MEMBER DIARY

Is there ANY politician (besides Newt and Allen West) who will stand against Islam?

Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey has become a popular hero in many quarters for his fearless determination to restore New Jersey, which has the highest taxes in the country, to fiscal sanity. What vaulted him from merely “popular” to acclaimed “hero” was his pull-no-punches forthrightness. YouTube videos of Chris Christie talking back, rationally but firmly and wittily, to his opponents, quickly went viral. In an age of milquetoasts and mamby-pambies, Christie’s bold frankness was not just a breath of fresh air, but a vitamin B-12 shot in the arm for the politically anemic.

So why am I talking in the past tense? Because it turns out that Christie does pull his punches — in fact, he is woefully compromised — in an area that could not be more crucial to our national security: the inroads being made in our country by those who would replace the U.S. Constitution with sharia law.

Some of us first started getting a bad feeling about Christie when we heard his wishy-washy comments about the Ground Zero Mosque — which were especially disturbing since so many New Jerseyans died in the Twin Towers on 9/11. But we liked Christie so much that we tried to overlook it. Unfortunately, Christie’s Muslim-coddling comments look even worse now, in the light of recent revelations about Christie’s associations with radical Islamists.

Let’s start with Christie’s recent appointment of Muslim lawyer Sohail Mohammed to the position of justice on the Superior Court of New Jersey. Mohammed is not just any Muslim lawyer; he has defended alleged terrorists. From Family Security Matters:

Sohail Mohammed’s most famous clients would be “The Fort Dix Six”, the group of would-be Islamic terrorists from Yugoslavia and the Middle East who were plotting to shoot up the Fort Dix military base in N.J. in January 2006.

Equally problematic is Sohail Mohammed’s defense of Mohammad Qatanani, a radical imam who is the head of New Jersey’s largest mosque, the Islamic Center of Passaic County, which has long been the center of a dense web of interconnected radical individuals and groups.

In 2008, while Christie was the U.S. Attorney for N.J., the Department of Homeland Security initiated deportation proceedings against the imam, because Qatanani was alleged to be connected with Hamas.

So what did Christie do? The very night before the immigration judge was to announce his decision regarding Sohail Mohammed’s client, U.S. Attorney Chris Christie praised the defendant. Yes, he praised him, saying “My view is he’s always had a very good relationship with us, and he’s a man of great goodwill.” Where did Christie make this statement? He announced it at a Ramadan break-fast dinner.

Steve Emerson, author of American Jihad: The Terrorists Among Us and head of the Investigative Project on Terrorism, writes:

Qatanani has a history of Hamas support and was related by marriage to a leading Hamas operative in the West Bank. This fall, Qatanani will return to a New Jersey immigration court, where the Department of Homeland Security is fighting to have him deported.

When even Janet Napolitano’s defanged version of the DHS is trying to deport some guy, you know he must be bad!

In his initial application for a green card filed in 1999, government lawyers say Qatanani failed to disclose a conviction in an Israeli military court for being a Hamas member and providing support to the terrorist group.

Chris Christie at the Iftar dinner he hosted for Muslim leaders at the Governor's Mansion during Ramadan, August 2010

Oddly, Christie — a Republican who was then the U.S. Attorney for New Jersey — sided with Qatanani against DHS, allowing a top lieutenant, Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles McKenna, to testify as a character witness at Qatanani’s first immigration trial, and publicly embracing the imam at a Ramadan breakfast at his mosque. Christie later appointed McKenna as New Jersey’s head of homeland security…

Oh, great. Doesn’t that make you feel more secure, Jersey folks?

The U.S. Attorney’s office was not a party to the case, Christie said, and his praise for Qatanani was not meant to be “a commentary on the dispute between the imam and DHS” but after 9/11, he found the imam “to be a constructive force in attempting to strengthen our relations with that community.”

Ah, yes, one of those nice “community builders” — kind of like Imam Rauf of the Ground Zero Mosque? Well, not exactly. Qatanani makes Imam Rauf look good by comparison!

From Daniel Greenfield, blogger at Sultan Knish and an expert on sharia’s ongoing advances in our country:

Mohammed Qatanani was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, the organization that is behind both Al Qaeda and Hamas. [D]espite his own guilty plea to being a member of Hamas, and despite the fact that even in the United States, he had defended a charity that provided funds to children of suicide bombers (this is done as an incentive to reassure terrorists that if they die their families will be taken care of), Qatanani [has not yet been] deported.

I assume that Sohail Mohammed, having been given the job of Superior Court Justice by Gov. Christie, has had to tell Qatanani to find himself a new lawyer. But will Mohammed also have to give up his position on the board of a very problematic organization known as the American Muslim Union?

