MM to NYT: Welcome to the jungle.

I prefer the term 'Fishbowl,' myself.

The New York Times, on its corrected coverage of the ongoing fall of ACORN:

ON Sept. 12, an Associated Press article inside The Times reported that the Census Bureau had severed its ties to Acorn, the community organizing group. Robert Groves, the census director, was quoted as saying that Acorn, one of thousands of unpaid organizations promoting the 2010 census, had become “a distraction.”

What the article didn’t say — but what followers of Fox News and conservative commentators already knew — was that a video sting had caught Acorn workers counseling a bogus prostitute and pimp on how to set up a brothel staffed by under-age girls, avoid detection and cheat on taxes. The young woman in streetwalker’s clothes and her companion were actually undercover conservative activists with a hidden camera.

Michelle Malkin grades them for the effort: short version is that they’re still flunking, and will continue to do so until they address the Anita MonCrief [corrected] matter*. Michelle ended her article by welcoming the NYT to the ‘jungle.’ Personally, I prefer ‘Fishbowl:’ it’s more descriptive.  People notice these things now.  They notice, also, when newspaper websites do their best to avoid linking directly to conservative online sources; I’m pretty sure that Big Government wouldn’t have gotten that link if ACORN hadn’t pulled their own statement from their own website.

I don’t actually want to see newspapers go away, seeing as they’ve got structural advantages on news gathering that I envy.  Like actual budgets: when someone like Robert Stacy McCain** decides that he’s going to go down to Kentucky and cover the Bill Sparkman murder, he has to shake the tip jar, write a few posts highlighting the issue, and hope that somebody comes through for his expenses.  The equivalent NYT editor simply calls up the relevant department and has somebody set it up.  The ability to follow stories that easily is a powerful ability; would that the NYT was willing to take advantage of it.

*Unless you consider one sentence sans link or details at the end of this piece ‘addressing.’  Michelle clearly doesn’t.  For that matter, I don’t think that I do, either.

**Otherwise known as R.S. McCain, Bob McCain, Stacy McCain, or Robert McCain.

There must be consequences

Knew this would happen eventually, somehow I hoped not…

Back in February, a little over a month in office, Obama lifted the restrictions on the press using dead soldier’s pictures; I was pissed. Then, as now, I apologize for any bad language that may escape me.

Michelle Malkin today posted this (via Blackfive), and now I am beyond words.

And the predictable Huffington Post, ever as vile as its Troll-doll namesake, Arianna, decided to unleash Greg Mitchell;

Going back to 2002, I have been writing about the shameful reluctance, even refusal, of U.S. media outlets to carry graphic images of the true cost of our wars, to Americans, in Iraq and Afghanistan — dead or even, in many cases, gravely wounded U.S. soldiers and Marines.

Earlier today, the Associated Press — bucking the wishes of the Pentagon and the victim’s family — decided to go ahead and transmit such a photo.

The “man” then goes on to call the dying Marine’s picture splashed around for all the other trolls to use in their feeding frenzy “tasteful”. I’ve seen the picture, it is not.

Don’t Drink the Skool-Aid

“Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president. These would be collected and redistributed at an appropriate later date by the teacher to make students accountable to their goals.”
-White House suggestion for post-speech activity for students.

Keep ‘em home.
That should be the motto of every conservative with children in public school on the 8th of this month. That’s the day the President will be invading every classroom that will have him with what is being billed as a general, innocuous “stay in school, do your homework” message for public school students across the country. And if there’s one thing we have all learned, it’s that we can trust the Obama administration to say what they mean and mean what they say. Right?

Why should the presidential morning announcements concern parents? Well that list is too long for a complete accounting, but let’s talk about just a few of the big reasons.

First off, Michelle Malkin walks us through the materials distributed to schools to accompany the president’s instructions address, as well as listing some of the luminaries involved in Obama’s education plans. I would excerpt, but you really want to read the whole thing. Go ahead, I’ll wait.

Win a Copy of Michelle Malkin’s New Book

Let’s have a contest.

It’s fitting that Michelle Malkin’s new book is out and rocketing up the charts. Having Eagle Publishing as our Beltway Overlord has its advantages because they also own Regnery Publishing, which published Michelle Malkin’s book. So I can give away a free copy without stealing back my copy, which I’ve sent to my dad to read.

So here’s the contest:

Write a letter to flag@whitehouse.gov disclosing your personal sins as a right-wing healthcare informant. Blind copy contact@redstate.com on the email.

We’ll review the emails and highlight the best of the best.

The user community will then vote for the very best one.

That person will win a free copy of Culture of Corruption.

NOTE: You’ll have to use a real email address because that’s how I’ll contact the winner.

Have you bought Michelle Malkin’s book yet?

I’m sure you’ve seen Matt Lauer lose his cool interviewing Michelle Malkin.

And if you want a really fun time, watch Michelle dominate the nags at the View. Poor old Joy Behar was left swallowing her spittle.

Michelle’s book is now #1 on the New York Times list, which is sending the left into a frenzy of antagonism.

I’ve read it. It’s awesome. And I don’t just say that because Regnery published it. It’s a great read. I gave away several free copies at the RedState Gathering and my dad has “borrowed” my copy.

Get your own copy here.

Malkin Goes to #1. Leftist Horde Attacks.

Michelle Malkin has done it again — another best seller. Her new book Culture of Corruption is soaring to #1 on the best sellers lists and it’s no secret why — it is a devastating blow to Barack Obama and, unlike the reality based community, is actually based on real facts.

