I’ll confess it. Once upon a time, I thought Hillary Clinton was the Wicked Witch of the West. I thought she was the most destructive thing that could ever happen to the United States. I thought her supporters opposed everything I ever cared about. And now, I’m really starting to like those guys. How can this be?

First, Hillary impressed me with her refusal to lay down and die like the Obamedia told her to do. She fought right on. She spent her own money fighting Obama. She donated more to the cause of keeping him out of the White House than any single other person. More time. More money. She’s no sissy quitter. I don’t like a lot of her policy positions, but I started to respect her somewhere along that long primary campaign.

Then one day I’m reading my beloved Ace. I follow a link over to Hillbuzz and I really like those guys. I’m so shocked that a Hillary Supporter Page on the internet has a bookmark on my computer. I feel like I am living in the twilight zone.

But I want to show you some of the posts there that made me decide to post this diary.

Just a thought here, from a spiritual reader who asked us this question: “Do you believe God did all this to bring people together?”

There’s a comic book called Watchmen that’s being made into a movie right now. In it, a superhero creates a giant world-consuming threat that makes all adversaries come together for the first time ever, to work side by side to defeat something terrible much bigger than themselves.

People who never in their lives DREAMED they’d work together — teaming up to stop the absolute worst thing any of them could imagine.

In the comic, that was an invasian by space aliens.

In the moment, it’s a socialist becoming president and destroying America as we know it.

And here we are, Republicans and Democrats teaming up, like never before, fighting for America on the same side against the Obama Nation.

We sure as heck never thought we’d be campaigning for a Republican — let alone TWO Republicans we genuinely LIKE.

We put aside so much silly partisan nonsense during the last few months — and we made friends across the aisle we hope will last forever. After this election, we’ll be on different sides of the aisle once more, but we’ll never be enemies again.

We’ll look back on Obama ‘08 as the impetus that forced us all to work together for what’s right for America — so maybe we can accomplish a lot together in the next four years of McCain’s administration.

We aren’t religious around here at HillBuzz. Lapsed Catholics mainly. But, we have to admit, we do feel SOMETHING at work here. Maybe it’s patriotism that’s coursing through all of it. Maybe it’s something spiritual. We know we’re not imagining it though. Because others feel it.

SOMETHING big is happening here. Bipartisanship isn’t just a word that’s tossed around anymore. It’s real.

And to think, none of this would have ever been possible without Obama’s socialist threat on America.

Now, isn’t that neat? And how about this:

Republicans, this is directed at you. Hillary’s Army remains strong, and committed to putting McCain/Palin in the White House. Do not listen to the media. Ignore the trolls. Corral your Eeyores and put them on the endangered species list. Because by our most conservative estimate, you’re going to get 4 million Hillocrats on your side next week, with roughly another 3 million Democrats who voted for Kerry staying home or throwing their votes to McKinney or Nader. That’s 7 million votes Obama has lost from lifelong Democrats — because we love this country more than Republicans have ever given us credit for.

This is the greatest nation on Earth and we Democrats never fail to wake each morning deeply thankful and grateful for the opportunities we have here. We know what socialism is, and know we want no part of this here. Obama’s mission is to weaken this country and put us under the thumb of the UN, like a European socialist state. That’s not what we want.

We will fight tooth and nail to stop him. We’ve sunk everything we have into this — because McCain/Palin are worth it. We believe they will serve this country well, and will work with our champ, the new lion of the Senate, Hillary Clinton, to make us energy independent, to secure good solid jobs for all Americans, and to strengthen and grow our economy in a world stressed and tried in these times.

We do not intend for this alliance to be of only this moment — we’ve worked alongside all of you for months now and see we all have more in common than we ever had apart. We will never agree on everything, but let’s all start with our love of country. Our pride in America. Our willingness to work hard together to give everyone opportunities — not hand outs. Europe calls Obama’s plans socialism. We call it welfare. Obama says this is change. We paraphrase the McCain campaign because, much to our initial surprise, Clinton Democrats find more in common with McCain/Palin than we do the socialists the current Democratic Party revealed itself to be.