In a separate post at Sultan Knish, Greenfield elaborates on the AMU:

The Muslim American Union is not a benign group, it has been accused of being extremist in the past, and shares much of its leadership with the Islamic Center of Passaic County, a mosque that certainly is extremist. Despite its nature, Christie has appeared at the ICPC and befriended its Imam, Imam Qatanani, who admitted to being a member of Hamas. Sohail Mohammed defended the Imam, as his lawyer, and later spoke out as a private citizen. This raises concerns about both Sohail Mohammed and Christie.

There are legitimate concerns that the nomination is going forward as a payoff to Imam Qatanani of the ICPC, whose support Christie solicited during the election.

Imam Qatanani‘s association with the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization which seeks to impose Islamic law worldwide, and which has generated terrorist groups such as Hamas and Al Qaeda, raises legitimate questions about any politicians who would choose to affiliate themselves with him, and any organizations he is involved with. He has already shown the ability to compel politicians of both parties to do his will. The [American Muslim Union] is closely integrated with Qatanani’s mosque, and Sohail’s role in the [AMU] should bear close scrutiny, particularly in light of recent revelations by terrorist researcher Steve Emerson that the AMU list appears to have circulated anti-semitic apologetics for 9/11.

Sohail is not only on the board of trustees of this noxious group, but has also been the group’s general counsel. As such, he has often represented clients being investigated by our government on terrorism allegations.

Joel Mowbray, writing in the Jewish World Review, has more on the organization to which Gov. Christie’s judicial nominee has devoted so much of his time and talent:

The AMU often is highly critical of U.S. counter-terrorism efforts…. One online newsletter even included a claim that a “Zionist commando orchestrated the 9/11 terrorist attacks.”

Though the American Muslim Union appears moderate in its official literature — saying it is “dedicated to serving the American Muslim community and its unique needs” — the organization has interlocking leadership with a group that has allegedly raised funds for Hamas and hosted as a guest speaker last year an alleged Hamas member.

Four current and former AMU directors and executives have held or currently hold leadership positions with the Islamic Center of Passaic County (ICPC). ICPC was founded in 1989 by, among others, Mohamed el-Mezain [also the mosque's first imam], who was the Chairman of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLFRD), which the Treasury Department designated a Specially Designated Global Terrorist in December 2001 [for funneling money to Hamas].

According to Conservative New Jersey:

El-Mezain had actually boasted of raising almost 2 million dollars for Hamas. And his replacement, Qatanani, actually was a member of Hamas. An ordinary politician might have been forgiven for not knowing this, but Christie was the U.S. Attorney for New Jersey. It’s absolutely impossible that he would not have known the background of the Islamic Center of Passaic County. Yet Christie attended a Ramadan dinner, in the same place where terrorists had fundraised, and kissed Qatanani on the cheek.

Time to kiss Chris Christie goodbye as a serious contender for higher office.

I erred in referring to Gov. Christie’s “appointment” of Sohail Mohammed to the Superior Court. He has nominated him for the position. Mohammed must be approved by the New Jersey state Senate.

People of New Jersey: Bombard your state senators with phone calls!

My opinion of Christie took a dive off the cliff after I read this on Atlas Shrugged forum.

I don’t know where we’d be without her and her Atlas Shrugs blog.

Another national treasure is Daniel Greenfield, a.k.a. Sultan Knish. Pamela’s better for breaking news, and usually does multiple stories in a day; Daniel does one really, really deep, insightful essay every day, and, boy, is he good.

And of course, Pamela is a true activist as well as writer. Where would we be without her leadership against the Ground Zero Mosque? And I love her to pieces for her bus and taxi ad campaigns to help people threatened with “honor killings.”

Zealous, perhaps overzealous in her defense against jihad.

But I would rather have an excess of zeal than cowardice guised as tolerance.

So said John Adams in regards to his defense of the British soldiers accused in 1770 of what would later be called The Boston Massacre.

The crux of your argument is that Governor Christie is unfit for higher office due to his appointment of a man whose clients you objectionable. Would you also then argue then that John Adams was not fit to be Vice President and later to be President because he represented British soldiers who stood accused of slaughtering American Colonists?

You diary also fails to mention the reason there was even a supreme court opening to begin with:

    http://www.northjersey.com/news/politics/050310_Gov_Chris_Christie_to_nominate_Anne_M_Patterson_to_state_Supreme_Court.html

Not satisfied with activist judges on our state’s supreme court, Governor Christie exercised a rarely invoked authority bestowed upon the Governor of New Jersey and refused to renominate them. This infuriated the Democratically controlled state Senate. Said the Governor, “The court over the course of the last three decades has gotten out of control,” he said. “The only way to change the court is to change its members.”

In my opinion, and in the opinion of a far greater man than I, the nominee’s judicial philosophy is fair game but whom he chooses to defend in court should not be.

