Hutchison Implies Fellow Republicans Are Anti-Troops

Earlier today, Erick pointed out that Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, despite having promised to stay and “fight” against healthcare in Washington while campaigning for Texas Governor (and in so doing, jamming up her fellow Republican candidates in Texas while they wait for her to supposedly resign in March), refused to support her fellow Republicans in an important cloture vote.

Yet now, in an “I was for the filibuster before I was against it” moment reminiscent of John Kerry, Senator Hutchison put out a statement (below in its entirety) that basically implies that her fellow Republican Senators are somehow against the troops. Given that we all know this to be false – is this a case of Senator Hutchison wanting her cake and eating it too? Nooo… it couldn’t be.

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Following U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison’s vote in favor of the Department of Defense Appropriations bill that funds American troops on the battlefields in Afghanistan and Iraq defending our nation against jihadist terrorists, Hutchison Communications Director Jeff Sadosky release the following statement:

“Once the Democrats had broken the Republican filibuster, which Senator Hutchison supported, she voted in support of our troops who are fighting a war against terrorism,” said Jeff Sadosky, Communications Director for U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Keep in mind, 33 fellow Republicans voted AGAINST cloture, including Sen. Thad Cochran, the Ranking Republican on Appropriations (and the bill’s co-author!), with 4 Republicans not voting. Senator Hutchison was joined only by the entire Democrat caucus, and – hold on – you’ll NEVER guess… Senators Snowe and Collins.

They only voted yes once Kay Barely sold her soul.

republicans. Just keep repeating: Never trust a Diablo.

She should be shunned, and if the people of Texas have any sense left, kicked to the curb permanently.

She is not only a Liar, She is a Traitor. In her Campaign, she is stated that she Created the National Ambert Alert, That is a LIE, it was started as Ohio Alert and teken up by the Law Enforcement Agencies in Ft. Worth and Dalls that started the Texas Amber Alet. We can also give Johm Walsh, Most Wanted show for making it National because of his Son being Abducted and Murdered. As far as the Texas Border Patrol, she also did NOT have anything to do with that. Thank GOD for Gov. Rick Perry for doing this. As far as her fighting Obama over the Healthcare, She Did NOT, that was another Lie. She is as Evil asnd Corrupt as the Rest of OUR Government. PLEASE, Keep her in Washington with the rest of the Trash…………

I mean if she wanted to be Governor as badly as Rick Perry wants to keep doing the job, she’d work up a BIT of a sweat to try to act conservative once in a while.

We really really don’t want her as governor here in Texas.

I don’t think this was a stab in the back of the GOP so much as it is a reflection of KBH’s low opinion of voters. It might be that she feels that with the filibuster dead, she had to vote for the Defense Bill to show she ‘supports the troops.’ It could be that she doesn’t think we Texans are sophisticated enough to understand political maneuvering against the Health Care Bill.

Either way its passed time she was removed from office.

…about passing the defense appropriations bill.

I mean, yes, I understand it’s part of the “game” of stalling out the health care bill, but once that game’s over (as it was once Byrd was wheeled in to cast vote number 60), what exactly was there for her to gain by voting against it? A slow golf clap from venues such as this one that are already firmly against her run for governor?

The defense industry is kinda important down here in Texas, y’know? Anyone thinking Perry will be able make hay out of this specific vote (as was commented in another thread) are sorely mistaken in my view.

And while Hutchison may be neither my favorite Texas senator nor my choice for governor, comparing her unfavorably to the duo from Maine crosses the line into gratuitousness in my opinion. You’re not going to see Hutchison bandied about as a potential flipper on Obamacare itself, which is more than you can say for either of them.

      Too bad KBH sold out.

Of course, the Defense Bill is very important. You won’t find many (if any) here disagree.

So why the cheap shot snide comment from KBH?
Most people who bleat out such nonsense are not secure in their own actions and trying to cover up something. Texas voters are too smart for such nonsense (I work with a few).

“continuing resolution” you should make an effort. We’re 3 months into the new fiscal year without a budget, how do you think the military and defense industry is operating right now?

  • http://www.veronicaestrada.com/ Veronica Estrada

she thinks the voters down here are unsophisticated and aren’t following the stall-tactics.

Perry’s gonna hand her back her ass on a plate, I can guarantee you.

    Dumb, dumb, dumb!!

    I’m stupidfied.

    • nessa

…the conservative base is either still asleep or is only a myth. She feels she is safe with the moderate squishy republicans, like the ones she knows so well in DC.

Guess what? She thinks you’re a chupacabra!

      • http://www.veronicaestrada.com/ Veronica Estrada

        agreed, nessa.

she either thinks a.) the teapartiers that have gathered at the capitol and the parking lot of randall’s are unimformed, redneck zealots, asleep at the wheel or b.) conservatives who put their money where there mouth is -don’t inclued the teapartiers- and will be loyal and consider her many, many years at the senate.

she needs to go. her career is over, or should be over.

what we need is mercenary congressmen who go in, get the job done & don’t compromise to keep their seat until they die.

        I am embarrassed for Texas.

I will speak against her to anyone who will listen. she screwed the conservative base.

and aren’t (almost) worth bothering to attempt to reach. (2008 Issues: Foreign Policy) The Liberals/Democrats as a whole (save Lieberman, the one thing he is good for/on) are always ANTI while Republicans (save a few examples, yes we are not monolithic) are PRO Military.

(IraqSOFA) – Iraqi SOFA (TV next?)
(DSurrender) – Surrender Doctrine (Democrats ALWAYS cut/weaken U.S.Defense) and Criminalizing Acts Of War (Terrorism)

I don’t see here winning the Texas GOP primary for governor against RIck Perry. She said she’d resign from the Senate after the primary, win or lose.

    Dick Cheney endorsed this woman??

If she changes her mind and doesn’t resign, I’d sure like to run against her in the next GOP primary.

    • Richard Mullins

Her views on issues in Texas aren’t Conservative but are Moderate. She’s Pro-Choice, Pro Robin Hood(the failed money sharing scam that Ann Richards had in 1993) and I’m sure there are many other things I have against her. She seems like she never left LaMarque. I think that we need better than her.

  • RedBeard

She acts like a Democrat, in the sense that she hopes her constituents are gullible enough to buy this ridiculous spin.

  • E Pluribus Unum

    No, neither could I.

  • novimir

    KBH did the right thing.

Suppose debate wasn’t closed. Just how long did you have in mind for defunding our troops? A day, a week, a month? What are we playing at here? No good exit strategy was put forth for holding up the funding and we look truly cynical in voting “for” on the final vote.

Makes a great “flip flopper ad”.

  • obiwan6

She recently used the troops as an excuse for supporting the hate crimes bill otherwise regarded as death to free speech. I am looking serious at Medina.

  • jennifer_a

Absolutely! She has said she is not and does not plan to be a career politician. I met her before she announced her candidacy, and I know she is sincere. She is for nullification and interposition. We are likely to have to use this to circumvent Obamacare.

Please, I urge you to take a look at her website.

I think that we need that her to run against David Dewhurst for now. I think that strong Conservative as Lt Governor and then later on Governor. I just don’t want Carol Keeton Etc… all over again.

P.S. If you can be sure that she’s like Kevin Wolff, then I might consider a vote for her. BTW, where do she live?
