Congressman Massa (D-NY) and Treason

Democrats, as usual, flunk Constitution 101 and practice projection

The United States Constitution gives a good working definition, and the starting point of a good legal definition, of treason :

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.

In practice, treason is committed when a United States citizen either actively engages in war against the United States, or materially supports enemies of the United States. It is a very serious offense - not only is it punishable by death, it is one of the most vile insults that can be made against a citizen.

The topic attaining such gravity, it should go without saying that if a Congressman charges publicly that a Senator has committed treason, then he (a) better be right, and (b) better have the evidence in hand to back it up.

Congressman Eric Massa (D-NY) has accused Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) of treason.

Why did he make such a charge? Did Grassley…..

Obama at Waterloo

Image descriptionWe have the power to stop Barack Obama on healthcare. We have the power to shut him down.

Already, Democrats are recognizing the measure is coming apart at the seams. Nancy says she has the votes, but the markup of the bill in committee keeps getting cancelled.

Tonight, Barack Obama goes on television to complain, beg, and cajole the American people to commit themselves to a system that will decrease our life expectancy, decrease the quality of our healthcare, and increase our deficit to even higher levels than Obama has already caused.

As a distraction, Obama is slugging Jim DeMint for calling the healthcare debate Obama’s “Waterloo.” The problem is, Democrats are admitting to Republicans that Obama does recognize it is his Waterloo moment.

Grassley said he spoke with a Democratic House member last week who shared Obama’s bleak reaction during a private meeting to reports that some factions of House Democrats were lining up to stall or even take down the overhaul unless leaders made major changes.

“Let’s just lay everything on the table,” Grassley said. “A Democrat congressman last week told me after a conversation with the president that the president had trouble in the House of Representatives, and it wasn’t going to pass if there weren’t some changes made … and the president says, ‘You’re going to destroy my presidency.’ “

The question now, for people like Charles Grassley, is why even bother? Let’s crush the Democrats on this issue.

Let us recap the Gerald Walpin situation.

We can begin with this video, which goes over the basic points:

Short version: Walpin was investigating Obama crony’s involvement in an AmeriCorps-related scandal involving misappropriation of funding. Case was settled, to the mild detriment of crony*. Walpin disagreed with settlement. Complaint made against him. So far, this is all he-said, he-said.

Kathleen Sebelius (Democrat-Kansas) Has a Tax Problem

It was a given, really, that this would be the case, seeing that she is an Obaminee

Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, the former trial lawyer lobbyist who looked out for the interest group while in the state’s highest office — even though doing so meant preventing decreased costs and increased access to care within her own state’s health care system — has a tax problem.

According to this letter from Sebelius to Senators Max Baucus (D-MT) and Charles Grassley (R-IA), the chairman and ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, respectively, the Kansas Democrat and her husband hired a CPA to “conduct a thorough review” of their tax returns for 2005, 2006, and 2007 “in preparation for [her] confirmation process as the nominee for Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.”

While conducting his review, the CPA found that the Sebeliuses owed $7,040 in federal taxes, which was paid along with $848 in interest.