…what Sohail Mohammed’s clients did in the past.

The question is whether or not he SHARES their beliefs. And there is very convincing evidence that he does. I thought that I had made that clear when I said that he is a trustee of, and has been general counsel for, the American Muslim Union, a group that while advertising itself as “moderate” is in reality entangled with Hamas, Hamas-funding “charities,” radical Wahhabi mosques, and the Muslim Brotherhood.

You state a concern with activist judges. I’m assuming you mean leftist-leaning judges. Do you really see Muslim-activist judges as an improvement?

Readers may recall that already in New Jersey, we have seen a Muslim man acquitted of rape by a judge (not a Muslim himself) who said that because the defendant was a believing Muslim, and because shariah law advises husbands to rape and beat their wives anytime the wife doesn’t feel like having sex, the husband was not guilty since he was acting in accord with his religious belief.

I refer you to Geller the Great:

Gee, too bad we can’t all live in a state as enlightened and tolerant and multicultural as New Jersey! And with judges to enforce it!

The format of all the arguments against Christie (both in this diary and in the linked blog posts) and his judicial nominee and even the organization which the nominee represents all hinge on accusations or implications of ties to terrorist organizations.

Thus, If I understand the argument correctly, Christie is not qualified for higher office because he nominated an individual who represents and is a trustee for a group who have some members who have been accused of having ties to radical Islam. The fact that Christie worked directly with the individual in his capacity as a U.S, Attorney and the fact that the nominee has had to pass through interviews and background checks is seemingly not relevant to the individuals who wish to tie Governor Christie to Radical Islam. This diary makes, what are in my opinion, extraordinary claims about Governor Christie with the only “evidence’ presented being a few individual blogger’s assertions of guilt by association. To me the burden of proof is on the accusers in this case (the diarist and the linked blogs) and this guilt by association at least two degrees over is weak at best, and at worst a calculated hit piece against Governor Christie.

As to the Holding Mohammad’s clients against him, why then even bring up his whom he represents. From the Diary:

          “Equally problematic is Sohail Mohammed

          • http://westforwestwing2012.com heartlander

I plead guilty to dancing around and playing that silly game of who’s-connected-to-whom and how-many-degrees-of-separation. I’m glad that you called me out on it. I think I’ll do a whole new diary entry sometime soon and just cut to the chase next time.

What I should have explained is that with Islamists, the whole problem is precisely the fact that THERE ARE NO clear dividing lines between Islamist individuals and groups. CAIR, the AMU, the ICNA, the ISNA and the rest of the alphabet soup of Muslim organizations in the U.S. are all so enmeshed and intertwined it’s ridiculous to try to separate out any distinct threads, and I was foolish to go down that road. Not only do their staffs and boards overlap and interconnect, but more importantly, even if there were no personal contacts between them at all (which is indisputably NOT the case), there is the unity they share from all having the same goal: shariah.

CAIR, ICNA, etc., all share the same GOAL as al-Qaeda: shariah. They only differ on tactics and time-frames.

Since shariah is completely opposed to the U.S. Constitution, these groups are actively engaged in what can only be called sedition. The fact that they are operating with impunity in our country is a sad comment on many things, not least of which is the American tendency to prefer “blissful ignorance” to reality. That will come back to bite us, though. These groups are not going to go away by our ignoring them, and certainly, not by our appeasing them. We can either choose to deal with the problem now — or wait until the consequences are extremely unpleasant.

I encourage you to educate yourself about the reality of the current inroads shariah has made in America. Start with two reports and a short (30 minutes) video. The video is of Steve Coughlin, formerly the shariah expert at the Pentagon. The two (highly readable) reports were written by teams of experts in their field, true heavyweights.

            The Steve Coughlin speech:

I agree that CAIR, AMU, and the rest are so incestuously intertwined with radical Islamists like the Muslim Brotherhood as to make a separation of the two at a corporate level more useless than useful. That said, there certainly can be (and are) rank-and-file Muslims involved in those organizations whose intentions are not those of top-level leadership. I know quite a few myself who treat their involvement with CAIR in much the same way that an average American would view Kiwanis.

There are Muslims out there with an eye towards malevolence, but in large part, liberal American Muslims (who have, by and large, mentally bowdlerize Islam’s seminal texts and its injunctions vis a vis dhimmis and jihad) believe that they are doing American Muslims, and not terrorists, a favor by being involved with groups like CAIR. I have no idea whether this is the case for Christie’s appointment, but the fact that Christie knew the guy (and that he passed background checks) tells me that we shouldn’t dismiss his nomination offhand.

From a political perspective, maybe it does?

Besides there is a difference between ongoing ties to nefarious actors and representation of clients with an action in the past.

