DHS + FISA = we will soon see or: Axelrod tips his hand

Today on “Face The Nation”, David Axelrod said one of the most sinister things anyone in the Obama administration has said thus far. From Fox News online:

Axelrod was asked on CBS’ “Face the Nation” for his opinion on what the show’s host described as “this spreading and very public disaffection with not only the government, but especially the Obama administration.”

Axelrod replied: “I think any time that you have severe economic conditions, there is always an element of disaffection that can mutate into something that’s unhealthy.”

“Unhealthy?” the moderator repeated.

“This is a country where we value our liberties and our ability to express ourselves. And so far these are expressions,” Axelrod answered.

Did you catch that? Tea Parties could mutate into something “unhealthy” – a little euphemism for “violent”. Axelrod believes we’re all a little crazy because of the “severe economic conditions”, but he thinks some people, like Republicans at a McCain / Palin rally, will probably take it one step further.

Have you heard it before? I know, I know, passionate Republicans were excoriated for actually cheering during Palin speeches which were critical of The One. Worthless hacks like David Gergen and Paul Begala muttered darkly about concerns of violence, setting the table for this quite nicely – but that was just talk. We now have the big guns jumping on the bandwagon.

Back-up straight from the DHS:

Rightwing extremist chatter on the Internet continues to focus on the economy…

Which isn’t the real concern. This is, and always has been:

Many rightwing extremists are antagonistic toward the new presidential administration…

So far though, “these are expressions”, not anything more. But we know that “expressions” can qualify as “hate speech” at the drop of a hat or the whim of a judge. Label it, criminalize it, then eliminate it.

Heck, it’s backed up by the DHS:

DHS/I&A will be working with its state and local partners over the next several months to ascertain with greater regional specificity the rise in rightwing extremist activity in the United States…

And what better tool to help with this domestic terrorism prevention policy than – say it with me – FISA.  I wondered why the concern from the left over Obama’s continuation and expansion of this program died down as soon as it rose, and now I know why.  In an attempt to fight terrorism abroad, the Bush administration gave Barack Obama the perfect tool to eliminate dissent here at home, and the left knows it.

We are the new terrorists. Radical Islam is no longer the enemy. Barack Obama has made that plain. Radical Love for one’s country through opposition to this surreal administration is the true enemy while at the same time being the first identifiable symptom of a domestic terrorist. Passion is expression is hate is violence is criminal. Count on it.

It took me a little while to put two and two – DHS and FISA – together.  And my opinion doesn’t come from some fever swamp filled with black helicopters, they come from the words of those at the highest levels of this administration.

As was noted on another diary which has made it to the “recommended” list, the construction of the gallows upon which Lady Liberty will die has taken the left generations to build, piece by painstaking piece. It is now complete, and I wonder which one of us will be the first to garner the attention of the government through the DHS, and be treated to the power of FISA. Hell, they may even want to keep Gitmo open if this thing works out.

You know, when you say the name in light of all of this – Department of Homeland Security – it really begins to sound a little sickening.

…I sure hope the a-holes take into account the two envelopes I sent them this week. One contains a check with the notation “2008 Form 1040″ and the other says “2009 Form 1040-ES Estimated Tax”.

Right wing extremist my @$$. Hell, I’m paying for their damn picnic.

And the exact same chatter is making its way from my house to theirs. It would have paid for a hell of a vacation to Europe, and I definitely would have made my way to Normandy.

I kept saying, when you grow government’s power, you always have to think what would our political enemies do with this power, because sooner or later, they will have it.

we need to reduce the size and scope of government to the level intended by our Founders. If anyone does not understand this, keep reading it until you do.

    • Jack_Savage

Shiled time is over – I guess we need to prepare for the sword.

        Arrrrgh…

earlier and my thought is that they’re very scared.

The fear is making them indiscreet as witnessed by the DHS report and other crazinesses. Now I am in no doubt whatsoever that their direct intention is to intimidate the movement with their rhetoric and dumbass DHS report. However, even with all that has happened it would be surprising to me if they start eavesdropping. I hope I am not proved wrong on this. I really do.

    • Jack_Savage

But remember, the gallows were built one piece at a time. Three steps forward, two back. Just like Leahy’s “Truth And Reconciliation” sham, this is now on the table, and we just don’t have anyone that I can see who thinks this is a hill to die on.
I think they are scared too, but that makes me believe the worst. We’ll sure see.

who is going to enforce this monstrosity? Over the weekend I thought of all the DHS employees I know. Two are affiliated with the Coast Guard. One works at HQ. Two are FBI agents. All five are active church goers, (four Catholic, one Presbyterian). All five are veterans. At least two are pro-life Republicans, and I just don’t know the politics of the others.

I’m not denying the danger that this report reveals, but I’m not expecting the brown shirts to knock on my door tomorrow. For now, Obama and Co. still have to deal with organizational inertia. If Janet is an incompetent administrator, all the better. We just have to work hard to get a legislative check to executive power in 2010 before Obama can stack DHS with anti-conservative people.

    • Jack_Savage

But my only wonder is how many would it take? If your five would hesitate, are there another five who would not? We have seen what has happened at CIA, and we all know about the leaks at DoD. Will DHS employess stand up to this, like your five would, or will they go along to save their jobs or, it they believe it, to save their country?

I think we all agree that the table is set. We’ll see what happens.

      • Uma Richie

And those are all good questions that we are working to keep in the hypothetical.

as long as they’re in the right places…

A few from the FBI, several more at the IRS, back them up with DOJ and a few select federal courts, then direct and coordinate the operation from the White House through DHS.

        The prototype was very successful.

Substitute West Wing for DHS, and the description is an accurate representation of the Clinton White House.

Clinton had Echelon, his own version of the NSA’s Terrorist Surveillance Program, except, Echelon looked inward.

I expect no less from the current Democratic Administration, because “enemies” of the State don’t see themselves as subjects.

for ensuring that the military lays down their government issued weapons when told to quell the “dissent”.

  • $peciallist

    you’re scaring me….

let’s be real, to pull that off, DC would have to full of brain dead zom…….nevermind

    dude…you’re scaring me

Or at the least, a warning that if we persist in resisting more expansion of government that there would be hell to pay.

Here, in areas like this, is where the Democrats shed whatever cleverness they have. They simply cannot help themselves.

They will grossly, horribly overplay their hand with this. When we talk about the electoral squishy middle and how to win them, THIS sort of thing will cause them to reflexively recoil in horror away from Democrats.

Once the Dems start in on something like this, then the Right will, with full approval of the middle, begin to successfully parlay the Nazi and brownshirt images and tattoo them to the Left’s broad behind.

    • Jack_Savage

Is how many people in this country have no problem with the DHS memo, and actually support it. Those people already have the tattoos, and their brownshirts are starched and ready.
The people in America who are familiar on a personal level with socialist dictatorships are aghast at what is taking place, and things like this are so very familiar to them.

…well, yeah, Jihadis aren’t going to stuff the ballot box for Romney, are they?

The coercive power of the State is going to be deployed against electoral foes, not existential ones. That’s part of the Alinsky Method.
