PETA plays politics to extort money

The Fee-for-Smear Business Model

If like me when you think PETA you think of a organization that has a seemingly worthwhile cause, the ethical treatment of animals, but whose tactics are so extreme that they actually harm that cause.  You think over-the-top or short sighted.  But you probably don’t think of them as money grubbing extortionists who also happen to fail at the most basic level.

Well, sadly, you should.

It seems that what PETA does best is not help animals but shakedown companies for money by attacking their competitors while at the same time failing to save animals from being put down.

Barack Obama, PETA, and Gianna Molla

[promoted from the diaries by streiff]

Compare and contrast . . . it’s always been a useful analytical tool. So useful, as a matter of fact, it’s introduced in early childhood. Many a toddler book is about how things can be alike or opposite.

Barack Obama, PETA, and Gianna Molla offer a perfect contrast. You know, it’s one of those 180 degree ones.

Take PETA first. They are the infamously goofy “People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.” They’re well known for grabbing at publicity with ridiculous stunts and their ranks are even peppered with several Hollywood celebrities. Rank opportunists, they’ve released a statement concerning a fly that was swatted by Barack Obama during a recent CNBC interview. Obama even bragged up the catch and kill saying:

“That was pretty impressive, wasn’t it? I got the sucker”

Warning: NEVER Sell a Dog to a Democrat, Especially if it’s Joe Biden

How much is that doggie in the window? About $4,000 in legal fees.

Free national advertising. It’s a thing that most business people hope for in their dearest dreams. What could be better than a national spotlight on your business without having to spend money on advertising? Well, dog breeder Linda Brown found out what could make that dream worse: Democrats.

In December of 2008, Brown felt what she thought was the “honor” of being picked by Vice President elect Joe Biden as his source for a new German Shepherd puppy. “Out of millions of breeders in the country, in the world, he picked me,” she gushed… at first.

Then came the death threats from wild-eyed PETA members, Internet rumor mill attacks, and the constant harassment by state inspectors.

That “honor” quickly devolved into horror.

Reminder: March 15th is International Eat a Tasty Animal for PETA Day.

Mark your calendars, and start haunting the meat aisle.

EATAPETA is a traditional holiday started by Meryl Yourish, and much beloved by those who get annoyed by the group (quite bipartisan, by the way: I’ve seen vegans go off on PETA). The Anchoress recommends that you go with seafood for this year’s festivities, what with the entire “sea kitten” thing: Musing Minds is taking recipes. But that might be because of the Lent thing.

As always, remember: if you happen to be someone who does not eat meat - and there are a variety of valid reasons why people personally choose not to do so - but you despise PETA anyway, just throw BBQ sauce on whatever it is that you’re eating in order to symbolically reject the group.
