We need to step it up for Cuccinelli

Friends, Ken Cuccinelli is being outspent 9 to 1 in Virgina and is still winning.

The Republican Attorneys General Association has for reasons unknown to me not given to Cuccinelli. I’m told the Republican State Leadership Committee gave to Cuccinelli and RAGA’s money was part of that. Still, unions and left-wing interest groups intent on holding the Virginia AG’s office for 2012 are giving the Democrat a lot more. For perspective, the GOP gave Cuccinelli $250K and the Dem equivalent gave Shannon $625K. Shannon ran without a primary or convention, unlike Cuccinelli.

We need to help one of our own — and Cuccinelli is one of our own.

Will you please consider giving to him today. Every penny counts. And with the Commonwealth of Virginia trying to deny the military the right to participate in elections, we need a strong conservative like Cuccinelli in the Attorney General’s chair.

Give what you can. I know money is tight. But Ken really is one of us and he needs our help.

Ken Cuccinelli scores a knock out blow

H/T to Jim Geraghty

In the Virginia Attorney General debate, the candidates got to ask each other questions.

Cuccinelli asked a very simple question of his Democratic opponent: Name the divisions of the Commonwealth Attorney General’s office and describe what each division does.

The answer leaves lots to be desired.

Kill Obamacare Through a Backdoor

I went to a Virginia Conservative Campaign Fund party last night for Ken Cuccinelli, Bob McDonnell, and Bill Bolling.

If you will recall, in 1993 the Republicans took over Virginia. It was a clear signal to the nation that a backlash was coming against the Democrats. Consequently, the Democrats ran for cover and Bill Clinton’s liberal agenda was largely shut down.

If McDonnell, Bolling, and Cuccinelli sweep Virginia this year as Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General respectively, the same thing will happen. Democrats will run scared. Couple that with New Jersey and the willingness of Democrats to carry Barry O’s and Nancy’s water will greatly diminish.

Consider donating to the Virginia Conservative Campaign Fund by going here. They’ll target the money and help the candidates whose victories will mean the destruction of Obamacare.

It’s a backdoor defeat, but it is still a defeat.

Redstate Gathering Video - Ken Cuccinelli

Ken Cuccinelli is a Virginia State Senator running for Attorney General this year. He gave an excellent address about his campaign and the state of politics in Virginia. He is unapologetic about running on conservative first principles, and brings a breath of fresh air in his willingness to fight for his beliefs.

I think you will enjoy this as much as we did in Atlanta.

Obama Anxiety Gives Bob McDonnell Momentum in Virginia

Bob McDonnell

Call it Barack Obama backlash. Yesterday, as I knocked on doors for Virginia gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell, I encountered a variety of interesting folks. Many were willing to listen, some were desperately seeking alternatives to the Democrat Party, and, in a handful of cases, a few were eager to share their astonishment at the leftward direction of America.

How this bodes for McDonnell’s campaign in November will depend on how well he motivates these voters to pull the lever in an off-year election. One woman, who told me she was a Republican, confessed she doesn’t vote in non-presidential years, reflecting one of the challenges for McDonnell. Yesterday, however, she was in the minority. Obama seems to have angered so many people that even his supporters are having second thoughts just 200 days into his presidency.

I was knocking on the doors of voters in a Fairfax County community who have voted in Republican primaries or who lack of clear party identification. That meant I ran into a sizable number of individuals who told me they supported Obama last November, including one female Obama voter who was eager to learn more about the GOP ticket of McDonnell, Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling and Ken Cuccinelli, who is running for attorney general.

Now that we’ve met in Atlanta, we must mobilize.

This weekend, 200 RedStaters gathered together in Atlanta to hear from real conservative leaders and candidates.

We were specific in our invitations — we wanted conservatives, not just Republicans. The message was phenomenal. The time shared was outstanding.

But now we have work to do. We cannot return to our former ways. We must commit to continuous activity on behalf of these outstanding men and women.

If you live in their area, help them. Volunteer. If you don’t live near them, consider opening your checkbook or pulling out your credit card.

We can take back the GOP. We can win on a message of small government. But we have to step up and help.

Each person listed below paid their own way to spend time with RedState activists in Atlanta. This was not a gathering for you to hear from them, but for them to hear from you. And they did hear from you.

Now let them hear from you again — volunteer, talk to your friends, donate, do whatever you can to help them in their elections.

  • Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO) Candidate for the United States Senate
  • Former Congressman Pat Toomey (R-PA) Candidate for the United States Senate
  • Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC)
  • Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX)
  • Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) Chairman, Republican Study Committee
  • Hon. Karen Handel (R-GA) Georgia’s Secretary of State & Candidate for Governor
  • Liz Cheney (okay, she’s not a candidate, but she should be)
  • Ken Cuccinelli (R-VA) Virginia State Senator & Candidate for Virginia Attorney General
  • Michael Williams (R-TX) Texas Railroad Commissioner, Candidate for the United States Senate
  • Marco Rubio (R-FL) Former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, Candidate for the United States Senate
  • Ted Cruz (R-TX) Texas Solicitor General, Candidate for Texas Attorney General
  • Nikki Haley (R-SC) Member, South Carolina House of Representatives, Candidate for Governor

Imagine a United States Senate with Michael Williams, Pat Toomey, and Marco Rubio. Imagine a Supreme Court hearing from Ken Cuccinelli and Ted Cruz on states’ rights. And imagine having two ladies like Karen Handel and Nikki Haley slashing goverment bugets and taxes from their respective Governors’ Mansions.

We can make all that a reality.

An Amazing Time

As you can tell, we’ve been away and busy at the RedState Gathering.

Liz Cheney spoke. She was amazing.

“America needs a commander in chief,” she said, ” not a global community organizer.”

Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Nikki Haley, Michael Williams, Ken Cuccinelli, Karen Handel, Tom Price, Pat Toomey, Roy Blunt, Jim DeMint, and Rick Perry all joined us in person or via video.

It was an amazing time. Stand by for lots of video and pictures.

RedState Endorses Ken Cuccinelli for Virginia Attorney General

You might not realize it, but this is an election year in Virginia and New Jersey. We are particularly focused on Virginia this year, both within the Republican Party apparatus and its candidates for office.

There are three men running as Republicans for Attorney General of Virginia. Only one fits our billing — conservative, pro-life, and able to win. That man is Ken Cuccinelli.

Cuccinelli is a rare breed. He is uncompromisingly conservative. He is ardently pro-life. And he represents liberal Northern Virginia in the Virginia legislature. In fact, Cuccinelli is the last of the conservatives to represent Northern Virginia in the legislature. In the last several election cycles, it looked like Cuccinelli was toast, running against more moderate and liberal Democrats. But each time, Cuccinelli came from behind to win a district whose demographics are to the left of him. And he has never once compromised his conservative principles to represent his district.

Ken Cuccinelli plays retail politics well. He’s great on the stump and he’s great one on one. He gets the grassroots. He knows the pulse of the grassroots. He knows his district. He knows his voters. More importantly, they know him.

He is an attorney by training. In the Virginia Senate, he serves on the influential Senate Courts of Justice Committee. While most people think an Attorney General deals primarily with criminal matters, in fact the Attorney General deals with business, property, governmental, and other legal matters more often — those are right up Ken’s alley. Ken’s bar admissions include the Patent Bar, Virginia State Bar, Eastern District of Virginia, Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, Court of International Trade, Court of Veteran Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Ken Cuccinelli is the perfect candidate for RedStaters across the nation to rally behind. He is pro-life, he is conservative, he wins in areas most people assume conservatives cannot win, and he is totally qualified for the position.

Please join us in supporting Ken Cuccinelli for Virginia Attorney General. More importantly, let’s help him beat the liberal GOP that has caused so many problems for the Virginia GOP. You can donate to him here.

Friends, there are not a lot of elections this year. There are not a lot of people needing a lot of money this year. Ken does need our help. And if you sit on the sidelines and don’t help Ken, you cede your right to complain about conservatives not making inroads — particularly in states like Virginia that are trending blue. We won’t take back Congress if we can’t build up an army of conservative leaders state by state.

Support Ken Cuccinelli.

What Comes After Frederick?

Jim Hoeft at Bearing Drift has the text of a letter from Bill Howell, Kirk Cox and Sam Nixon asking that Jeff Frederick be removed as RPV chairman.

While I continue to find the public release of such letters entertaining, and useful, they do serve their intended purpose: tightening the noose around Frederick.

Erick makes a case that Shaun Kenney would be a solid replacement for Frederick. While I can’t disagree with the choice (Shaun is about as conservative as they come, in spite of that five o’clock shadow), I’m not sure that those baying for Frederick’s head (for the second time in four months) have given the matter that much thought. They are in the position of the dog who chases a truck and then catches it. What does that ol’ dog do now?

Many names have been floated, including that of Tom Davis (which is a non-starter).  And more will be…some of them quite interesting and even energizing.

However, that a replacement will be a conservative ought to be taken as a given.  And the one person who will most likely influence that choice is Attorney General candidate Ken Cuccinelli.