Whether or not the the men represented by John Adams or Sohail Mohammed were guilty, it doesn’t change my underlying belief that our system of justice is built on the principle that all men are entitled to representation.

…but We the People have a right to have judges who are not themselves activists sympathetic to a system of law that is directly opposed to the U.S. Constitution.

Sohail Mohammed is on the board of trustees, and has been heavily involved with, an organization, the American Muslim Union, that has multiple connections to radical Islamists whose explicit goal, stated openly, frequently and forcefully, is to have shariah law in force in every land on earth.

If anything, the tradition media has done their best to attack Christie at every opportunity. Just recently, the media has tried their best to create a controversy because the governor was on vacation in Florida during a snow storm.

Christie get high praise from blogs, radio hosts, and just general word of mouth because he bluntly takes on traditional left wing footholds like the media and the teachers union.

He did famously call a reporter for The Star Ledger (which has the largest circulation in the state), “the thinnest -skinned guy in America.” so I am sure the feeling is mutual.

… because what I LOVE about Chris Christie is that he’s not a milquetoast: Unlike so many GOP “leaders” he takes the fight to the enemy, at least when the enemy is the public-sector unions.

One of the things driving the Tea Parties is people’s frustration with Republicans who just roll over and let the Democrats roll right on over the rest of us. We want leaders who will call out these manipulative power-crazed slime for what they are. We want everyone to be as bold and outspoken as Chris Christie!

So when Christie came out with all this MUSH about the Ground Zero Mosque, and turns out to be way too buddy-buddy with various Islamists, it feels almost like a betrayal. It’s SO disappointing.

I know that no one politician can be great on all the issues, but it seems that everyone currently being considered for the presidency (with the exception of Newt, who I do not count as a serious possibility) is totally silent on the one issue that could be the most important: the determination of enemies outside the country and inside it to impose shariah law.

Sure, Cain, Pawlenty, Palin, Romney and others are all great on the fiscal-conservatism stuff. I respect each of them for their various gifts and credentials. And some of the contenders are great on social issues, I suppose, such as Huckabee and Palin.

But do you ever hear ANY of these people, talking forthrightly about the existential threat that is staring us in the face? Huck has said some very insightful and bold things in the past, though I haven’t heard anything lately (although that may just be a failure on my part to keep up with him). Also — Huck fans, please persuade me otherwise if you disagree — I have a hard time seeing Huck as a hawk.

Newt is, of all the people even being considered for the presidency, the only one with really solid credentials in this area. In fact, his speech last July at the American Enterprise Institute, “America at Risk: Camus, National Security and Afghanistan,” is one of the top three or four resources I recommend to people. It is positively brilliant.

But I just can’t see Newt winning the presidency, can you? And after reading here at RedState about his friendliness with Pelosi, I’m not sure I’d want him. I want someone who sees the Democrats/communists for what they really are: the domestic enablers of the jihadist enemy.

The only other person I trust on the national scene is Allen West, who is easily Newt’s equal in his knowledge, articulateness and boldness on the subject, but, barring some truly wild developments, is not a contender for 2012.

So what is it with all these other people? Most likely, they have nowhere near the sheer amount of knowledge that Newt and Allen West have. Perhaps they realize their shortcomings in this area, and hence are hesitant to speak about it and risk embarrassing themselves.

Or is there more to it? Do they suffer from the same version of “Stockholm syndrome” that most Americans, particularly Democrats, exhibit? That excessive eagerness to suck up to the mythical “moderate” Muslims, and keep up the George Bush bullsh*t about Islam being “a religion of peace.” Please. Your total ignorance is showing!

Islam is poison to a free society. I want people who will CALL IT OUT as such. And I am just not seeing them at the national level. Call me utterly frustrated. Not yet to the point of despair — but pretty darn frustrated.

      • http://westforwestwing2012.com heartlander

I said that maybe “the contenders” are hesitant to speak honestly about the Islamist enemy because they don’t want to show their ignorance.

Frankly, if you want national office, and you can’t make time to study up on the Islamofascist threat, you’re not qualifed to be our commander-in-chief, period. It’s analogous to the British (except for Churchill) who wouldn’t study up on Hitler — and then paying the price for it!

Sorry, given REALITY, anybody who wants to lead this country really doesn’t have an excuse to not become expert about our #1 enemy!

        • http://redmerrimack.blogspot.com/ charliebravoNH

for President. When he screams in front of the camera and says in frustration that he is not a candidate for President, how you not beleive him.

One thing not mentioned here is that NJ has a large Muslim population. You can look at that two ways. He is either pandering to them or not wanting to mobilize them in opposition. I beleive it is the latter. All politics is local.

          • http://westforwestwing2012.com heartlander

…because the Muslims reproduce at a much higher rate than the American average, and given enough time, they’ll just breed themselves to a critical percentage of the population, as they’re doing in Europe — and then it’s game over.

