Michelle Obama: Martyr

While you and I have been lounging around waiting for old folks to die needlessly because we’re against Obamacare, Michelle Obama has been doing the hard work on our behalf. She’s visiting Copenhagen.

In her speech in Copenhagen today, First Lady Michelle Obama said her trip to Denmark, along with the travel of her “dear friend” and “chit-chat buddy” Oprah Winfrey, as well as tomorrow’s visit by President Obama, is a “sacrifice” on behalf of the children of Chicago and the United States. “As much of a sacrifice as people say this is for me or Oprah or the president to come for these few days,” the first lady told a crowd of people involved in the Chicago project, “so many of you in this room have been working for years to bring this bid home.”

The first question that comes to mind is “which freakin’ people are saying that spending several days in luxurious accommodations in Copenhagen is a sacrifice?” Because you need to get the Secret Service to keep them away from the president because they are seriously psychotic.

The level of self absorption in this administration is simply mind boggling and is probably exceeded only by their sense of entitlement.

And if you stopped to wonder why the president felt this is the best use of his time, you can stop worrying.

Mrs. Obama said bringing the Olympics to Chicago is especially important right now because “athletics is becoming more of a fleeting opportunity.” “Funds dry up so it becomes harder for kids to engage in sports, to learn how to swim, to even ride a bike,” she said. In addition, with childhood obesity on the rise, “it is so important for us to raise up the platform of fitness and competition and fair play,” the first lady said.

Oh well, I’ve got to go apply for my government grant to teach my daughter to ride her bike.

Michelle Obama: When The Race Card Stalls, Trump With Gender For The Win

Seriously Michelle…SERIOUSLY?

Via Drudge we learn that the First Lady believes the current healthcare system is ‘crushing’ women and is, therefore, unacceptable. Apparently, according to the FIRST woman, just being a woman requires that you suffer an undue burden for your family in attending to their collective need for healthcare. Not to worry, ladies, her husband means to deliver you from this evil:

[W]omen play a unique and increasingly significant role in our families. We know the pain, because we are usually the ones dealing with it.

Eight in 10 women, mothers, report that they’re the ones responsible for choosing their children’s doctor, for getting them to their checkups, for managing that follow-up care. Women are the ones to do it. Mothers are the ones that do it. And many women find themselves doing the same thing for their spouses. (Laughter.) And more than 10 percent of women in this country are currently caring for a sick or elderly relative. It’s often a parent, but it could a grandparent, or a mother — or a relative of some sort — but it’s often a parent. So they’re making critical health care decisions for those family members as well.

[snip]

So I think it’s clear that health insurance reform and what it means for our families is very much a women’s issue. It is very much a women’s issue.

And if we want to achieve true equality for women, if that is our goal; if we want to ensure that women have opportunities that they deserve, if that is our goal; if we want women to be able to care for their families and pursue things that they could never imagine, then we have to reform the system. We have to reform the system. The status quo is unacceptable. It is holding women and families back, and we know it.

Women appear, in Shelly’s mind, to be in especial need of a Government takeover of all that tedious business of attending to our family healthcare needs so the girls can catch a little break from the heavy labor of…wait for it…life and reality and personal responsibility.

But what about the non-women out there? Many men have assumed this role…do they NOT know the work of tending to the healthcare needs of their families, or are these things just not a burden to them because they’re “men” and therefore don’t know any better? Worse, is she suggesting that Men don’t need to be saved…just the Women? Worse, still…is she pretending that Men don’t even DO these things…only Women?

I know inarticulate, desperate blathering when I hear it. This, my friends, is the finest example I’ve come across in quite a while.

Michelle Thinks She Was Elected Empress

All hail the empress Michelle.

The Washington Post had an interesting article on June 25 headlined, “A First Lady Who Demands Substance.” I think it was meant to highlight that fact that Michelle Obama is more than a mere first lady but is a strong, substantive person — which is, by the way, without question. Unfortunately, though, it ended up revealing a Michelle Obama that is an angry, arrogant, martinet that isn’t aware that “first lady” is an honorary title that has no proper, Constitutional role and is not an elected position with legal, legitimate powers of its own.

