Interesting developement in NE-SEN

Not only did we get a visit by Romney in Omaha today, but another endorsement in the race.

While this endorsement will mean more locally than nationally, when your state only has three Congressional Reprensentatives, it becomes a big deal when a Congressman makes an endorsement in the primary for the Senate race.  Congressman Fortenberry, NE-1, endorsed Deb Fischer this afternoon in the Republican primary.  Makes for a nice pair of late endorsements for Deb, between Sarah Palin and Jeff Fortenberry.  Will certainly be an interesting five days before the primary next Tuesday.  Should be interesting to see if any of the other state elected officials decide to endorse.

In other news from Nebraska, hatchet man Kerrey decided to endorse same-sex marriage today.  This could easily seal his doom in the fall.  Nebraska may be ‘populist’ at times, but it’s very socially conservative on the whole.  I have a feeling that announcement is not going to play well here in the fall.

Can’t wait for next Tuesday, to see the end of what has been a very interesting primary season.

Wow. Just… wow.

There are certain things that stand out at you in your life.  Those moments when you just sit back… and go… wow.

I love the information that RedState puts out, and it’s always refreshing to hear this place talked about on the shows I listen to (Sean Hannity today, for example).  The piece out of the WSJ, talking about the Labor Department limiting private internship opportunities hit me today a tad, as just the outright assault on our free enterprise system here.

But that’s not the moment I’m really aiming at.  I follow many different pages and causes on Facebook.  There are many that use that site to great effect.  One that I joined dealt with supporting Tim Tebow’s Super Bowl ad, and has been a great source of information about the pro-life movement.  So today comes across my Facebook feed a note from them about an article out from LifeNews.com titled ‘Latest Birth Stats Show US Experiencing Underpopulation due to Abortion.’  That stood out by itself, and I took a look at the article, and I don’t think the results should shock anyone.  That wasn’t the ‘WOW’ moment for me.

This was.  In the thread for the group following the article, someone listed a link that talked about opening their eyes.  I don’t usually follow many links, due to spam and hackers, but this one just caught my eye.  I’d say it was one of those moments where God sent me a message through my life that said ‘You need to take notice of this.’ The site address was www.demographicbomb.com.  It’s corresponding site is www.demographicwinter.com.  When I get the time to show my wife, and can spare the cash to order it, I will.  The trailers were enough.  They’re both about 4 minutes in length… and have enough that it should scare anybody that’s not aware of the situation.  I think they tell it better than I do, so I’ll just say this:  It has to do with world (not just US) population, low fertility rates, and the potential for shrinking population worldwide over the next century.

I didn’t need further proof that we’re fighting the good fight.  But this (and I know some will say ‘well, duh, that was obvious’, but I’m positive others will see it in the same light I did, as ‘WOW, I never even thought in those terms’) just gave it that oh WOW factor, and will give you yet another clear understanding as to the evil being perpetrated, and the reason this fight we fight is so important.

Thanks folks, take a look, let me know what your thoughts are, and I look forward to the time when I get this, and watch it.

Idlings from a Conservative Christian

There have been a few things that have got me thinking here in the last couple of weeks, and I’d like to share the thoughts with those here at RedState.

First, I want to start off by saying that I’m not someone that has a tendency to believe every crackpot theory out there.  (I don’t believe in either birferism or truferism… I think they both get taken too far by the believers, and ultimately don’t lead anywhere good.)  And you’re thinking, ‘sure, just saying that to butter me up, so that when ‘crackpot’ hits my head, you’ve got a way out.’  Maybe… just maybe.  :D

I only say that so you know who I am.  I grew up in Nebraska, spent the majority of my adult years here, with a 2 year stint in Kansas for law school (yes, sadly, I knew of Phelps and WBC before most Americans had any inkling.. *sigh*), and I learned my Conservative values from small-town folks and from Ronald Reagan, my political idol.

I have held political positions (if you can call them that) in the various educational institutions that I received degrees from.  I have taken CW’s message to heart, and have already sent off one email to find out how to become a Precinct Committeeman here.

I even knew, when Moe put it out there, what the Society for Creative Anachronism was.  Had several friends that participated pretty heavily in my college days, and I had the good fortune to attend a couple different events.

I play video games, I am a WoW’er, I enjoy many different sports (primarily college football and NASCAR – go Huskers, and go Ryan Newman!), practice out of my own real estate law firm, and have a beautiful wife and 2 of the funniest, best kids I could have asked the Good Lord for.

Now, to the topic of the title, now that I’ve given you a little bit of a rundown.  I am, first and foremost in my life, a Christian.  I am a United Methodist, but don’t agree with many of the church teachings.  But one of the great things about the Methodist church is that it focuses more around the local church, rather than central doctrine.  I am a strong believer in the ten commandments, in what is sin, and boldly stating my love for God and Christ.  I am a very strong believer in love thy God with all thy heart, soul and mind, and also in love thy neighbor as thyself.  I am also a strong believer in making sure people understand what the Bible says, and what it deems as sin, and helping those who have sinned to not do so again.  Because of these things, I’m a fiscal and social Conservative.  I am a member of the church choir, we attend on a weekly basis, practice Christianity in the home, and we have a family prayer time before bedtime.  I am also a studier of Revelation, and have read the entire Left Behind series.  I am an adherent to most of the analysis of Tim LaHaye, and have read many different books, not just his, on Revelation, and how the prophecies are interpreted.  Got into a brief, but good discussion with my head pastor over this, and his beliefs from Revelation, which are different.