From the widely cited article “Jihad by the Numbers,” some frightening statistics:

Note throughout the exponential scale of Islamic influence as the percentage of Muslim population per country increases. Comments in square brackets are my corrective interjections.

            Australia: 1.5
            Canada: 1.9
            China: 1.0-2.0
            Italy: 1.5
            Norway: 1.8

“At 2% and 3% they [Muslims] begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs.”

            United Kingdom: 2.7
            Spain: 4.0
            Italy: 4.6

“From 5% on they [Muslims] exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. They will push for the introduction of halal (“clean” by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature it on their shelves – along with threats for failure to comply (United States).”

            France: 8.0
            Philippines: 5.0
            Sweden: 5.0
            Switzerland: 4.3
            The Netherlands: 5.5
            Trinidad & Tobago: 5.8

“At this point, they [Muslims] will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves under Sharia, or Islamic law. The ultimate goal of Islam is not to convert the world but to establish Sharia law over the entire world.

“When Muslims reach 10% of the population, they will increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions (Paris – car burning). Any non-Muslim action that offends Islam will result in uprisings and threats (Amsterdam, Denmark – Mohammed cartoons, murder of Theo van Gogh).”

The one anomaly in this set of statistics is Israel, which has not experienced uprisings and threats of violence. Its Arab or Muslim population enjoys equal political rights with Jewish Israelis. The suicide bombings and rocket attacks that have killed hundreds have been perpetrated by outsiders.

“After reaching 20% [of a population] expect hair-trigger rioting, Jihad militia formations, sporadic killings and church and synagogue burning:

            Chad: 53.1
            Lebanon: 59.7

“From 60% you may expect unfettered persecution of non-believers and other religions, sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon and jizya, the tax placed on [conquered] infidels:”

            Albania: 70.0
            Malaysia: 60.4
            Qatar: 77.5
            Sudan: 70.0

“After 80%, expect state-run ethnic cleansing and genocide:”

            Tajikistan: 90.0
            Turkey: 99.8
            United Arab Emirates: 96.0

I question the inclusion of “Palestine” in this set. “Palestine” simply means space occupied by stateless “Palestinians” in Gaza and the West Bank, and is the name of the state which Islamists wish to replace Israel, once it is destroyed. Turkey, after decades of having a secular, non-religious government, is beginning to turn “religious,” and seems to be yearning for the kind of Muslim government that cleansed the country in 1915 of non-Muslim Armenians in a genocide that predates the Holocaust.

Of the 20+ mentioned names for the 2012 race, everyone one carries liabilities. None that I know of have had any reason to address the Islamic threat…yet. Two I know have resumes that make them a solid “no” to me, and one of those, probably one of the brightest political minds I’ve ever seen…but with a sad history of blinking when called upon to put his cards on the table. No mas.

Still, if either of those guys get the nomination I’ll vote for them, for I no longer have any self-respect or personal dignity, having already voted for John McCain, while he had his boot on my neck, laughing, as warm pee ran down my back.

I’ll work hard to make sure that doesn’t happen to me again, but I will wait until they have declared themselves to make my case.

          That’s just my personal rule.

–and certainly not a Gingrich-West ticket!

I admit that when I first started commenting here at RedState, I was promoting West for President. However, I have my doubts now. One of the most important skills for an executive is his or her ability to read people and pick the right ones as his advisors. (Of all the candidates, I honestly think Sarah Palin is the best in this area–I don’t think she’s ever picked a lemon.) West’s initial selection of Joyce Kaufman as his chief of staff really threw me.

Another problem I have with West is that even though he’s pro-life, I don’t know if he has the passion about it that I’d like to see. (Again, in my opinion, Palin outscores him on this issue.)

Despite these doubts, I continue my West to the West Wing blog because I think it’s crucial that the bold, well-informed, well-reasoned, 100 percent opposition to shariah that West exemplifies needs as much exposure as possible — whoever it comes from! West just happens to be the politician who best articulates it.

I also like that West thoroughly knows, deeply understands and is totally committed to the Constitution and sees, as the Founders did, that our system of ordered liberty only works with a godly people.

But as I’ve said, the only scenario I see West as President in 2013 is if things get as bad in the U.S. by 2012 — and I pray that they don’t — as they were in Britain in 1940, which is when the Brits finally turned to Churchill for leadership. There are times when you absolutely must have a warrior in charge. But the people will only select a warrior to be in charge (I consider Churchill a warrior) when enough of them, first of all, realize how bad things are (we’re not even close to that yet), and secondly, have enough heart to actually want to do whatever it takes to win. The English people had that in 1940; I’m not sure they do anymore. And, despite the Tea Parties, I’m not sure a critical mass of Americans do. Will they, sometime soon? We shall see.