The story penned by Lois Romano comes on the heels of Michelle’s dismissal of her chief of staff, Jackie Norris, who was replaced by 61-year-old Susan Sher. Apparently, this switch is supposed to mark the arrival of the new Michelle Obama, the one that will have “impact” at the “fulcrum of power and policy.” To pursue this new “power” Michelle has hired a full-time speech writer and has told her staff to think “strategically.”

Impact? Power? Strategically? I have but one question: who elected you to this “power,” Michelle? I also have an answer: no one.

Let us recap the Gerald Walpin situation.

We can begin with this video, which goes over the basic points:

Short version: Walpin was investigating Obama crony’s involvement in an AmeriCorps-related scandal involving misappropriation of funding. Case was settled, to the mild detriment of crony*. Walpin disagreed with settlement. Complaint made against him. So far, this is all he-said, he-said.

Michelle Antoinette and the Don’t-Go-To-The-Mall Administration

The Nomenklatura Always Get Nice Shoes

Michelle O!Michelle Obama, February 2008:

Obama explains that she and her husband made the choice to give up lucrative jobs in favor of community service. “We left corporate America, which is a lot of what we’re asking young people to do,” she tells the women. “Don’t go into corporate America. You know, become teachers. Work for the community. Be social workers. Be a nurse. Those are the careers that we need, and we’re encouraging our young people to do that. But if you make that choice, as we did, to move out of the money-making industry into the helping industry, then your salaries respond.”

Michelle Obama, April 2009:

Michelle Obama has taken casual to a haute new level.

While volunteering Wednesday at a D.C. food bank, the First Lady sported her usual J.Crew cardigan, a pair of utilitarian capri pants and, on her feet, a sneaky splurge: trainers that go for $540.

That’s right: These sneakers - suede, with grosgrain ribbon laces and metallic pink toe caps - are made by French design house Lanvin, one of fashion’s hottest labels. They come in denim and satin versions, and have been a brisk seller all spring.

They’re out of stock at posh Meatpacking District boutique Jeffrey, and Barneys New York boasts a limited selection of the sneaks, which are a cult favorite among fashionistas.

It’s likely Michelle got hers through Ikram, the Chicago retailer that often outfits her.

Obama’s Pi in the Sky

The Audacity of Extravagance

When you’re craving Pizza, you have options. You can call your local Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Papa Johns or Pizza Inn, and it will be delivered to your door. Or you can save the delivery charge and pick it up at the Pizzaria. My sister and her family prefer Papa Murphy’s, which prepares an oven-ready pie for you, and you pick it up, take it home and cook it yourself. Those who like to do it all for themselves can get the ingredients and make their own pizza from scratch. But if you’re Barack Obama, and you were completely blown away on the campaign trail by the pies from Pi in St. Louis, no other pizza will do:

On Saturday, another slightly-higher-viz Chicagoan was in town speaking to a record crowd (conservatively estimated at 80,000) on the Arch grounds. Long-time and active Barack Obama supporter Chris Sommers, owner of pizza restaurant Pi, had previously contacted the Obama advance team, saying he’d be honored to provide the crew with some post-visit nourishment. The team accepted Sommers’ offer and 5 pizzas were delivered downtown. Several hours later, Sommers’ cell phone rang: “Mr. Sommers? Please hold a moment.” After a pause: “Chris, this is Barack Obama. I just wanted to tell you that was the best pizza I have ever eaten—and I’m from Chicago. And thank you also for all your hard work and campaign support.”

Carry-out just isn’t an option in this case, because the pie would be stone cold by the time it landed in Washington D.C. What’s the president of the United States to do?

Of Tax Cuts Whose Collective Bark Is Worth Than Its Collective Bite

Compare and contrast. From the AP:

Democrats said the [stimulus] bill’s tax cuts would help 95 percent of all Americans, much of the relief in the form of a break of $400 for individuals and $800 for couples. At the insistence of the White House, people who do not earn enough money to owe income taxes are eligible, an attempt to offset the payroll taxes they pay.

How effective is that? Let’s ask an expert on the issue of tax breaks:

You’re getting $600. What can you do with that? Not to be ungrateful or anything. But maybe it pays down a bill, but it doesn’t pay down every bill every month.

Michelle Obama on the Bush tax rebate of 2001. Somehow, the First Lady’s criticisms of paltry tax rebates was just not considered when the current stimulus bill was crafted.