So, all of us centrists stand strongly with you. Please work hard in every way you can this last week. Join us in Ohio if you can — or in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, or Virginia. Let’s make sure socialism is defeated once and for all.

We can do this together. If we work hard, we will win. And after our victory, we will work hard to find other commonalities going forward.

Of this, we promise you, our new friends.

Elephants and pumas together, now and going forward.

*Via FreeRepublic:

A poll was conducted back In June 2008, and it found that the number of Hillary supporters that were going to vote for Obama was 58%, with 28% going to vote for McCain. The rest were undecided.

In September, another poll was conducted, and it found that things were unchanged for Obama. This poll found that the percentages were still 58% going to vote for Obama and 28% going to vote for for McCain, with the remainder still undecided.

If the remainder ends up splitting evenly, that will give McCain 35% of Hillary supporters that will vote for him and 65% for Obama.

18 million people voted for Hillary in the Democratic primaries. 35% of those 18 million voting for McCain on Nov. 4th, 2008, will translate into about 6.4 million votes for McCain - votes that Obama will not get - and would have gotten had he chosen Hillary as his veep.

This may account for why the MSM pollsters have skewed their polls and rampantly oversampled Dems, and undersampled Repubs - along with tainting their polls with extra blacks and college students being polled.

6 million plus axtra voters for McCain…

Wow.

Since early voting numbers show that few college students are turning out to vote early for Obama, even though he and his campaign have been pleading with them to do so, and with some polls showing that Obama’s turnout of black voters won’t be much better than John Kerry’s were, the Obama campaign is worried.

This election is far from over. The polls are much, much closer than many realize.*

This encourages me more than you can imagine. There are people on the other side of the policy divide that I have more in common with than I ever thought I would. And I like it like that. I hope this bi-partisanship carries through the McCain administration.

And I hope the reason Hillary isn’t out busting her hump for Obama is because she agrees with them. The Senate will be a better place if leading Democrats recognize that they don’t really want to be polar opposites of Republicans. That Obama is an example of what it looks like to oppose everything the Republicans stand for. Yes, Obama. The man who is farther left than the only self described socialist in the entire US Senate, Bernie Sanders.

My fellow Americans, I have spent my life in service to this nation that I love. I was willing to die to protect her and I remain endlessly committed to her in all ways.

Following my time in the military I entered Congress and have spent the last twenty years of my life proving that I am committed to the success of her citizens and the protection of her people.

I have proven my commitment to limiting the intrusion of gov’t into your lives and have tried to limit your tax burden at every turn.

Now we reach a time of decision. I have explained that raising taxes, as my opponent proposes, will hurt our economy. I have explained my plan to cut taxes to stimulate the mighty engine of American ingenuity.

I have pledged to keep your tax burden as low as possible and to fight against government waste.

I have pledged to protect this nation from all enemies, both foreign and domestic.

But now your choice looms. You will choose between freedom or gov’t control. You will choose between military might or appeasement. You will choose between economic freedom or class warfare.

You can’t know the future or the challenges it holds. But you are required
to choose a leader who is able to confront unknown challenges. Choose
wisely, for your future and the future of your children will be affected by
the vote you will cast.

Now this is kind of funny. Hubby started this for me with a much varied speech. Kind of a cram it up your rear if you’re stupid enough to vote for him. I agreed, but when I started writing it, it just kinda morphed into this. Kind of a tough love, ‘poop or get off the pot’ kind of speech. I hope he gives it.

And I’d sure like to have preview on diaries. Is it there and I’m just too stupid to see the button?

And, yeah, it’s safe for work. Even though it is … oh, I’d better not say what I think of Howard Stern or this diary won’t be.