…”none of them…have had any reason to address the Islamic threat, yet”? WHAT?!?!?!

Shariah is making headway all over this country, we’re involved in two wars against Islamists, Iran is preparing nukes, and now, all this sh*t that’s hitting the fan in Egypt, Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, etc.

The Islamist threat is HERE WITH US, whether we like it or not, ALL THE TIME, 24/7. Is the threat not a “threat” until there’s another 9/11 or worse?

Vassar, you’re a brilliant man, I know that from reading your stuff. So I’m having a hard time seeing where on earth you’re coming from on this issue. Have you not read any of the reports on Sharia?

Here are some suggestions — choose one or more!

Coughlin is the former shariah law expert for the Dept. of Defense

American Jihad: The Terrorists Living Among Us, Steve Emerson’s book

The Grand Jihad: How Islam and the Left Sabotage America, by Andrew McCarthy

            I’m anti-Islamist, not anti-Islam, so let’s be clear.

About the rest, I was just trying to equate your title to your text, for one was all about the virtues of Newt and Allan, while the other was about the shortcomings of New Jersey’s governor. I like Allan.

If I misassessed that, then I apologize. I was speaking about the other possible candidates. I don’t think they’ve articulated much of an overall policy about Islam or Islamists, but that is not to denigrate them. That will all come in due course.

          • http://westforwestwing2012.com heartlander

I think we just come from really different perspectives.

To me it seems obvious that radical Islam — with its totalitarian determination to control the whole world (and it WILL NOT REST until either it does control the globe or we wipe it out completely) — is THE existential threat to the survival of Western civilization.

I gather that where you’re coming from, bankruptcy and total economic collapse look like THE existential threat.

Still others — and I’m one of them — agree with Fr. Frank Pavone’s (founder of Priests for Life) answer when someone asked him if he thought abortion would still be legal in America fifty years from now. He replied that either there will be no more legal abortion in America fifty years from now — or there will be NO AMERICA fifty years from now. In other words, killing our own children is the death of civilization. I agree.

So I see all three “legs” of the three-legged stool as completely interrelated. People who can convince themselves that a baby is not really a baby can convince themselves of anything — including that terrorists are not really terrorists, just misunderstood victims whom we can appease with nice talk; or that financial collapse “can’t happen here” and that the way to get out of debt is to… spend more!!!

We are a people in deep denial — about babies, about our finances, about how much the Islamists really hate us and how deeply they believe that the world will be better off if they just exterminate us all.

The moral vacuum at the core of a people who kill their own young spreads outward. People who are carrying that burden of guilt are not motivated to save for the future, not motivated to deal with reality, not even motivated to defend themselves from those who would massacre them.

We’re very, very sick as a people. And only a return to faith can save us — from ANY of these evils and threats.

Newt, Sarah, Allen West, Huckabee, Santorum, Pence (I know, I know), are all people of faith. Whether or not any particular one of them would make a good president remains to be determined. But at least they are grounded in REALITY. And that’s a start.

        • bus2dc

Correct, I don’t see Huck “as a hawk” :) and Newt is, although fiercely outspoken at times, a flip-flopper; you have to hear TONS of his commentaries and follow him around to catch those “WHAT??” moments, but they ARE there, and frequent. I don’t trust him, and I most CERTAINLY don’t trust Romney. I can’t believe folks still can’t see pasty the smooth talk and the even-smoother hair.

Wherefore ART thou, Romeo??? I’d welcome the Hunchback of Notre Dame if he would rid this country of ISLAM. We can NOT live side by side, nor can they be assimilated. Sharia law is a foreign, BARBARIC law based on a “religion”, we would be reduced to cavemen beating women and Christians once again being thrown to the lions.

You are correct again, the myth of the “moderate” Muslim is going to do us in — just because they are not overtly killing their daughters or vowing to behead us in streets of blood doesn’t mean they’re just not smart enough to be — QUIET. Do you see any of them actively opposing the radicals? ANY?

Paul Ryan can out-talk and out-argue Obama anytime. I’ve been wishing he’d run for a higher position since ’07. I don’t know where he stands on overtly fighting radical Islam, but he’s brilliant, sharp AND tough.

Christie IS milk-toast on nearly everything BUT the unions: he refused to back the Obamacare repeal, he refuses to do anything to control illegal immigration in NJ and supports amnesty (!), he has supported COAH (while pretending not to), supports the “eminent domain” travesty (govt taking private land away from owners) — I’d suggest you take a look at the numerous press articles on him from way before the primaries to now. We knew what we were getting because we needed it: an “R” instead of a “D” — but a liberal nonetheless.

