Afghanistan song

Back in 1969 Woodstock Festival occured on dairy farm in the the Catskills in the town of Bethel, New York. Country Joe and the Fish sang the Vietnam Song. here I was a young boy but it did have a catchy lyrics. A few years later. I knew a few hippes who had attended. (20 t0 24 years of age) Peace and love was their motto. These were their ideals. Most of these people had liberal attitudes. Many protested against war and authority. Looking back now I realize that many liberals are hypocrits!

Where are the liberals now? Why aren’t they protesting? My how times have and  haven’t changed. How ironic that the generation of 60′s  liberals are prosecuting war in Afghanistan, encouraging the rise of Islamists, attacking Catholics on abortion and threatening patriotic Americans at home. I guess what those 60′s liberals were really protesting was their lack of power, not the ideals they espoused.  I have adjusted the lyrics to fit the time we live in.

Well, come on all of you, big strong men,

Uncle Obama needs your help again.

He’s got himself in a terrible jam

Way down yonder in Afghanistan

So put down your books and pick up a gun,

We’re got Al Qaeda on the run.

.
And it’s one, two, three, What are we fighting for ?

Don’t ask me, I don’t give a damn,

Next stop is Pakistan;

And it’s five, six, seven,

Open up the pearly gates,

Well there ain’t no time to wonder why, Whoopee!

we’re all gonna die.

Come on Wall Street, don’t be slow,

Obama is sure helping you rake in the dough

There’s plenty good money to be made

By Bernake creating His Q E charade,

But just hope and pray when we go off the cliff,

That you cronies remember the stimulus gift

And it’s one, two, three,

What are we fighting for ?

Don’t ask me, I don’t give a damn,

Next stop is the homeland.

And it’s five, six, seven,

Open up the pearly gates,

Well there ain’t no time to wonder why

Whoopee! we’re all gonna die.

Well, come on generals, Obama has created a mess;

Go out and give it your best

Now you can take orders from these reds

‘Cause the only good christian is the one that’s dead

And you know that peace can only be won

When we’ve blown ‘em all to kingdom come.

And it’s one, two, three, What are we fighting for ?

Don’t ask me, I don’t give a damn,

Next stop is America; And it’s five, six, seven,

Open up the pearly gates,

Well there ain’t no time to wonder why

Whoopee! we’re all gonna die.

Come on mothers throughout the land,

Pack your boys off to Middle East.

Come on fathers, and don’t hesitate in the least

To send your sons off before it’s too late.

And you can be the first ones in your block

To have your boy come home in a box.

And it’s one, two, three What are we fighting for ?

Don’t ask me, I don’t give a damn,

Next stop is the Vatican.

And it’s five, six, seven,

Open up the pearly gates,

Well there ain’t no time to wonder why,

Whoopee! We’re are all gonna die.

We do not need that protestor rubbish…

Especially when it’s no longer disrespecting draftees, but now VOLUNTEER career soldiers, who are there because they want to be – often quite literally (At least on the reserve/Guard side, a unit will often have transfer-in volunteers, who got sent there because they wanted to deploy)….

And the liberals – the far left – ARE whining about the war… Along with the Paultards and other not-quite-Right isolationist fools…

The best thing that can be done about Afghanistan, is to get the politicians off the Army’s back & let us do our job….

Agreed the politicians need to get off the Army’s back and win. I would take out every bad guy I could find. But that isn’t happening and won’t happen under Obama. You either give our guys the ability to win or “Get the Hell Out” Let them kill each other in that hell hole. Our guys have their “hands tied” and coming home in body bags. The point is if a liberal was not President these liberal hypocrits would be up in arms.

      • Dave_A

I was over there… Yeah, there was some hand-tying – but most of it was imposed by mid-level (‘field grade’) military leadership unwilling to stick their neck out for the guys in the field…

It didn’t make the mission impossible… Although we did swat a few flies with some 500lb sledge-hammers, when more efficient methods would have been available if we’d had ‘untied’ hands…

The point, in the end, is that no matter what, the Taliban can’t be allowed to govern Afganhistan again.

If we leave now (or any time soon) they WILL resume control of the country – and thus have a claim to having DEFEATED the United States.

UNACCEPTABLE. They directly aided a deliberate military attack on US soil (9/11). This means they must be destroyed… Not just beaten up a little & permitted to take power again in a few years. Destroyed.

No matter the cost. And I say that as someone who could easily be part of that ‘cost’ myself.

Everyone who talks about winning in Afland…has not a clue about how to define it…

    • jamesm

You are correct. I have yet to hear one clear and defined statement of what the mission is in Afghanistan. Our country is stuck in the middle with our partners (Afghans) vascillating between a mild dislike to an absolute hatred of America. What we need to do is make some tough choices. This is what real men or women do. Take the Taliban out (my suggestion) or get out. Half baked measures never work.