Naturally, the leftist horde has assembled to attack her and seek to discredit her. No, they are not seeking to discredit her book, but her personally. That’s natural. Michelle did a hell of a job documenting everything she says with lots and lots of notes.

Her book is particularly timely because of the healthcare debate. In the book, she documents how Barry O’s wife got a job via earmarks at the University of Chicago’s hospital and then administered a program engaged in patient dumping.

The high-paying “community affairs” post was another make-work job no one else at the university needed to do until Michelle Obama came along. And it was a job no one else needed to fill after she left. In January 2009, Mrs. Obama’s indispensable job was eliminated as part of a massive restructuring to cut annual budget costs by 7 percent. . . . Unfortunately for many of Chicago’s poor, Mrs. Obama didn’t depart until after she helped engineer a rather un-progressive and unkind plan to dump low-income patients with non-urgent complaints from the medical center.

It’s all there and all documented. It’s also a number one best seller. It’s available right here.

Oh, and full disclosure, Regnery Publishing, which is also owned by RedState’s Beltway Overlords, published the book. That just means I got a free copy to review.

Bonnie Erbe stands up for conservative women, except for the one who isn’t white.

Shocking coincidence, that.

She had it coming, you see. (Also via Hot Air Headlines)

You know, Michelle Malkin and I have some serious policy disagreements in a couple of areas, particularly on immigration issues - I am confident that she’d call me a pro-amnesty squish, mostly because by her definition I am - so keep that in mind when I suggest to Ms. Erbe that she did Smart Girl Politics or conservatism no favor at all with her ’support.’

The address for SGP, by the way, is http://smartgirlpolitics.ning.com/Not http://smartgirlpolitics.org/: I hesitate to suggest that this was deliberate, mostly because I’m profoundly tempted to make it a formal accusation.

Teh Twitter - Open Thread

YOU HEARD ME

Teh Twitter. Yeah. I’m hip. What of it?

Let me tell you something about Twitter. Despite the many humor blogs you’ve seen written, most people on Twitter are not sending Tweets (yes, that’s really what they are called … sigh) highlighting every mundane detail of their lives. “About to eat chicken” … “Eating Chicken” … “Done with Chicken” … “Remember the part where I was eating the chicken? That was awesome” … this is not, some of you may be surprised to learn, what Twitter is all about.

Twitter is a fast moving environment for commentary and to share articles, news, links, photos and essentially a snapshot of what’s happening on the web and in the world, in brief but sometimes enlightening or hilarious bursts, which don’t allow for too much embellishment, too much verbosity, or too much pompous over-stylizing of the way in which one speaks and communicates what thoughts or above-mentioned links which they may be trying to share.

In other words, no sentences like the one I just typed.

If you aren’t familiar with Twitter, the first thing you’ll need to do is set up an account. Go ahead, I’ll wait. Now that you are on teh Twitter, you want to start following people. The way to do this is to go to their @twitter address and click on FOLLOW under the name. Easy! Now if only you knew WHO to follow … (cough @CalebHowe cough)

Following the right people is the key to enjoying Twitter. To that end, I’m going to make some suggestions. As this is an Open Thread, discuss what you will, but I invite you, in the tradition of #followfriday, to share your Twitter recommendations. (If you aren’t familiar with hashtags ask in the comments.)

Blogging The 2nd Annual Sammies

Wherein I meet Joe the Plumber, Michelle Malkin, Mary Katherine Ham (again), John Fund, Stephen Moore, and a host of great up and coming conservative bloggers.

A wrap up…

We conservatives have two major problems. I’ve said it dozens of times before but one of those problems is that we don’t do “join” well. The left, on the other hand, does “join” exceedingly well. They gather together, share resources, and help each other very, very well. The other problem we have is cash.

Again, the left funds as well as it joins. The left supports its side very handsomely with generous and constant donations. The left also has a bevy of deep pocketed supporters that target the new media with their money. Media Matters, George Soros, DailyKos, MoveOn.org, these people and entities flood the left-O-sphere with much need cash to further their message. Their tendrils reach far and wide and they control the message well with their cash.

Malkin’s Recovery.com err, org, whatever … Emblem Contest

Michelle Malkin is hosting an amusing photoshop contest this evening. You see, and I know this will shock you, but Obama has come out with a gitchy, stylized, web 2.0-ish logo, or “emblem” for his economic “recovery” plan, which you can see floating cutely to the right here.

So, being the resident photoshop nerd here at Redstate, I thought I’d take a shot. Click through for the result.

And so it begins: the Right to take a swig of Protest Culture.

Contemplate the quote below before you snicker.

“How come,” I asked Andy, “whenever someone upsets the Left, you see immediate marches and parades and rallies with signs already printed and rhyming slogans already composed, whereas whenever someone upsets the Right, you see two members of the Young Americans for Freedom waving a six-inch American Flag?”
“We have jobs.” said Andy.
-P. J. O’Rourke

Which tells you two things:

  1. It’s in the Left’s best interests to keep the unemployment rate down… oops.
  2. Don’t let the time that elapses between the emergency session to pass a bill and the leisurely signing of it four days later include a national holiday.  People get those off.

Via Little Miss Atilla - sorry, no CPAC again for me this year - we’re told that there are actually going to be protests against this monstrosity of a Democratic debt bill tomorrow in both Denver and Seattle.  Check out Michelle Malkin and Redistributing Knowledge for further details.  Will it be large?  Don’t know.  Will it be mocked?  Almost certainly, as only people who know that you have to squash populist resentment quick before it breeds can do it.  Will it be worth it?  Yes.  Will you be there, or do something of your own down the line?

Well… that’s up to you, isn’t it?
