It’s that time again. Short version: RNC beat DNC, but DSCC & DCCC significantly outraised their counterparts - sufficiently so that the Democrats raised more overall for the month. When debt is factored in, the Democrats also went from being significantly behind on cash-on-hand to being slightly ahead. That being said: the RNC and NRCC are both reporting significant increases in small-person donors.

Maybe if the NRSC wasn’t so busy wading into contested primaries in efforts to push the conservatives out, people would give them more money.

Hassan Nemazee was more recently a heavy donor and bundler for both the Clinton and Obama Presidential campaigns, bringing in over half a million for the new President; he was also a major bundler for the Presidential Inaugural.
NY Businessman Charged With $74 Million Bank Fraud Against Citigroup
A New York man was charged with allegedly defrauding Citigroup Inc. (C) out of $74 million in loans.
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara in Manhattan and the Federal Bureau of Investigations say Hassan Nemazee, with residences in Manhattan and Katonah, N.Y., fraudulently applied for the loans for Nemazee Capital Corp., of which he is chairman and chief executive.
Federal prosecutors contend Nemazee obtained the money by giving the banking giant “numerous documents that purported to establish the existence of accounts in Nemazee’s name at various financial institutions containing many hundreds of millions of dollars,” the Justice Department said in a statement. “In fact, those were fraudulent and forged documents.”
And I originally had him down as ‘former’ national finance chair for the DSCC, except that I’m seeing no signs that he quit the job (screenshot here).

Short version: Democrats had a good month for the DNC - they beat out the RNC for a change - which was enough to let them end with a edge in amount raised and total cash-on-hand of a couple million. Fortunately, July fundraising for the congressional and senatorial committees was not a repeat of June’s: despite their having a significant edge in membership, the DSCC lagged the NRSC and the DCCC barely edged the NRCC. And the debt still remains significant on the Democrats’ side.

Why am I taking the time to show an attack ad by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee? Because I think it is far from damaging and I think it highlights a number of things.
First of all, the Ds must be worried about Portman because why else would they offer an attack ad this early? They know Portman is raising serious money and that his numbers are improving. So why not take swipe at him and try and slow his momentum.
Second, how lame is this ad? Put aside the debate about trade - and the claim that Portman sent jobs overseas - are they actually accusing Portman of increasing the debt?!? Do we have a chart? Chart after the fold:
Yup, it’s that time again. Short version: the DNC beat the RNC last month, thanks to a Presidential fundraiser; but the NRSC actually raised more money last month than the DSCC; and the DCCC raised only about 200K more than the NRCC. While the cash-on-hand edge for the GOP is less than it was last month’s, it’s because the Democrats are still not retiring their debt, which is 4x the GOP’s.

When Democrats gained a firm lock on all the power in Washington, one thing that seemed sure to follow was a huge edge in fundraising. After all, Barack Obama is a one-man money machine, and Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi would surely be able to raise tons of cash from industries worried how Congress might treat them. Instead, their fundraising has been lackluster - and Barack Obama doesn’t seem to be helping:
Thursday night’s joint Democratic fundraiser headlined by President Barack Obama is expected to bring in a total of $3 million for the two Democratic campaign committees, according to a party strategist familiar with the event.
The figure is surprisingly low considering Obama’s vaunted fundraising ability during the 2008 presidential campaign and the fact that this is the first joint fundraiser benefiting Congressional Democrats since the party regained control of the White House. It’s also about $11.5 million less than what GOP officials said they raised last week for the National Republican Congressional Committee and National Republican Senatorial Committee at a dinner featuring former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.)…
Short version: the DNC kept quiet about its fundraising for a reason; the NRSC & DSCC remain tied in their ability to bring in cash; the DCCC is underperforming; and that debt problem is still looming for the Democrats.

OK, it looks like all the numbers are in. Executive summary: the DNC needs the President to survive, the NRSC is continuing to hold steady, and while the NRCC is probably thankful that the DCCC is debt-ridden, it needs to get on the stick.

Overall, the Democrats raised more in the first quarter, but have less cash on hand and considerably more debt.
Washington Times reporter and friend of RedState Amanda Carpenter has a front page story in tomorrow’s paper on the Democrat Senatorial Campaign Committee’s (DSCC) refusal to return $100,000.00 in donations made by disgraced and indicted ponzi schemer Bernard Madoff.
The DSCC, led by Democratic New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez, received four payments of $25,000.00 from Madoff between 2005 and 2008, with the most recent coming in September of the latter year — just three months before his $64 billion fraud was exposed.
“We have not returned the money yet,” Carpenter reports DSCC communications director Eric Schultz as telling The Washington Times, despite the fact that most “lawmakers quickly purged Madoff cash from their campaign accounts after the news broke in December that Madoff bilked his investors.”
The vast majority of that cash — 88% of it — was returned by Democrats, who benefited from Madoff’s illegal dealings to the tune of $210,000.00 since 1991, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. “The couple donated $238,200 to federal candidates, parties and committees since 1991, and Democrats received 88 percent of those donations,” Carpenter writes. “Madoff gave $11,400 to nine Republicans in the same time period.”
How ironic is this? A national Democratic campaign committee is holding on to donations tainted by the second-biggest known Ponzi scheme of the modern era (behind only Social Security), while Democratic members of Congress are bouncing off the walls in an effort to recoup bonuses paid to AIG executives that were not only legal, but that were legal only because Democrats voted to make them so, in the face of united Republican opposition.
Seriously — you can’t make this stuff up.
Via Andrew Malcolm we see that Obama’s first Presidential fundraiser is scheduled for March 25th, for the DNC. Currently, the Democrats are trying to lower expectations, which… doesn’t mean much of anything, really. They did a lot of that last year to heighten their eventual totals, and it worked out pretty well for them.
