Everyone knows they’re bloggers but they also maintain academic careers, and I really encourage you to contact them (if you already haven’t) and seek out their blogging advice. It’s a difficult world you’re living in as a (relative) Conservative in academia – who wants to also blog as a (relative) Conservative from academia who is *not* yet a professor – and you should talk to both of them. There are a few others, I’m sure people at Redstate can refer you to them.

Your writing is already great and I know it will get even better.

Nice diary. Know many here are going to be proud of you and your courage. Our son is 35 and working 60 to 80 hours a week. He has his regular job and then a second one starting up a business. He has been very political as well as spiritual and thank God never veered off from the path. That’s going to be my prayer for you (if you don’t mind) that you stay on that straight path, convicted in your beliefs.

On controversial issues, particularly ones that appear as headlines on the Drudge Report, give yourself the license to take a few hours (and maybe as long as a day) while you collect your thoughts and gather enough material to post authoritatively on the subject.

Being “first” and being “wrong” aren’t compatible with each other if you’re also trying to be “serious.”

Take a look back through the archives from 2007-2008 also and really try to understand the history of this blog.

Redstate doesn’t need people going off half-cocked on the front page, so to speak . I’m sure the Editors chose you because they had a feeling you wouldn’t anyway, but this is a reminder. Headlines on the Drudge Report aren’t even the first draft of history, they’re kind of the conversation starter that gets the people who write the first draft of history interested in some spectacular subject.
