BENGHAZI: SENATOR SLAMS OBAMA as EX CIA OFFICER OFFERS, Were Libyan Weapons a Set Up to a Cover Up?

John McCain Sets CBS Up for “Cover Up”  Story

Mainstream Media Failure

Starting with “the film made them do it” to admitting  “it was a terrorist act” to a proverbial catch-all excuse in the final week run-up to the election of, “we don’t know but we will get to the bottom of it,” the incurious mainstream press has not pushed a reticent Obama Administration to account for false narratives now considered lies by many.

What adds to the urgency to get all facts out in the open is this: the gatekeepers of democracy have succumbed almost entirely to partisanship, refusing to cover one of the hottest stories since 9/11/01. Taking sides instead of doing unbiased investigative journalism portends the end of freedom as we have known it.

And if a Commander in Chief doesn’t have his people’s back, then morale and belief by the military in their CINC suffers. I must posit one additional fact concerning national security by asking a rhetorical question:

Facing Iranian nuclear ambitions, can you imagine what the Israelis are thinking when the US President won’t even send rescue forces, on stand-by one hour away in Sicily, when their own people are under attack?

What we know is that in every “cover up” there is a hidden issue that is the ignition switch to set “spin” in motion resulting in the scandal. In this post I consider  a two part query. One, the 10/28/12 Face the Nation exchange between Senator John McCain and Bob Schieffer as McCain hammers the Obama Administration.

The second part of the investigation starts to answer McCain’s question, “What did the President know?”

The brilliant analysis is offered by former CIA officer Clare Lopez, something just starting to gather steam, and what has the possibility for a Hollywood style film scenario of guns, lies, death and scandal far beyond any Nixonian Watergate burglar bungling.

What may be, which no one wants to believe, is a cold, calculated turning the back on Americans knowing they would be killed, or a “dead men don’t talk” in a new Middle East Fast and Furious. The only other possibility is a deficit of leadership and an incompetence on a massive scale. It’s one or the other.  You decide…

PART 1

This Sunday on Face the Nation

Schieffer: What about — what about what you just said about Libya? Are you saying now that this was a deliberate cover-up coming out of the Libya, that in fact this was not what the administration said it was, but something else entirely. And that, I guess, if it was a cover-up, are you saying they did it for political reasons?

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

McCain: “I don’t know if it’s either cover-up or gross — the worst kind of incompetence, which doesn’t allow — doesn’t qualify the president as commander in chief.

“You’ve got to — the buildup to it. We knew of two attacks on our consulate. The British ambassador assassination attempt. Repeated warnings. Repeated warnings. The last message our beloved ambassador sent to us concerns about security in Benghazi. He had even voiced them to me when I was in Tripoli. Nothing was done.

“I may not expect the president to know about movement of a few people back and forth, but he certainly should have known about the deteriorating situation. And nothing was done.

“On the day of, obviously, there was no military either capability or orders to intervene in a seven-hour fight. And probably the worst of all of this, of course, is the gross, gross, outrageous statements that he made and his– I was on your program when Susan Rice came on.

“And I was slack-jawed when she went through that routine of the– that this was a spontaneous demonstration triggered by a video. We now know there was no demonstration. There was no mob. So how could intelligence community ever reach a conclusion that there was a spontaneous demonstration when there wasn’t?

“You know, this administration is very good at touting and giving all the details like when they got Bin Laden. But now, we know that there were tapes, recordings inside the consulate during this fight, and they’ve gotten– they came– the FBI finally got in and took those, and now they’re classified as “Top Secret.” Why would they be top secret?

“So the president went on various shows, despite what he said he said in the Rose Garden, about terrorist acts, he went on several programs, including The View including Letterman, including before the UN where he continued to refer, days later, many days later, to this as a spontaneous demonstration because of a hateful video. We know that is patently false.

“What did the president know? When did he know it? And what did he do about it?”  Face the Nation Transcripts Page 2

 PART 2

WEAPONS BEHIND THE COVER UP?

If a Senator McCain can’t move the needle with mainstream media like CBS News, and if the mainstream press does or does not do its job, congress, dedicated journalists and writers out of the mainstream will continue to seek answers.

From a dedicated public servant and former CIA officer comes a compelling argument for what really may be behind the Obama Administration spin now etched in electronic stone on Internet search engines.

Benghazi: The Set-Up and the Cover-Up

Tue, October 30, 2012 by: Clare Lopez

Data points continue to accumulate about the September 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya. The picture that is beginning to emerge from connecting those dots is deeply concerning on multiple levels. Two related issues dominate this analysis: The systematic stripping of security protection from the Benghazi mission prior to the 9/11 anniversary attack and the cold-blooded refusal to send or even permit local help the night of the attack.