I’ve just been reading an illuminating and quite alarming report by the Center for Religious Freedom, Saudi Publications on Hate Ideology Invade American Mosques.

They found that the vast majority of publications offered to mosque-goers in most mosques in America are provided by either the Saudi government or by religious entities or publishing houses that are completely controlled by the Saudi government. The Saudi government, as you probably know, is completely controlled by the extreme Wahhabi sect, and has been exporting its extreme, shockingly hateful ideology all over the world.

The upshot is that American Muslims are indoctrinated with this Saudi hate ideology, which includes commands to never befriend a Christian or Jew or any other non-Muslim unless it is for purposes of converting him, or in order to use him in some way to advance Islam. American Muslims are commanded to hate the infidel and work to overthrow him — if they don’t do this, then they are considered as bad as an infidel themselves — and we know what the penalty for that is.

Go the link, and at least read the foreword and introduction. Very eye-opening. I was especially interested to learn how and why the Saudis got so completely taken over by Wahhabism. There were parts of that story I didn’t know.

          • bus2dc

I knew what Wahhabism is, but not the background history…..I do know even the “moderates” are ordered to deceive the infidel, and fool us until they can act .

…I’m willing to give Newt a second look.

Despite many things grassroots conservatives dislike about him, several points are undeniable:

    1) His book To Save America is the only game in town as far as a grand strategy to restore the US and defeat the left. No other candidate “gets it” like he does. His love for America is not in question.

    2) He’s a genius and a polymath. When they say “the smartest guy in the room” it is not an exaggeration. Watching him run circles around journolists (who need an extra 25 IQ points to go toe-to-toe with him) is a pleasure, and in this day and age probably a necessity if major changes are to be successfully made.

    3) He has been chastened by the Tea Party movement. Before we convict him too harshly, let’s remember that a personage as noted as Ben Franklin flip-flopped on the whole American revolution thingy as well.

One can say he is unelectable due to personal baggage. However, if things get as bad as I expect, people will be desperate for competent, smart leadership, and may overlook it,

    • http://westforwestwing2012.com heartlander

They overlooked Bill Ayers; Jeremiah Wright; Tony Rezko; bopping around in Pakistan when Americans couldn’t go there; heavy marijuana and cocaine use; homosexual activity; violating the Logan Act by trying to cut a deal with the Iraqis in the summer of 2008; stubborn, absolute refusal to disclose ANY personal records, and collaboration by everyone from Occidental College to the Illinois Senate in either locking them up or making them disappear…

They overlooked his statement that he wanted to abolish missile testing and weapons maintenance as well as oppose any and all missile shield systems; his statement that the Constitution and the Supreme Court were wrong to not actively re-distribute income; “spread the wealth around”; shooting the finger at Hillary and at McCain; calling for a “civilian” security force 9read: presidential goon squads) that would be as well-funded as the military; calling half the country a bunch of “bitter clingers”; dissing his own grandmother, who raised him; admitting that he’d hung out with Marxists, black nationalists, radical feminists and other loons his entire life, and that he wanted to “fundamentally transform” America…

They overlooked his ACORN and SEIU goon squads; his $800,000 contribution to ACORN’s Project Vote; his committing gross illegalities in campaign finance, such as accepting millions in foreign donations, including from Hamas members; and deliberately disabling the credit card verification functions on his campaign website so that anonymous contributors in unknown places could make multiple small contributions totalling up to amounts exceeding the legal limit; etc., etc., etc.

The New Jersey that “knew” did not support or vote for Christie in the primary run. The TRULY conservative “prizefighter” Steve Lonegan SHOULD have won and have become the Governor. Christie has always been known to be a classic RINO, and clawed his way to a win by literally taking the words out of Lonegan’s mouth every step of the way. So while being a radical Muslim empathizer is nauseating and worse than we expected, it is no surprise. “We” already know that Chris will do one thing with one hand and quite another thing with the other. Sound like our president? Christie is also a not infrequent guest of the White House, including, I believe, being the only R-Gov invited and attending the big shindig for China’s Hu last week. But I digress.

Not only are politicians not addressing the stealth jihad taking place under our noses, but they are aiding it in clear instances like this one. This story has been given an enormous amt of coverage (by comparison with the usual near-blackout on anything with the M-word) and yet so many here still hadn’t even heard of it. Yes, thank GOD (or the trees, or whatever you make your higher power) for the likes of Pamela Gellar, Robert Spencer, Brigitte Gabriel and all the rest of the fearless truth-tellers who see what very few of us are even willing to LOOK at, much less fight in the open, where “fatwas” are now placed on the heads of critics of Islam and sharia law with increasing, alarming speed.

