I’ll confess it. Once upon a time, I thought Hillary Clinton was the Wicked Witch of the West. I thought she was the most destructive thing that could ever happen to the United States. I thought her supporters opposed everything I ever cared about. And now, I’m really starting to like those guys. How can this be?
First, Hillary impressed me with her refusal to lay down and die like the Obamedia told her to do. She fought right on. She spent her own money fighting Obama. She donated more to the cause of keeping him out of the White House than any single other person. More time. More money. She’s no sissy quitter. I don’t like a lot of her policy positions, but I started to respect her somewhere along that long primary campaign.
Then one day I’m reading my beloved Ace. I follow a link over to Hillbuzz and I really like those guys. I’m so shocked that a Hillary Supporter Page on the internet has a bookmark on my computer. I feel like I am living in the twilight zone.
But I want to show you some of the posts there that made me decide to post this diary.
Just a thought here, from a spiritual reader who asked us this question: “Do you believe God did all this to bring people together?”
There’s a comic book called Watchmen that’s being made into a movie right now. In it, a superhero creates a giant world-consuming threat that makes all adversaries come together for the first time ever, to work side by side to defeat something terrible much bigger than themselves.
People who never in their lives DREAMED they’d work together — teaming up to stop the absolute worst thing any of them could imagine.
In the comic, that was an invasian by space aliens.
In the moment, it’s a socialist becoming president and destroying America as we know it.
And here we are, Republicans and Democrats teaming up, like never before, fighting for America on the same side against the Obama Nation.
We sure as heck never thought we’d be campaigning for a Republican — let alone TWO Republicans we genuinely LIKE.
We put aside so much silly partisan nonsense during the last few months — and we made friends across the aisle we hope will last forever. After this election, we’ll be on different sides of the aisle once more, but we’ll never be enemies again.
We’ll look back on Obama ‘08 as the impetus that forced us all to work together for what’s right for America — so maybe we can accomplish a lot together in the next four years of McCain’s administration.
We aren’t religious around here at HillBuzz. Lapsed Catholics mainly. But, we have to admit, we do feel SOMETHING at work here. Maybe it’s patriotism that’s coursing through all of it. Maybe it’s something spiritual. We know we’re not imagining it though. Because others feel it.
SOMETHING big is happening here. Bipartisanship isn’t just a word that’s tossed around anymore. It’s real.
And to think, none of this would have ever been possible without Obama’s socialist threat on America.
Now, isn’t that neat? And how about this:
Republicans, this is directed at you. Hillary’s Army remains strong, and committed to putting McCain/Palin in the White House. Do not listen to the media. Ignore the trolls. Corral your Eeyores and put them on the endangered species list. Because by our most conservative estimate, you’re going to get 4 million Hillocrats on your side next week, with roughly another 3 million Democrats who voted for Kerry staying home or throwing their votes to McKinney or Nader. That’s 7 million votes Obama has lost from lifelong Democrats — because we love this country more than Republicans have ever given us credit for.
This is the greatest nation on Earth and we Democrats never fail to wake each morning deeply thankful and grateful for the opportunities we have here. We know what socialism is, and know we want no part of this here. Obama’s mission is to weaken this country and put us under the thumb of the UN, like a European socialist state. That’s not what we want.
We will fight tooth and nail to stop him. We’ve sunk everything we have into this — because McCain/Palin are worth it. We believe they will serve this country well, and will work with our champ, the new lion of the Senate, Hillary Clinton, to make us energy independent, to secure good solid jobs for all Americans, and to strengthen and grow our economy in a world stressed and tried in these times.
We do not intend for this alliance to be of only this moment — we’ve worked alongside all of you for months now and see we all have more in common than we ever had apart. We will never agree on everything, but let’s all start with our love of country. Our pride in America. Our willingness to work hard together to give everyone opportunities — not hand outs. Europe calls Obama’s plans socialism. We call it welfare. Obama says this is change. We paraphrase the McCain campaign because, much to our initial surprise, Clinton Democrats find more in common with McCain/Palin than we do the socialists the current Democratic Party revealed itself to be.
So, all of us centrists stand strongly with you. Please work hard in every way you can this last week. Join us in Ohio if you can — or in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, or Virginia. Let’s make sure socialism is defeated once and for all.
We can do this together. If we work hard, we will win. And after our victory, we will work hard to find other commonalities going forward.
Of this, we promise you, our new friends.
Elephants and pumas together, now and going forward.
*Via FreeRepublic:
A poll was conducted back In June 2008, and it found that the number of Hillary supporters that were going to vote for Obama was 58%, with 28% going to vote for McCain. The rest were undecided.
In September, another poll was conducted, and it found that things were unchanged for Obama. This poll found that the percentages were still 58% going to vote for Obama and 28% going to vote for for McCain, with the remainder still undecided.
If the remainder ends up splitting evenly, that will give McCain 35% of Hillary supporters that will vote for him and 65% for Obama.
18 million people voted for Hillary in the Democratic primaries. 35% of those 18 million voting for McCain on Nov. 4th, 2008, will translate into about 6.4 million votes for McCain - votes that Obama will not get - and would have gotten had he chosen Hillary as his veep.
This may account for why the MSM pollsters have skewed their polls and rampantly oversampled Dems, and undersampled Repubs - along with tainting their polls with extra blacks and college students being polled.
6 million plus axtra voters for McCain…
Wow.
Since early voting numbers show that few college students are turning out to vote early for Obama, even though he and his campaign have been pleading with them to do so, and with some polls showing that Obama’s turnout of black voters won’t be much better than John Kerry’s were, the Obama campaign is worried.
This election is far from over. The polls are much, much closer than many realize.*
This encourages me more than you can imagine. There are people on the other side of the policy divide that I have more in common with than I ever thought I would. And I like it like that. I hope this bi-partisanship carries through the McCain administration.
And I hope the reason Hillary isn’t out busting her hump for Obama is because she agrees with them. The Senate will be a better place if leading Democrats recognize that they don’t really want to be polar opposites of Republicans. That Obama is an example of what it looks like to oppose everything the Republicans stand for. Yes, Obama. The man who is farther left than the only self described socialist in the entire US Senate, Bernie Sanders.