As Fox News Bureau Chief of Intelligence Catherine Herridge suggested on the “Mike Huckabee” show on Oct. 27, both of these critical subjects may have been driven by a perceived need to cover up the likely purpose for the existence of that mission in the first place, i.e., to serve as a U.S. command hub for the movement of weapons out of Libya to Syrian rebels fighting to bring down the Bashar Al-Assad regime.

It  has now been established through the persistent work of Congressional leadership figures and such investigative journalists, media and talk show hosts  including Fox News, Michael Coren at Canada’s Sun News, Aaron Klein at World Net Daily andDiana West that the Benghazi mission played a central role in a U.S. government policy of “engaging, legitimating, enriching and emboldening Islamists who have taken over or are ascendant in much of the Middle East,” as Center for Security Policy president, Frank Gaffney, put it.

Benghazi Staffed by CIA Operatives: What Was Their Role?

According to media reporting, Benghazi was staffed by CIA operatives whose job may have been not just to secure and destroy dangerous weapons (like RPGs and SAMs) looted from former Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi’s stockpiles during and after the 2011 revolution, but also perhaps to facilitate their onward shipment to the Al-Qaeda- and Muslim Brotherhood-dominated Syrian opposition.

President Barack Obama signed an intelligence finding sometime in early 2012 that authorized U.S. support for the Syrian rebels and by mid-June 2012, CIA operatives reportedly were on the Turkish-Syrian border helping to steer weapons deliveries to selected Syrian rebel groups. According to an Oct. 14, 2012 New York Times article, most of those arms were going to “hard-line Islamic jihadists.”

A proposition holds that large-scale conspiracies do not exist because they cannot exist, because someone would talk.

I’ve never believed in this proposition. Sometimes, it’s clear, people have talked, but they’ve been widely ignored or ridiculed.

Here there is a large-scale conspiracy being carried out in plain view. Petraeus gives us an insight into the cover-up aspect of the conspiracy. Thanks to the FBI, it’s all speculation after that as to what happened and why.

    • jamesmpratt

Well put! In “Plain sight” may be the way to take conspiracy out of conspiracy so that it can be called simply “stupid” at worse.

    • Ausonius

There are a good number of government operations whose participants kept silent about them for decades. One coming to mind was Project MK Ultra, which ran for 20 years with nobody saying a word about it. Only when Watergate in the mid-1970′s forced assorted files to be opened was it discovered.

Still, incompetence and the primacy of pacifist ideology could still be the explanations for Benghazi.

But a cover-up hiding those facts is more probable than not.

      • jamesmpratt

        Good background!

      • Dave_A

        The simplest explanation fits…

Obama & his advisers are simply not competent enough to orchestrate a massive international conspiracy.

There is a ‘profile’ for the Administration when it comes to screwups – see Fast & Furious as an example… Do something stupid…. Come up with a cover-story… When the cover-story fails, get pissed off & switch on the ‘righteous indignation’… Hope it fades off TV by the time this cycle completes….

The logical explanation, is that Obama was afraid of causing an ‘International Incident’ – in the event that a military response turned into ‘Blackhawk Down II’ – that Romney could use against him in the campaign.

So they came up with the blame-it-on-the-video cover…

When that failed, they used false indignation that ‘anyone would politicize this’…

That failed, and they are now hoping it fades off the screen…

        • jamesmpratt

Good analysis. Simple probably is it.

        • Viet71

          Dave A,

You fail to follow the story here.

Consulate is attacked. Seals from CIA Annex want to help. Fight goes on for about 7 hours. Is monitored real-time by Obama and his top advisers.

No incompetence here, despite what we believe of Obama. A clear decision to sacrifice Americans.

Why? We don’t know. Adds up to conspiracy.

          • Dave_A

            I include ‘gutless-cowardice’ as a form of incompetence…

Mix gutless cowardice and self-worship in the same individual, give him authority over men in the field, and you have a recipe for this sort of disaster… I’m sure you can think of an example or two from when you were in – no, I’m not asking for them…

So without a conspiracy (unless you consider the coverup to be one)…

You have a situation where a gutless & ego-centric leader decides that it’s better to write-off a small element/let the enemy get away, than take even the smallest risk to launch a rescue mission and/or retaliatory strike.

