House Conservatives Now Free to Rally to Hoffman

It is good to see Jeb Hensarling leading the rush to Hoffman this morning. I was more critical than I should have been by Jeb’s endorsement of Scozzafava. The party leadership persuaded too many good guys to go with her and the conservatives trusted the assessment.

It’s outstanding to see Jeb leading the tide this morning as those who sat on the sidelines or went with Dede now are free to choose their conscience and stand with the conservative.

His statement:

I am endorsing Doug Hoffman’s candidacy in New York’s 23rd Congressional District. Doug will fight Speaker Pelosi’s efforts to takeover our health care system and work with us to reign-in the record spending, debts and deficits that President Obama and the Democrat Congress are piling onto the shoulders of our children and grandchildren.

I respect DeDe Scozzafava’s decision to leave the race and am gratified by it. When I agreed to support her, I didn’t think a third party candidate could win and I was wrong. Clearly, Hoffman’s conservative principles are far more in line with my own, and I welcome this opportunity to endorse him. I am excited about this opportunity and will welcome him to Congress.

Jeb Hensarling Becomes a Party Man

Former Chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee Mike Pence is not giving Dede Scozzafava money and is not endorsing her. He refuses to side with an ACORN supported leftist.

Contrast that with the most recent former Chairman of the RSC, Jeb Hensarling, a man I have long admired and the first member of Congress I ever donated to. Congressman Hensarling is throwing his principles out the window and supporting Dede Scozzafava,

It’s the establishment thing to do.

I am a big fan of Jeb Hensarling, but today he earns our ire. I believe he is a conservative, but this is a troubling sign that he is becoming a party man. When one will so easily sell out principles for power — and this goes for all the conservatives willing to line up with the establishment backing Dede — we must be concerned.

And has anyone pointed out that this seat goes away in a year thanks to New York losing seats in redistricting? All this for what? Nothing.

*I have reconsidered and tried to make this a more temperate post, but I sure am hacked off about this.

House GOP Introduces Stimulus Plan

A Plan Centered on Pro-Growth Tax Cuts, and Without New Spending

I just had participated in a conference call with several House Republican Representatives, regarding the House Republican Economic Recovery Plan that the was debuted today. Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA), Congressman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) and Congressman Peter Roskam (R-IL) discussed the meeting this morning with President Obama, and their request that he encourage Congressional leaders to make good on his commitment to give Republican proposals a fair hearing. It sounds as if Mr. Obama was non-committal.

The three Congressmen aired strong concerns about the extraordinary level of spending in the Democratic package, and the near complete absence of growth-stimulating tax cuts. One fact to remember: there is more than 4 times as much funding for grass planting on the Washington Mall as there is small business tax relief. House Republicans have proposed the following package, which they believe will ‘cost’ far less than the Democratic leadership package, and which they believe might even lead to increased revenue, thanks to its potential to generate new business activity:
