I wonder what the Portuguese is for, “I know all about getting paid by donors”? Former Portuguese instructor and current President of AFT-Wisconsin Bryan Kennedy is running to replace Joe Wineke as Chair of the Democratic Party.

Kennedy is most famous for his failed runs for congress against long-time Republican incumbent Jim Sensenbrenner. In his last run, Kennedy took the questionable approach of actually paying himself a salary out of campaign donations, arguing it was necessary if he was going to campaign full-time.

Kennedy’s best performance was 35 percent in 2006, which might raise questions about what exactly recommends him as the Democratic Party’s top strategist.

Outgoing Chair Joe Wineke came under fire from the party faithful for taking a $2000/month lobbyist job for AT&T. What special interests will pay Kennedy a salary this time, and will the party faithful stand for it?

“This book is going to land hard in some quarters . . . It’s a book about two very complex people. They were not your typical mom and dad. This is not Ozzie and Harriet.

A poll by the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute, inc., and Diversified Research surveyed over 600 Wisconsin residents and found A poll by the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute, inc., and Diversified Research surveyed over 600 Wisconsin residents and found 73% were opposed to raising taxes on business..

Wisconsin residents oppose raising taxes on business profits by a range of 73% opposing it while only 19% supported raising taxes. These are among the key findings about statewide policy issues from the most recent survey of 600 Wisconsin residents conducted by the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute, Inc. and Diversified Research between November 9 and 10, 2008.

Geographically, the most support for raising taxes came from LaCrosse where 33% of the respondents supported it and Madison where 25% were in agreement. Among Republicans only 10% favored raising taxes on businesses, while 25% of Democrats agreed. Ideologically, 31% of Liberals said they would favor raising taxes on businesses, only 9% of Conservatives agreed with that.

It would be interesting to see is a map of results and compare it to the election results from earlier this month. But a quick look at this chart would seem to indicate just how much the GOP brand reputation of fighting taxes must have fallen.

An unconfirmed report out of India has the Indian Government urging Twitter users to not share specific on the scene information, and further that the Government may be trying to block Twitter in India, or is asking Twitter to block Mumbai related tweets.

Twitter has become an international talking point today following its use by many on the scene witnesses in Mumbai after the multiple terrorist attacks there Wednesday evening local time.

The interesting side of the report, read out on ABC Radio Melbourne at 3:10pm AEST (so no hard link, I just happened to be in the car at the time) is the notion that terrorists may be reading Twitter for intel; it’s not impossible, but notably someone in India thinks Twitter offers a bigger risk than traditional blogging or even heritage media.

Just remember, as rough as your Thanksgiving could be, eating with an editor of the New York Times has got to be worse.

I’m grateful I am not eating Thanksgiving with the New York Times editorial board. Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin recently did the Thanksgiving photo opportunity of pardoning the Thanksgiving turkey at a turkey farm. While the press was interviewing her on camera, the turkey farmer processed a couple of turkeys in the background.

The squeamish New York Times editorial board actually complained about Palin’s interview, calling the slaughter of the turkeys an “execution” and “carnage.” What do they eat for Thanksgiving? Tofu?