Lives of men in the field & an opportunity to kill some rather nasty bad guys mean nothing to him – all that matters is HIS career being on the line if something goes wrong… Any risk of that is unacceptable, and if men have to die so he can keep his job (or move up) so be it…

So requests for reinforcements, air support, and for a local friendly element to provide assistance are all denied. After the fact, a story is made up that places the blame for the whole mess on someone else than our gutless leader…

The above fits Benghazi quite well… It also fits something else that I experienced personally, at some point in the past 8 years (but with someone quite a bit lower ranking than POTUS as the gutless leader)…

  • Common_Cents

There was congressional testimony that 20,000 shoulder fired anti aircraft weapons are “missing”, prob in the hands of al qaeda. Other stories are that Stevens was trying to find out the whereabouts of these weapons and was denied security detail not to call attn to himself and his mission.

Why isn’t the media talking about 20,000 missing weapons???? It was admitted in congressional testimony. 20,000 missing weapons. It is curious that we didn’t go into the building for what, two weeks? Any traces of anything were probably scrubbed.

    • jamesmpratt

Wow. Didn’t have this tidbit of info. Thanks!

      • Common_Cents

or perhaps the “missing” is the cover for diverting qadaffi weapons to syrian rebels. who knows, but there is much more to this story that is being covered up.

    • Dave_A

The media was talking about the situation related to Quadaffi’s weapons & the total lack of security back when he was first ousted from power….

The 20,000 number is what Quadaffi had back when he was in power, and they are probably all over the world – some likely in the hands of terrorists, the rest likely sold on the black market…

The West has been racing against both groups to salvage as much of Quadaffi’s arsenal as we can – however my money is on the arms-dealers/scavengers/syndicates to get their hands on most of it….

  • rbdwiggins

Why would the FBI classify the consulate tapes as Top Secret?

May I posit a question for perusal?

What are the implications for the Obama Administration if the consulate tapes show the wharehouse being looted of its alleged weapons store by the jihadists? Not the least of which implies a blown cover?

    • jamesmpratt

      1. A Middle East “Fast & Furious”
      2. Israel has transparent evidence of US unreliability against Iran. She knows she is on her own.

      • rbdwiggins

Iran/Contra and “Fast and Furious” pale in comparison to Benghazigate.

It’s my understanding that the February 17 Martyrs Brigade is responsible for the blown cover, and they simply walked away when the consulate came under attack.

For those that don’t know, the February 17 Martyrs Brigade was contracted to provide security for our diplomats in Libya.

        • Dave_A

If they’re anything like the contracted local-national security was in Afghanistan, they’re a bunch of lazy untrained idiots with rusty AKs, who’s only semi-military skill is the ability to sleep through a firefight…

    • Dave_A

The US would not be storing a large quantity of highly valuable weapons in a lightly defended warehouse, in a country like Lybia.

Even without the terrorist issue, that stuff is worth ALOT of money to criminal elements, and it does no good to collect a nice, large stockpile of weapons (for whatever purpose) if they’re just going to get stolen…

Further, there was no ‘warehouse’ at the Consulate.

As for classification of video, it all depends on what’s visible in the video & the equipment they were made with.

If the information system the ‘tapes’ (let’s just say it’s 2012 and I highly doubt the US is using VHS) were made on is marked for processing classified material, everything that touches it is classified at the highest level the system can process.

If even one photo or piece of paper visible in the video is classified, the video assumes it’s classification level.

The release/leaking of classified information does not change it’s classification level, either – as was noted back when Wikileaks was still doing their thing. The DoD made a big deal about not viewing that material on a system not cleared to process it, because even though it was leaked classified material, it still counts as classified under the regs.

Follow the links provided in the original post and come back when you actually know what you’re talking about. Unless you bring yourself up to speed, your credibility is diminished with each and every comment.

        • Dave_A

The original post references World Net Daily as a ‘source’.

          It therefore has no credibility.

          • jamesmpratt

In defense of Aaron Klein, he gets some good stuff out of the Middle East. Has some good contacts. I understand the feelings for WND, but culling information, not dismissing good resources from any website is probably wise.

  • Dave_A

Any article citing World Nutz Daily has no credibility.

    • jamesmpratt

Dave, I winced too when I saw WND as a site source, but Clare Lopez is a superb analyst, and is looking at things that make sense in spite of a website that sensationalizes. I totally get your point, but please don’t dismiss this outstanding intelligence pro. Thanks!

  • Dave_A

It should be noted that since arming the rebels in Syria is not a controversial subject in the election, there is no reason to try and hide it…

So ‘conspiracy to arm the rebels’ type lines simply make no sense. There’s no reason to have a conspiracy on that subject, if Romney says he’s going to do the same thing, and thus can’t use ‘arming the rebels’ against Obama…
