Newtown, gun regulations, sexy employees and the folly of “doing something”

Two very different news stories stood out for me recently. The first was the story of the killing of 26 innocent women and children at the school in Connecticut. The other was a story out of Iowa where a panel of judges said that a dentist could fire his assistant for being too attractive. At first blush the two stories couldn’t be more different. Mitt Romney should leverage his tax records to re-educate Americans on the prosperity capitalism can engender.
By: imperfectamerica (Diary) | August 6th at 06:38 AM |
For months we’ve heard calls from Democrats for Mitt Romney to release his tax records. Last week Harry Reid even claimed he had it from “a number of people” had told him that Mitt Romney had not paid his taxes for a decade and demanded he release them. I’d like to suggest Mitt Romney actually go ahead and release his tax records. Much like pulling | Read More »
Is an election a gift for a job well done or a choice about the country’s future?
By: imperfectamerica (Diary) | July 9th at 06:44 AM |
Throughout any given day I normally catch bits and pieces of three or four different talk radio shows during the day. From Rush to Boortz to Hannity to Michael Medved and an occasional Mark Levin peppered in. All are brilliant with their own styles, but sometimes they overlap. At some point last week most of them invited listeners to call in and explain why they | Read More »
Barack Obama Jumps the Shark and Lands on the Wedding Cake
By: imperfectamerica (Diary) | June 25th at 08:05 AM |
President Obama has jumped the shark. The phrase “Jumping the Shark” dates back to 1977 when the cast of the popular television show Happy Days took a trip out to Los Angeles and The Fonz, played by Henry Winkler, jumped over a shark cage while waterskiing. The original use indicated when a TV program had run out of creative and compelling storylines and began to | Read More »
Barack Spicoli Obama exposes the fallacy of Affirmative Action
By: imperfectamerica (Diary) | June 18th at 06:24 AM |
According to Wikipedia, affirmative action began in 1961 when JFK signed Executive Order 10925 which required federal agencies “take affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed and that employees are treated during employment without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin”. For the subsequent half century the United States has been debating in universities, workplaces and ultimately in the courts about what | Read More »
If Obama can claim credit for killing bin Laden a year ago, why can’t he take credit for the economy today?
By: imperfectamerica (Diary) | May 7th at 08:58 AM |
As President Obama and his administration are constantly telling us, the horrible economy is not his fault because he inherited the “Worst recession since the Great Depression”. One can certainly make that argument. You just can’t get it to stick. If you could however, what you’d basically be saying is that that 3 ½ years after taking office the President of the United States is | Read More »
The left’s 40% blue core… insanity, stupidity or religion?
By: imperfectamerica (Diary) | September 19th at 06:26 AM |
It’s still a year out from the election, but Rasmussen’s most recent poll makes one start to wonder. It shows President Obama at 46% of the vote against GOP frontrunner Rick Perry’s 39%. That was a flip from the previous week’s Obama 41% vs. Perry’s 44%. The Perry part of that poll is not really of consequence. President Obama tends to perform about the same | Read More »
Will Republicans have the stones to put Uncle Sam in the unemployment line?
By: imperfectamerica (Diary) | August 16th at 08:36 PM |
The federal government is big, unwieldy and incompetent. Is there something about large organizations that by definition make them incapable of operating effectively and efficiently? No. Wal-Mart is the largest private employer in the United States and one of the largest in the world. It employs 1.8 million Americans and another quarter of a million people in countries from China to Argentina to the United | Read More »