For those of you guys with dial-up, Howard Stern’s man goes out into Harlem and asks people whom they support. When he finds an Obama supporter, he attributes McCain’s positions to him and asks if that is why he supports Obama. They are on tape saying that they support Obama because they support the right to life, a victorious end to the Iraq War, oppose stem-cell research, and think that Sarah Palin will make a great VP.

I think as a precondition of being allowed to vote, you must have either paid real estate property taxes or paid income taxes at least two of the previous four years. At some point, the people who have a real stake in the operation of our government should have the voice as to its operation.

My mom says that you don’t have an obligation to vote. You have an obligation to get informed. Then you will vote. Some people should listen to my mom.

Roy Blunt wouldn’t even commit to supporting anything. He said we would just have to wait and see what came out on paper and he would present it to his people and see what they would say. He never smiled at all.

In other words, we can expect people to default on their mortgages with impunity, HUGE payments to ACORN and La Raza, and a further nationalization of our financial sector.

This will be great, when the greatest snakes in the grass who ever existed have control over the money of the country’s banks.

I saw today on the news (it was either Ted Nugent or Barry Goldwater, Jr.): Never let your dog watch your food or Congress watch your money.

Just to brag on our local party and the things we are doing to win elections. We had a little meeting tonight to listen to a phone call from the McCain campaign, clean up the office and talk about our game plan for the election.

Our big push is to improve our turnout. On election day we call Republicans and remind them to vote. It is a multi-part operation, including phone calls from the headquarters, monitors at the polling places, and runners that transport information between the two.

Callers sit in headquarters and call people to remind them to vote. The monitors, sitting in the polling stations, check names off the list of potential Republican voters who have voted. The runners go around gathering updated lists and transporting them to HQ. That way we don’t call people reminding them to vote when they have already done so, allowing us to concentrate our efforts on the people who still need to go.

This year has been great for us because we had a contested primary in both parties. Missouri has an open primary, so you can pick up a ballot from either party when you vote in the primary. This year, however, the primaries were still very much in limbo when it got to MO on super Tuesday. We figured that meant that people would actually be more likely to take the ballot for their own party than they would if the primaries were only contested in one or the other party.

We had monitors who sat at each of the polling places with a list of registered voters on super Tuesday and kept track of which ones took an R ballot versus a D ballot. It wasn’t all that nice, because for me at least, the D election judge really didn’t like the idea of a Republican sitting there and she did her best to keep me from seeing who it was that voted and which ballot they took. But we got through it with a lot of valuable name and party information.

Now, when we call people on election day to remind them to go vote, we are much more likely to get Republicans than accidentally call and remind a Democrat.

We will also be making more calls between now and election day, where we will function more as pollsters, just asking for party ID and asking if they intend to vote for McCain or Obama. The McCain voters will get reminded on
E-day, the Obama voters will get their windows soaped. j/k

This plan has worked pretty well for us in the past, as our county gave Matt Blunt a 10,000 vote margin to help counteract the morons in KC and StL. Hopefully it will work as well for McCain and Hulshof.

Nancy Boyda defeated Republican Jim Ryun for the Kansas 2nd Congressional seat in 2006. She is running this year against Lynn Jenkins.

Boyda is a perfectly good democrat who has refused to break ranks with Pelosi on her energy intransigence.

So, I’m coming home this evening and hear a commercial on the radio from Boyda, discussing how she is going to run a good clean campaign and represent Kansas, blah, blah, blah. Then she said she is including an insert in such and such newspaper discussing her energy solutions, which include expanded drilling and alternative fuels. No kidding.

How stupid are voters? Is it possible that they will bite on this little well covered hook? She has voted for expanded gov’t control, including fuel economy, increasing taxes on oil companies and chased some rabbit down a hole on unused leases. The one thing she hasn’t done is pushed for more drilling.

Where does she get off putting that as her number one solution in a re-election ad? And why are there not howls of protest among the watchdogs of democracy (yes, I mean the legacy media) when a politician makes such an outlandish claim?
