New to this

Greetings,

Apologies in advance if this is not the correct forum to pose this thought/question/concern… First post and all….

I’ve reflected on all that’s going on with czar’s, O’s broken promises, unconstitutional take over of private businesses, “health” “care” “reform”, eligibility, Dem party infighting, the RCP Congress poll giving Repubs the overall edge, and so on… I’ve tried to get the sum total of all that’s happened in one year and pose the following two questions:

Supposing Conservatives experience a resurgence as America awakens, will they finally go on the offensive to squash the socialist lefties just a vehemently as the Socialists have tried to marginalize the Republicans? Or will it be, “whew! that was a close one… beat ‘em back a bit and enjoy our freedom and celebrate our democracy… (I can hear it now: ‘See? The system works! Power to the People!!!!’)”? Have we internalized and fully understood how close we were (or are) to losing everything that is dear to us? And if we are able to wrest control once more, will we work as feverishly as the Dems have to push their ideals, to build OUR case for liberty, conservatism and Constitution-centered government?

Question two: If there is a backlash against this administration, regardless of the eligibility issue, is there a way to reverse the damage caused by “health” “care” “reform” (assuming it’s passed in the next year)? Or, the Copenhagen trip next month? What is the extent of our (we the people’s) powers?

Put another way, this Country sorely needs a mulligan… I’m just wondering how feasible is it when all is said and done? And will we have the ‘nads to fight hard to ensure this brush with everything that is anti-American never happens again?

Dying to hear what all the very smart people around have to say about it. I’ve learned a lot lurking around…

As to your first question, I’d first say that “Conservative” and “Republican” are not currently interchangeable. Now, having said that, conservativism shouldn’t need to purge the system of opposition like the socialists do (thinking of the recent OPM memo detailing the firing of GOP civil service workers). Conservatism, I think, usually wins in the marketplace of ideas, and people will gravitate towards it. Our problem is that the Republican party has A) too few conservatives, and B) even fewer who can articulate conservatism so that it enters the marketplace of ideas. I do think that should the GOP win back big, like they did in ‘94, they cannot rest. They must (and we need to make sure of this) push back and “un-do” most of what has been done to this country, going all the way back to the ’30s.

As to your second question, I saw Art Laffler (I think?) on Beck a few weeks back, and he said it would only take him a long weekend to undo what’s been done/will be done by this congress. Not sure how true that is, but given the right people, I think the legislation can be reversed. It would be painful, though, and we are much better off the less that needs to be “fixed.”

cheers

Nothing gets reversed so long as Obama holds the veto pen

And if he and the Democratic Senate manage to pack the courts, maybe irreversible when ObamaCare becomes a constitutional right.

I'll agree with most of that

I maynot have been clear; I think Laffler was referring to the legislative work that would need to be done…overriding a veto would be another hurdle, and that’s what I was getting at with my “painful” comment.

ObamaCare can’t become a constitutional right without 3/4 state’s approval, right?

I think one of the things we need to be doing whenever we can is correct people on the Constitution. An example: my cousin and I were in a conversation where she said that the Supreme Court gave us a particular right (can’t remember what we were talking about). I knew what she meant–she doesn’t really believe our rights come from the courts–but I corrected her, because it is exactly those “you know what I mean” moments that need to be corrected, so that we don’t become apathetic about our Constitution. I hope I said that clearly.

cheers

So it's possible...?

Even if the courts are packed, and the will of the people is overturned by policy-making activist judges (a la Sotomayor), is there recourse?

I believe that, what? 2/3 of the Senate can overturn a presidential veto? When “painful” was mentioned, I immediately thought financial…

On the whole, I am relieved to hear from the two responders that the sentiment of not being afforded the luxury to rest is shared… at least among a few of us… :-)

I have visions of bumper stickers: “This Country Needs a Mulligan”

"This Country Needs a Mulligan"....

It needs a whole hell of lot more then that but it certainly would be a start….btw Republican definitely does NOT equal Conservative so when I am pushing 80+ and they would be CONSERVATIVES in the Congress it will only take a few bills to KILL the “healthcare” though I very much believe WE can kill it in the Senate NOW!

It will take a few years of some SERIOUS hardcore SMALL GOVERNMENT Congresscritters to alleviate the pressure that has been put on the backs of America but it can be done!

Good first shot!
