The second conference call of the day was a regularly roughly-bi-weekly hosted by Congressman Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).
Today’s topic was the ongoing swirl surrounding the Waxman-Markey “cap-and-trade” legislation, and the special guests were Congressman Lee Terry (R-NB) and Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH).
Despite returning home from Washington Wednesday evening and being grossly overloaded with (real!) work, I had to make time today to join a few other folks for a couple of conference calls.
I’ll cover the first of the two in this posting - a conversation mainly about the situation surrounding the Guantanamo Bay detention facility with Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS).
Time is supposed to be nature’s way of keeping everything from happening at once.
Well, that didn’t quite work today - as my as-usual overcrowded day collided with a wish to be in on two conference calls. But somehow it was all made to work.
The main topic of both calls was the confusion that’s breaking out as the White House finds itself in a pickle - as the campaign rhetoric about the importance of closing the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay collides with the reality that there really aren’t any viable options moving forward.
The reality? When it comes to this White House and Guantanamo, it’s obvious that…. they didn’t have a plan….

Yesterday, several of us were in on a roughly bi-weekly conference call organized by Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).
The main focus of the call yesterday was the recent “center of gravity” in the Energy and Commerce Committee regarding all the “climate change” debris and the various proposals spinning around the tornado of “Cap-and-Trade” (perhaps better described as “Cap-and-Tax”).
Rep. McCarthy brings “guests” to these conference calls - and since the focus of this call was energy, the special guest was Rep. Steven Scalise (R-LA). Rep. Scalise serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee - and, of course, he represents Louisiana…. where energy is a major issue.
