regardless of the level of their actual achievement”, the one that says “self-esteem is a feeling you deserve, not something you earn”, the one that says “everyone is equal, therefore it’s NOT FAIR if you excel and I don’t” – then of course you will complain about the achievements of others, calling them sell-outs and other rude names. Because you know in your heart that you deserve the CNN job just as much as they do.

“They seem almost to equate success with somehow selling out.” They learned that in school. If you excel you will be ostracized, especially by your mediocre teachers.

“banning as an affront to free speech.” Also learned in school. They are seriously lacking in critical thinking skills and have internalized the leftists’ way of thinking, which is essentially narcissistic.

“too prissy” = come play in the sewer with me, everyone else is doing it.

“too elitist” = not egalitarian enough, and: you actually want me to do some homework?

I’m reading ‘The Death of the Grown-Up’ by Diana West. Mmm Mmm Mmm.

power and control. They are in a twisted tizzy because they cannot control Erick. Therefore they cannot control the message. Everything the Leftist media has been set up to do over the past several decades and have succeeded in, was: 1) control the medium, 2) control the message. Our side sees Erick’s presence on CNN as making inroads to getting out the truth to more people, they see it as they won’t be able to hide their lies and spin. They fear Erick. Now all he has to be to do is to be careful, because the Left seeks to destroy that which they fear. But he is sustained by his Faith, our Support, and his Principles. We must remember that.

I felt a tug on my heart when I heard EE was going to do this, out of concern for him going into the ‘lion’s den,’ but that is exactly what we should be doing and be delighted for the opportunity. Preaching to the choir strengthens us, teaching others enlightens them.

And do it with gravitas gratitude, not Kos attitude.

I just joined Redstate because the posts herein have gray cell weight that lean the right way of center.

Let others grovel in that sixth-alphabet letter “F” profanity pit, which also stands for “Failure.” As Red State members blog, comment, and editorialize, we must continue in Erick’s tradition of the fifth letter: E for Excellence, E for enlightenment and elucidation.

I’ve been out of commission w/ family down-town — this, on the eve of the healthcare vote. So,not much news reaching these ears for the past several days.

This morning, I didn’t go to CNN or FOX.

I came to Redstate to find out the latest.

I predict this is what will happen at CNN with Erick’s presence. And his common-sense and everyman approach will help spread conservativism into far corners, send light into some inquiring minds. Like .. truth.

I say let them bitch and moan. They’re just gnashing their teeth, get it?

Really nice Diary, Dan. Very heartfelt.

    For a second there, I felt very much a 5-yr-old Redstater. :)

God bless Erick and his work, God bless Redstate, her contributors, her diarists & her readers.

As for CNN, sometimes we need to send someone into the bastions of confusion to reveal the truth.

Erick can very much handle it.

  • Locked and Loaded

Almost – but I will definitely be looking on the web for some clips.

Now, I too have been a bit out-of-pocket, can somebody clue me in about who on the Right is taking shots over this?
