FINALLY! Budget cuts Obama can believe in

It looks like Virginia is going to receive justice, thugocracy style, for electing a Republican governor. Let me introduce you to the Joint Forces Command, soon to be a memory. From Fox News Online:

Joint Forces Command, or JFCOM, is one of 10 full combatant commands. Most correspond to regions of the world, such as Pacific Command, but others are organized around a concept or mission rather than geography.

JFCOM lists its mission as training troops from all services to work together for specific missions. It tries to make sure equipment used by different services works together, and looks for gaps in capabilities within military services that could be filled by a specially trained joint force.

The command is headed by a four-star military officer, the highest grade currently in use. Marine Gen. James Mattis was its commander until named last month to replace Army Gen. David Petraeus as head of U.S. Central Command. His replacement will be Gen. Ray Odierno, now the war commander in Iraq. Odierno’s job will be to eliminate his own office, officials said.

I hate to say this, but it seems as though training the different branches of our armed forces to fight together is…well…necessary. Not for Barack Obama I guess, whose charm offensive in the Muslim world seems to have given us reason to slash defense spending while at the very same time irresponsible blue states with powerful and politically generous teacher’s unions get bailouts. Got it.

The Virginia-based command trains troops from different services to fight together. Joint Forces Command, with nearly 4,900 employees and annual salaries of more than $200 million, is the largest single cut to be announced Monday.

Here’s the message – a state trending red in the age of thug politics is very, very dangerous indeed. I wonder how the 4,900 jobs are going to be listed in Obama’s “saved or created” directory?

It is a “command”, and thus does not come under the umbrella of BRAC.

The cynic in me says that this is simply an opportunity for Webb and Warner to triangulate against the President and look like heroes when Gates backs down. If Gates doesn’t back down, Webb and Warner are toast.

In an update, the shovel -ready project of the new Joint Forces Command HQ Building is now officially “on Hold”, soon to be “Abandoned” in commercial construction parlance.

and they might not be complying with the letter of the law either.
