Liberal Fascism: Chapter 7

Geez. I read this chapter last week and totally dropped the ball on writing about it, in part because it is so meaty. We probably should have divided this chapter in half there’s so much.

Chapter 7 gives me one of my good laughs. I remember a speech Jonah gave in Atlanta last year in which he talked about Barack Obama standing before Planned Parenthood praising its founding, oblivious to the fact that Planned Parenthood was founded, in part, to kill black babies. In fact, judging by all the undercover work out there, that’s still where Planned Parenthood’s heart is.

To make this short, one of the big ideas of early 20th century progressives was eugenics — creating a more pure society through sterilization and killing of the infirmed, retarded, and minority. The left enjoys tarring and feathering conservatives over desegregation, opposition to affirmative action, etc. but its moral and intellectual leaders at the start of the 20th century were the ones championing killing people because they were dumb or black.

In fact, to this day, the taint of eugenics lives on in the left. From abortion to social welfare policies, the left is trying to create a more perfect society through destructive programs that do more harm than good.

Let’s read Chapter 8 next week. Someone else is going to have to take the book reporting duties for the front page next Monday. I’ll be traveling.

Net Neutrality Update

I’ve been held underwater by work lately and am just now catching up with this thing called “posting,” so forgive me if this post is light on links and details, but I want to give you all a heads up on what’s coming down the pipe in the Obama/Google administration. The big project after Net Neutrality is supposed to be a National Broadband Plan.

In theory, the idea of a National Broadband Plan is to give faster Internet access to more people. You see, people frequently think America “lags behind” the rest of the world because certain statistics show America to have worse Internet access than other countries. The problem with those statistics is that they don’t account for population density. A country like Japan, South Korea, or the Netherlands has a much denser, more urbanized population, and so it’s easier to run the wires you need to give them all Internet access.

But all a progressive needs is a good crisis, and they’re calling this a crisis. However, one of the proposed fixes is to give third party ISPs access to wires already laid by ISPs to provide service. Do we see how increased access to wires that already exist with service provided, doesn’t give access to people who don’t have access already?

The real motive of Julius Genachowski, Barack Obama, Google, and the rest of the adminstration’s Internet crusaders is to help freeloaders, which is why the Songwriters Guild of America is against Net Neutrality. Anyone who creates things of value on the Internet has something to lose from the Obama plans. Everyone can see this. The terrible problems with the Genachowski/Obama/Google plans are not theoretical.

Liberal Fascism - Chapter 4

Confession: We have a liberal troll who, when I don’t get a post up on Monday, sends me needling emails about what losers we all are for even attempting this. If nothing else, his email serves as a good reminder that I need to post. But this week I did not read. I got busy at the SPN Conference, then came home sick. Luckily, Warrior is always diligent and we can use his. Besides, this is a group effort. Shame on y’all for letting a left-wing troll who also emails praise for Hitler beat you guys to harassing me. In any event, read Chapter 5 for Monday. — Erick

“Franklin Roosevelt’s Fascist New Deal”

Favorite Chapter Quote, “He [FDR] spoke in generalities that everyone found agreeable at first and meaningless upon reflection.” pg 129

In Chapter 4, Goldberg goes a long way toward establishing the idea that, in the teens, twenties and thirties of the last century, Fascism was on the ascendency. And one of it’s most hearty acolytes was FDR. “The notion that FDR harbored fascist tendencies is vastly more controversial today than it was in the 1930’s, primarily because fascism has come to mean Nazism and Nazism means simply evil.” Pg 123 The fascist (Hitlerite) nature of New Deal fiscal policy was actually invoked as a point in its’ favor at the time.

Liberal Fascism — Chapter 3

Chapter 3 of LIberal Fascism is the one I read over and over. I think it is a model of how Obama is going to operate and we should be mindful of it.

The raw acquisition of power requires multiple outside and inside groups to help maintain that power.

In Wilson’s case, it was rather eye opening. We certainly do think of all the progressive era ideals that Wilson helped advance up to and including the League of Nations.

What I don’t think people realize is that Wilson jailed more people for merely dissenting against government than Mussolini did in a decade. All the things the left accused George W. Bush of doing or contemplating doing, Wilson, a Democrat, actually did.

It was deeply disturbing.

I also don’t think, in review of Goldberg’s material, that he is stretching to say Wilson was a fascist dictator whose only real restraint was his collapse in health. Back then we didn’t have limits on the Presidency, so he could have run for a third term had he been healthy.

Throughout Jonah’s book and really in Chapter 3, we are reminded that liberals have no long view of history. They demand an honest and full accounting of the right’s history, while willfully ignoring their own.

Next week, we’re into Chapter 4. Remember, use “Book notes” as your tag and we can track each other. Also, I’ll see about firing up our RedState Facebook Group for further discussion.
