Club for Growth Endorses Marco Rubio

Funny. A lot of people thought the Club for Growth had endorsed Marco Rubio.

They had not . . . at least until today.

It is now certain that Charlie Crist will get a run for his money in Florida. The Club for Growth is today announcing its endorsement of Marco Rubio in the Florida Senate race.

They’ll bundle a lot of money for Marco making this an extremely competitive primary. Charlie Crist’s no good, rotten, very awful week just keeps getting worse.

“The Club for Growth PAC has spent months studying this race, and we have concluded that either Charlie Crist or Marco Rubio would be heavily favored to win next November against likely Democratic nominee Kendrick Meek,” Chris Chocola, President of the Club for Growth, said. “The only question now is what kind of Republican will Florida send to Washington next year: a pro-growth Republican with a record of fiscal conservatism or a big-government Republican with a record of tax increases?”

Nice.

Mike Huckabee Won’t Endorse Hoffman. I Know Why.

I wish I did not know. This is so disappointing.

2 Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher,
vanity of vanities! All is vanity.
3 What does man gain by all the toil
at which he toils under the sun?
4 A generation goes, and a generation comes,
but the earth remains forever.
5 The sun rises, and the sun goes down,
and hastens to the place where it rises.
6 The wind blows to the south
and goes around to the north;
around and around goes the wind,
and on its circuits the wind returns.
7 All streams run to the sea,
but the sea is not full;
to the place where the streams flow,
there they flow again.
8 All things are full of weariness;
a man cannot utter it;
the eye is not satisfied with seeing,
nor the ear filled with hearing.
9 What has been is what will be,
and what has been done is what will be done,
and there is nothing new under the sun.

Ecclesiastes 1:2-9 (ESV)

I’ve known this for a couple of weeks and hoped it wasn’t true. But based on more conversations over the last few days and today, I have to report that denials to the contrary I know why Mike Huckabee will not endorse Doug Hoffman despite agreeing with pretty much everything Doug Hoffman says.

Politics and principle in upstate New York

This is your must read of the day.

When we did not endorse the Republican candidate, we caused some hand-wringing among Washington and New York’s Republican political establishments.

I’m proud to defend our endorsed candidate, Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman, and I can do so without having to make any excuses for his positions on key economic growth issues. I would ask the Republican congressional leadership if they can say the same about their preferred candidate, Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava.

This race comes against a backdrop of an impressive record by House Republicans this year. They unanimously opposed President Obama’s reckless trillion dollar so-called “stimulus” spending plan. They have been loud and clear in their opposition to Obama’s budget that contained massive tax hikes.

Almost to a member, they oppose Big Labor’s outrageous Card Check power grab. Increasingly, they even oppose extension of the bailouts that many of them voted for last year. That’s a record taxpayers appreciate, and one Republicans in Congress will succeed with in 2010’s elections.

That’s why their embrace of Scozzafava is so hard to swallow, and ultimately hard to square with their professed renewed embrace of limited-government principles.

You can read Doug Hoffman’s own post at RedState here. You can check out his website here.

This is a battle for the heart and soul of the Republican Party. It is the House version of the Marco Rubio race. We should put them both over the top.

Make it happen.

The Bob Bennett Plan to Screw America

Yesterday I told you how Bob Bennett intends to compromise his way into snatching defeat from the jaws of victory on healthcare.

Today, I present to you video on point:

More Trouble for Arlen Specter

He Gets Some Help from the Club for Growth

When Arlen Specter switched parties back in April, he realized that some of his former supporters might regret having donated money to someone who was no longer a Republican. He made a concession: “Upon request, I will return campaign contributions contributed during this cycle.”

That could wind up being a costly promise. Specter has raised $11 million this cycle, and only has $7.5 million on hand. That said, some donors have a lot invested in Specter and won’t want their money back. And many others might want their money back, but either aren’t aware of his promise or won’t bother to make the request.

Well, the Club for Growth has stepped up to the plate to do something for that latter group. They have offered to contact Specter’s donors and help them ask for their money back. Yesterday they received legal permission to do so:

Sheila Jackson-Lee’s (D-TX) Constituents are Important - Just Not More Important Than Her Cell Phone Conversations [UPDATED]

The arrogance of Democratic lawgivers is plain to see any time they step in front of a camera or microphone, but never is it on such full display as when they actually have to deal with their constituents.

Take, for example, this video of Texas Democrat Sheila Jackson-Lee, who is willing to allow her constituents the honor of being in her presence, just so long as they don’t gripe too much about the fact that she’s talking on her freaking cell phone while one of them is raising a Constitutional and ethical concern about legislation she is supporting in her constituents’ name in Congress.

Go to the four minute mark on the video below and watch until you can’t take any more. [UPDATE]: We’ve shaved it down to the relevant parts: below is the new video. - Moe Lane

And they wonder — they honestly wonder — why people are outraged?

Amazing.