Perhaps Christie has opened his window and has seen the Muslim Brotherhood coming just up the street. One can’t blame him for being terrified and trying to bargain with the devil to protect himself and his family? Oh yes we can, because we have put him in charge of our state, our homes, and ultimately our own families once those radicals have gained enough footholds in our country — due to all the politicians like him and worse — to destroy us ALL equally.

America’s fuse has now officially been lit in Egypt, and we have no idea how long or short it is. Take a long look at that footage. Then stick your head out the window — NJ and everyone — and put on your REAL glasses for once, not the rosy ones.

You are turning into a one-note Johnny, heartlander. All roads seem to lead to Allen West. Is your title supposed to be serious? Are you honestly proposing that until Allen West entered public life, NOBODY (except Professor Newt, of all people) was standing up to Islamism?

    Really?

Hey, I like the guy too. But be serious. And by the way, other than in the title, the name of Allen West never appeared again, whereas the name “Christie “, which does not appear in the title, appears 25 times in the text. It’s your diary, title it whatever you want to. But over the long haul, this Amway strategy ain’t going to deliver the results you would like.

    • http://westforwestwing2012.com heartlander

I realized that I had mistitled it shortly after I posted it — and then it was too late.

But about the “one-note heartlander” — seriously? Did you not read any of my comments above? I came right out and explicitly said I have doubts about West, that the only way I see him even being considered for pres. in 2012 is if there’s another 9/11-magnitude terror attack before then — which I obviously do NOT want — and that the only reason I keep my West to the West Wing blog going is that I want to raise awareness about creeping shari’a in our country, and the craven toadying of too many people IN BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES to the Islamists at home and abroad.

I’m not sure where you get “all roads lead to Allen West” out of that. I think you’re being unfair. Please read my comments earlier in the thread.

And if my view are so noxious, then how come this piece has been in the “Recommended Diaries” for three days now?

As to your second question, my answer is, sadly, yes, pretty much. Except for Newt and Allen West, I really don’t see any AMERICAN POLITICIANS standing up vocally and forcefully against Islam. If anything, they bend over backwards to accommodate “shariah-complaint finance,” the Ground Zero Mosque, CAIR and various other forms of “creeping shariah.”

I can understand their reluctance to publicly oppose shariah — just look at the continual hell Geert Wilders has to go through — but that doesn’t change the fact that our “leaders” are NOT, in fact, speaking out. And, death threats or not, it is their CIVIC DUTY to do so — not least of all, because they need to be informing the American public of the facts.

      • E Pluribus Unum

I will not say that I’m never a jerk — the evidence is right out there in public in the RedState archives. I am going to say I guess I got you crossed up with a couple of people here who do seem to operate by the premise of “all roads lead to Allen West for President”, which I have viewed with growing annoyance.

But I’ve had a chance to check up on your history. I apologize for jumping all over you and accusing you with wildly false claim.s (while still holding that the4 diary DID in fact need a title that had some bearing on the content – but you conceded as much already).

You are aces with me, kid. I hope you’ll forgive me.

I found this clip on media matters when I bounced over there checking out various reports onthe planned parenthood sex trafficking story.

In this video he schools Howard Dean on the difference between ethnicity and multi culturalism.

America is multi ethnic, not multicultural. People come here for the American culture while retaining their ethnicity. A great point. This is why America works and other multicultural countries don’t.

Newt also goes on to talk about how centralized government just doesn’t work well. Glad to see the tea party is influencing more and more politicals! The comments to this are hilarious and frightening at the same time. Media matters zombies beg for centralized govt to do everything for them.

Wow, just reading a few comments on any story at media matters is pretty shocking. Delusional people brainwashed by the propaganda media. ( I will not try to call them lame stream media any more as they have an agenda and are intentional.)

  • Common_Cents

I love all the candidate handicapping, predictions and vetting(bashing) here but when you look at the larger picture there is a lesson. We are missing the forest looking for a good tree.

Nobody will save us from ourselves. We are dangerously moving closer into falling into desperation, looking for a leader which could lead us. That could very well end up with us getting our version of Barry.

Leaders don’t create movements, Movements inspire new leaders and help toughen up the current squishes.

The tea party, and getting involved is the only solution. It’ll inspire new leaders and also keep current politicians much more in line.

Trickle down politics are for losers. Bottom up transformation is a solid base for real positive improvements.

If we keep doing the ground level work, we’ll inspire new real leaders and also keep the career chameleon politicians becoming more conservative every day.

Most politicians are reactionary, not proactive. They will mirror what those who are most active want. That could be K street lobbyists or it could be the tea party Americans. It’s our choice.

Read everything ColdWarrior has written. It is truly the only way.

That is why the midterm election was so encouraging. It was free from all our presidential-year idiocy, and the Tea Parties had a HUGE influence in getting a whole slew of new, mostly young, solid conservative people elected to “the people’s House!”