There’s a fantastic album that the publishers of the Left Behind series put out, called ‘People Get Ready’.  All the songs are about the second coming of Christ.  There’s one in there that is especially apt to my way of thinking about a few things I’ve seen here recently.  The Impressions have a song called, appropriately enough, ‘People Get Ready’, that is on the album.  For anyone that’s a fan of singing quartet/group music from the 50s and 60s, that’s the style of this song.  ’People Get Ready, there’s a train a comin’…’

There have been articles written (and I saw one posted by a group I’m a fan of on Facebook today, and I really like the group) that talked about one specific section of the Reconciliation package.  Specifically the part about Class II medical devices.  The article goes into analysis of what I’ll term as ‘biochips’, though the article had a more technical term.  I’m not a believer that these being implanted would be the ‘Mark of the Beast’, and that’s not what this is about.  To be plain, I think the Mark will be much plainer than that.  I think it will be a very obvious symbol.

No, what I really want to get across, what intrigues me, and frightens me a tad as well, is the whole piece with Israel.  My thought, when I originally heard about it, was that we couldn’t be that naive, to push away our only true ally like that.  I should absolutely KNOW better than that by now.  What caused me even more concern was when I heard about the diversion of military resources.  That’s also when many different theories on what kind of game Obama was playing with Israel.

If things continue, and I think there’s a good chance they could, down this road, my fear is that of everybody’s:  that Iran will attack Israel, and attempt to wipe her off the face of the Earth.  Make no mistake, I don’t think that CAN happen.  Not that they wouldn’t try.  But with the times we’re in, I’m a strong believer that SOMETHING will happen with Israel.  It’ll be a strong signal.  That’s not to say we’ll still have any idea how long it’ll be before Christ returns, but that it’ll be a signal that it’s close.  That something will likely be in the way of an attack, and an attack hard enough that the only thing that CAN save them is God’s intervention.

Again, I’m not a crackpot or loon, nor do I play one on TV or radio.  :D  I’m just trying to call this as it seems to come to me.  In some ways… it felt like my eyes and mind were open to an idea that I just hadn’t seen before.

Anyhow… it comes down to the same message many have said, in different ways, and on different subjects… ‘Keep your eyes open, and be aware and wary.  Because… there’s a train a-comin’…’  :)  Thanks for listening, my friends, and God bless!

Thought processes from Huskerland

I type this today knowing the following:  (As we all do, but bear with me)

A. The attempt to begin the socialization of health care in this country passed narrowly, on a purely partisan vote to pass it.

B.  Four of five that this State has sent to Washington understand the horrors of this legislation, and worked to stop it, with their votes and their efforts behind the scenes.

C.  One was the deciding vote in passing this travesty on the Senate side, and will be marginalized and ousted in the next election.  If we can get a bill passed to impeach our elected representatives on the national level, maybe earlier.

D.  We move forward.  We elect the right people, and support the right people when they do good.

E.  Probably most importantly, I follow two rules in doing all of this:  1.  I follow God’s commandments in doing all of the above.  I don’t stoop to their level, I make sure that I’m honest and sincere in my beliefs, and I help people to understand who the candidates are that I support.  2.  In doing so… I follow the great quote from Roadhouse:  ’You’re nice… until it’s time NOT to be nice.’  We aren’t them.  So let’s not play their game.  We play this game on our terms.  It’s the way Conservatives have always played, but we make the Republican party us.  We make sure Republicans know that they play the game our way, that it’s our stage, our time, or they can go home.  We don’t need the squishes to succeed.  We need people willing to stand for values, for principles, for us.  Period.

I am a Christian first and foremost, an American second, and a VERY proud Nebraskan third.  But none is less than the other.  Any attack on our people will be dealt with.  But on OUR terms.  Not theirs.  We don’t the deception, we don’t play the dirty game, and we don’t compromise our values to get there.

Oh… and on a totally unrelated note… the

Two bills to pass Health Care, through reconciliation?

On Laura Ingraham this morning, they had the gentleman on from EWTN (can’t remember his name, but he comes on the show on a regular basis to discuss Washington politics, and I think he’s the gentleman that hosts the political show on that network), and he reported that evidently reports are leaking out from behind the scenes of what the Dems want to do to TRY and get health care passed.

The idea seems so simple.  And the fact that the atmosphere has been amongst many that the bill is dead would give them the perfect chance for shenanigans.  (And I’m sure they’re counting on catching people unaware.)  But the plan basically is this:  Have the House pass the Senate bill.  Then, through reconciliation, craft what was termed as a ‘fix-it’ bill, for both sides to pass that would only need a majority.

If this even has partial legs, it’s something we want to be aware of, and wary of.  Some of you (heck, many of you) may already be aware of this.  And perhaps someone else brought this out, and I missed it.  But I just wanted to throw this out there.  I know it causes me enough concern that even though Backdoor Ben has said he wouldn’t use reconciliation… I wouldn’t put it past him at this point.  And even if he doesn’t, there are others that might.  We need to nip this now, before it gets stronger.

Thanks for listening, folks!
