Virginia AG – elect Cuccinelli makes his first mistake

I think I am going to throw up. A Democrat is co-leading Cuccinelli’s transition team, and not just any Democrat. From the Richmond TImes Dispatch:

Cuccinelli announced this morning that his transition will be led by former Attorneys General Andrew Miller, a Democrat, and Republican Richard Cullen, as well as former state GOP chairman Pat McSweeney.

Miller, an unsuccessful candidate for governor and U.S. Senate in the 1970s, practices law in Washington. He’s from a storied Democratic family; his father ran for governor in the 1950s, opposing the conservative machine of the late Harry Byrd Sr. (emphasis mine)

Can we go one friggin’ day without reaching across the aisle? One friggin’ day? We’ll see how this turns out, but when a Democrat is involved it is normally not good.

effing your enemies and the transition effing your friends. Business as usual.

you have nothing to worry about with Ken. I know him personally, trust me.

As for Andrew Miller, his last election was in 1978 so its not like he matters at all, Ken’s just looking for someone with some knowledge and the last few GOP AGs were GIlmore, Earley, and Kilgore all of whom are considered political losers.

And fighting the Byrd Machine is something to be proud of.

There is no Republican in the Commonwealth of Virginia more qualified than Andrew Miller to lead the transition team? A man who was AG in the 70′s? (And BTW, the Millers fought the “conservative” part of the machine, not the “machine” part of the machine.)

I am just disappointed, but I guess we’ll see.

Francis Pickens Miller ALMOST won the governorship in the 1940s, and Andrew Miller was always considered a conservative Democrat.

And lets not rewrite history. The “conservative” Byrd is not the same definition as we have now. He choked this state to the point where maybe 20% of the population could vote, there was no black participation, and they went all-in witth the segregationists during Massive Resistance. Virginia was very nearly a passive dicatatorship with participation and power was limited and centralized. Fighting Harry Byrd is nothing anyone should be ashamed of.

And don’t worry about Cuccinelli’s transition . . . he also has ultra-conservative Patrickl McSweeney on the transition team. McSweeney is best known as the state chairman who pushed for Oliver North in 1994, then backed Bob Marshall’s conservative challenge in 2008, and then was behind Patrick Muldoon’s convention challenge of Bill Bolling in 2009. McSweeney is so conservative that Bill Bolling wasn’t good enough for him. Thats saying something. So don’t worry about Ken.
