PR for the GOP? Yes. Platform for right-wing hatemongers? Definitely. But a news organization? Definitely not.

White House attacks worry moderate Democrats

The White House’s attacks on Fox News, the Chamber of Commerce, Rush Limbaugh, etc. are making Democrats on Capitol Hill nervous. In particular, the Democrats who sit in districts John McCain won are incredibly nervous about these attacks. Jonathan Allen has an article today on it. This is perfect timing.

Several of us were thinking it’d be fun to get these Democrats on record with their thoughts. Who wants to help?

Below is a list of Congressmen and their phone numbers. Call and ask:

  1. Does the Congressman agree with the President’s attacks on Fox News and the Chamber of Commerce?
  2. Will the Congressman adhere to MoveOn.org’s call to boycott Fox News?

Yes or no is all they have to say. You just make the calls and leave the answers in the comments section here. If the President wants to stir up trouble for Fox and the Chamber of Commerce, let’s make it as painful as possible for his own team.

The list is below the fold. We’ll make sure local media in their home districts know whether they agree with Obama’s attacks on Fox and the business community.

Evolution of the Obama Message II

OPEN THREAD

Earlier this year I outlined the phases of the evolution of the Obama “message.” Here they are again, with another update.

Throughout the campaign and on into January of this year:
February’s phase II:
March and April “World Apology Tour” theme:

.

So now we come to the latest stage in the evolution …

October’s “Fox isn’t news” love us or else media assault:

.

Consider this an OPEN THREAD.

WaPo calls White House ‘Agnewesque.’

They didn't even rate 'Nixonian.'

Another for the ‘media’s starting to get just a bit tired of the administration’s crusade against Fox News’ file. From Ruth Marcus:

Obama’s dumb war with Fox News

There’s only one thing dumber than picking a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel — picking a fight with people who don’t even have to buy ink. The Obama administration’s war on Fox News is dumb on multiple levels. It makes the White House look weak, unable to take Harry Truman’s advice and just deal with the heat. It makes the White House look small, dragged down to the level of Glenn Beck. It makes the White House look childish and petty at best, and it has a distinct Nixonian — Agnewesque? — aroma at worst. It is a self-defeating trifecta: it distracts attention from the Obama administration’s substantive message; it serves to help Fox, not punish it, by driving up ratings; and it deprives the White House, to the extent it refuses to provide administration officials to appear on the cable network, of access to an audience that is, in fact, broader than hard-core Obama haters.

A colleague of mine wondered privately what could be the reason for what is fairly clearly a counter-productive effort on the administration’s part - and when you’re getting this kind of push-back from what is generally conceded to be a core constituency of the Democratic party, you’re engaged in a counter-productive effort. My response was one word:

Pique.

Fun With Ratings: How’s that Boycott Against Beck Working Out?

I noticed Stu Burguiere of the Glenn Beck show point out something fascinating on Facebook:

Olbermann 8pm + Maddow 9pm + Olbermann 10pm + Maddow 11pm + 109,000 other people = Beck at 5pm.

So . . . um . . . how’s that boycott against Beck going? The one designed to get him off the air? Sure there have been some advertisers who fled. There have been many more who were never there, but claimed to be part of the boycott.

But does it really matter? Other advertisers are filling the void and Roger Ailes is, so far, perfectly willing to take care of the show.

Again:

Olbermann 8pm + Maddow 9pm + Olbermann 10pm + Maddow 11pm + 109,000 other people = Beck at 5pm.

So how’s that boycott working out? Heh.

House Democrats Shut Out Fox News [UPDATED: No, it was God]

We’re digging around on this one. From what House Republicans are telling us, Nancy and the gang have turned Fox News off throughout the entire House of Representatives complex.

UPDATE: Nope, wasn’t Nancy. It was God. From an email:

Apparently a lightning strike took out some of the channels. It’s not just Fox News and Fox Business that got taken out (though, they are the only news channels) but also, from our review, C-SPAN 2, History Channel, Discovery Health, DIY, Golf Channel, Weather Channel, HGTV, WE, A&E, AMC, ABC Family, NatGeo, Travel Channel and TLC.
