Somali Pirates up the ante.

As you probably noticed, I’ve been polite in reacting to the administration’s handling of the first wave of Somali piracy. This has been mostly out of pragmatism: like Jonah Goldberg and Ed Morrissey, my interest is in seeing dead or stopped pirates, and my generally low opinion of Democratic Presidents aside when it comes to setting foreign policy, this is actually one time when Obama’s natural instinct for detachment would be fine. The military knows how to handle piracy, particularly when they’re not required to worry about nation building whatever euphemism the administration eventually comes up with to replace ‘nation-building.’ Which they wouldn’t have to. I’m even pleased to see the chest-beating bravado from the Online Left: it’s, well, cute - and God knows that their ideology gives so few opportunities to act anything like the ‘primitive’ men that they publicly deride and privately envy.

Besides, I also knew that this was going to happen (via Jammie Wearing Fool):

Should The Surviving Somali Pirate Be Tried…In Juvenile Court?

Piracy On The High Seas Is Not Joyriding

It’s so hard to do satire these days, because the truth is so often beyond parody. The last of the heavily-armed pirates who stormed the Maersk Alabama, held a paralyzed U.S. Navy at bay for three days and repeatedly threatened to execute their hostage unless they were paid millions in ransom may well be tried in the United States for piracy. This is probably the right call, since this is piracy against American ships, although really it would have been better if all the pirates had been killed on the spot. Where this gets bizarre is the suggestion that an act of piracy on the high seas should be treated as a juvenile crime because the pirates reportedly were somewhere between age 16 and 20:

Captive Captain Saves President Obama

UPDATE: See here. Left (including you TotalFarkTards) behaving badly.

From the Daily News:

US commandos freed hero Capt. Richard Phillips today and killed most of the pirates holding him hostage in a dramatic end to the four-day high seas standoff that riveted the world.

CNN reported Phillips helped divert the pirates by jumping into the ocean, giving waiting Navy Seals an opening to wipe out the ragtag pirates who had been holding the world’s most powerful Navy at bay on the Indian Ocean.

Three of the four Somali pirates were killed, and the fourth was taken into custody, according to initial reports.

The resourceful Phillips was said to be uninjured and safely aboard the destroyer USS Bainbridge.

(h/t) Tammy Bruce & Moe Lane.

Playing pansy politics with pirates put the Captain’s life at increased risk. His first escape attempt was thwarted by the thugs as Phillips remained adrift from the aid and cover of the US Navy, which sat restrained by an administration too cowardly to let slip the dogs of war. Each day the tension and humiliation of a nation grew. The emboldened pirates fired upon our men of action, who thus restrained could not yet act in kind. The terrorists’ defiant lack of fear inspired their fellows to target other American vessels. All while the community organizer in chief flipped through his conflict resolution handbook.

But here, at long last, the captive captain is free. He leapt clear and our faithful Navy, apparently at last free to take the safety off, rid the world of three contemptible degenerates and have the fourth in custody to question. So the bold leap into the sea frees the President of the burden to act.

In the end, Captain Phillips wasn’t saved by the President, but by his own courageous plunge and the deadly professionalism of our men with guns. The President, you see, was saved by the Captain.

(Cartoon) - Speak Softly…

Walk Softly

The Eunuch-in-Chief shows his ineptitude by negotiating with terrorists

The Somali “pirates” are at it again, and this time they’ve provided the United States with that foreign policy crisis that VPOTUS Biden predicted would occur.  The pirates terrorists are now targeting US-flagged and manned vessels, and that puts our Eunuch-in-Chief in a position where he must (heaven forbid) make a real decision.  To no one’s surprise, he and his administration have decided to play nicey with the terrorists and negotiate with them.

The FBI sent in hostage negotiators and is investigating the Somali pirates, raising the possibility of federal charges against the men if they are captured.  But Obama has remained silent on the standoff so far.

“Obama has remained silent”.  Somehow I have this vision of him in his closet in a fetal position with his blanky and his binky (apologies to TOTUS), rocking back and forth and calling for his mommy because he is utterly incapable of dealing with a real crisis.

Bowing to Kings, Bowed By Pirates, Obama Shows His Weakness

Obama is allowing the French to show him up and the pirates to beat him up. His "America Sucks" tour of Europe is fully realized.

As Obama bows in supplication before a Saudi King then tries to spin his way out of his own actions, America is being humiliated by whelps at sea. He was just leaning, we’re told, not bowing. It was because the Saudi King is short or so goes the White House spin. But the Queen of England is even shorter than the Saudi King and there was no royal navel gazing from Obama in England! Obama failed that test, indeed.

To be sure, Barack Obama is being tested just like Joe Biden said he would. But those testing him are not the sort of big state actors that Biden imagined would task the new president. They are low-tech, low-rent, unorganized pirates, not heads of state of great and dangerous nations. And this fact, that it is mere pirates testing him, is an even bigger slap in the face than it would be if it were a powerful nation or two testing President Obama.

And worse, these skinny, underfed, unorganized and ill-equipped pirates are making a fool of what is ostensibly the most powerful man in the world. And it is about to get worse if Obama allows the U.S. Navy to stand idly by as more pirates come to the scene of the standoff to float in solidarity with the four fellows holding captain Philips in that disabled power boat.