Pretty cool!
Andy Smith Wednesday, October 29th at 7:04AM EDT (link)But how legit do you really think this is? I knew McCain was going to attract some Hillary voters, but over six million? Something tells me that’s too good to be true.
Recent polls can be an indicator, however. Gallup shows a two-point lead for Obama, and FOX said this morning that it looks like Rasmussen will be tightening up as well. Other polls show a lot of undecideds out there, which is great news for McCain. I’m just unsure about getting over six million Hillary supporters.

It's surreal to me too, but two reasons why I've come

1. She did not divorce Bill during the impeachment. Keeping her family together for the good of the country during a personally mortifying experience took real character.

You know Uma I totally agree with your statement...
JadedByPolitics Wednesday, October 29th at 7:28AM EDT (link)that Clinton has not bashed the other woman Palin….I as a woman who despises the Clinton’s have respect for her in not doing that!

1SGinTN Wednesday, October 29th at 8:19AM EDT (link)We are in a shooting war, which too many seem to forget, and a cultural war that is just as important to survival of the nation. We certainly need to work together with the people who understand that. Perhaps all those Jacksonian Democrats will come out of the woodwork, and realize they are Jacksonian rather than, say, Carterite.

Probably not.
itrytobenice Wednesday, October 29th at 11:16AM EDT (link)But that’s not the point. The point is, there are a whole bunch of Democrats who don’t want America to have a redistributive tax code and are not crazy socialists and they are willing to vote for a Republican to keep a far leftist out of the White House.
It really is country over party. They are even going to vote against some of their own social policies because they truly believe that the basis of the country is more important.
I think that’s important, and I wouldn’t have believed it could happen just a few short months ago.
As to how many there are? I don’t think we’ll ever know, but I personally know several who either won’t vote or who will vote for McCain.
The problem with America is stupidity. I’m not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don’t we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
Agree completely
itrytobenice Wednesday, October 29th at 11:18AM EDT (link)When the media and many in her party are surely begging her to get out there and tear Sarah Palin a new one, she has not and I appreciate it.

The PUMAs are adamant they have 4 million voting McCain
Dave_in_Fla Wednesday, October 29th at 11:21AM EDT (link)And another 3 million sitting home or voting 3rd party.

Exactly
itrytobenice Wednesday, October 29th at 11:30AM EDT (link)The legs on our three legged stool may be a little longer, or shaped differently, than theirs. I believe I’m more of a war monger than even the Hillbuzz people. I believe I’m even more of a fiscal conservative than those people. But at least they have a leg there.
And they seem to be willing to show respect for opponents rather than engaging in the unfair attacks of the Obama campaign. They have refused to mock and belittle Sarah Palin, even though it is the fashionable thing to do.
I don’t think Obama, himself, has any of the legs, but the Hillbuzz people have at least something in common with me, though maybe not to the same extent.
I guess the only thing that we still completely disagree on is abortion and some other social issues. And we may even have common ground there with many of them, if we could only sit down and talk it out.
I guess this is one of the reasons that I want that decision out of the court system. It is impossible for Americans to reach a compromise on an issue for which we’re not allowed to make a decision. When our only input is to select a Senator or President that we hope will vote for a benevolent black-robed dictator, that’s not much input.
The problem with America is stupidity. I’m not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don’t we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
The polls have been remarkably consistent
itrytobenice Wednesday, October 29th at 11:50AM EDT (link)Fox was talking about it the other day. The polls have not budged since the end of the primary.
I suppose it was such a long primary, they had a chance to learn about him and make up their minds before it was over and have not seen anything to make them back up.
I hope they’re right. An extra 6 million voters will maybe make up for all the ACORN fraud.
