http://www.breitbart.tv/congressman-assaults-student-on-washington-sidewalk/

Well overdue for Etheridge to leave the House and this video should be ammunition enough.

Renee Ellmers is the Republican candidate for Bob Etheridge’s seat in US House District 2. Her webpage is:

How hard wawould it have been for the student to state his name and collage when asked?

Once encountered, the Congressman simply asked; Who are you?

At that point the student should have given the information.

If it was me, I would give my credentials.
Hi. Im gekster from Red State University, and I would like to ask…

The student simple refused to give his name and school .

What would the video look like if the student answered the first question the Congressman asked. What might have changed in the video.
Maybe it would be the Congressman standing for a second and answering questions.

It could have been that easy,
maybe the student was baiting him.
but maybe this video is what the student wanted.

No excusses for the behavior of the Congressman, no way at all.
But with all the nut jobs out there,
I would want to see if your willing to identify yourself first.

You may be a Tea Partier.

…because that guy didn’t wait for an answer before putting his hands on the dirty commoner that dared to ask the Congressman a question.

      • gekster

        and you are quite right.
He could have waited a lot longer for the answer before going off.
The student still could have given his name.
It just stuck out to me how he wouldn’t give his name to the congressman.

What if someone assaulted your kid for not giving their name? You are making excuses for a freaking congressman laying his hands on someone. It should be expected and reasonable for congress t be approached by all types of media.

            Read my top comment.
“No excusses for the behavior of the Congressman, no way at all.”

What I am trying to point out that if said student had given his name at anytime during this mugging, it might have difused the situaton.

…and you should identify yourself in these, if you can. But if this guy is deranged enough to instantly fly off the handle and physically assault a guy asking him a question, then he’s deranged enough to use his office to make the questioner’s life miserable.

No, Etheridge does not have a right to know who these people are. Nothing prevented him from continuing on his way without saying a word.

      • gekster

One would think that common courtesy,
and being respectfull to a sitting Congessman,
that when asked for your name,
you would give it to him.

And yes, he could have kept on walking.

        • HerbC

Yes, I’m sure it would have been appropriate to show Etheridge
the same level of respect he shows us commoners.
Nothing says respect like grabbing a guys wrist and then proceeding to horsecollar them.

          • gekster

and I give up after this,
but would the horsecollar and wrist grab have happened if he just gave his name. I ask why the refusal on the students part.
And the congressman was wrong for his reaction to seeming nothing.

In one second? The guy asked, then hit him without giving him a chance to respond. I wouldn’t have given him any information after that. And if he had given him a chance to answer and he hadn’t, his only choice was to continue walking.

One last thing. He finally did say he was a student. That’s all the information the guy needed.

If he were a man, he wouldn’t have been such a pussy-cat. The Congressman, that is.

That’s what “if ” is worth in this case.

Accepting everything else that’s been mentioned at face value, the Democrat Congressman had the same choice every other public figure has when a camera and microphone walks up to him on the street. He could have said either nothing or “No comment,” and walk away. No need to grab the student (that makes it battery in most places), no need to do anything. Just walk away. Or he could have civilly answered the question, introduced himself (that will almost invariably get a name in return), or had plenty of other non-aggressive, LEGAL responses.

(John Belushi being channeled here) But noooooooo! He thought just long enough to decide, “This kid is smaller than me. He won’t dare defend himself against a Congressman. I’ll make him look like a fool and he won’t bother anybody else.” But as it turned out, Etheridge was the fool after all.

If his opponent has anything on the ball, she’ll use this to great advantage.

Or as my sig line points out…..

Well Mr. Etheridge we will be the students that file assault charges unless you RESIGN your seat now.
