ROMNEY, TRUTH, HONOR Again Or “When Jindal, Others, and Opportunity Politics Knock — Part II”

Last week I offered Part I to a story not believing there would be a Part II.  Read on…

TODAY: The Mail Online offers:

Romney aides blast ‘hypocrites’ who asked for cabinet jobs just before election and are now trashing him

  • Presidential candidate has come under fire from Republicans after loss
  • But aides say figures like Bobby Jindal and Newt Gingrich were desperate for positions in his cabinet if he had won

A vindication of what I suspected in my Part I post earlier this week (a portion is posted below) with the link to the entire post offered here: Part I Link

November 21st Erased

Did I say something wrong? Maybe. I meant no harm, was simply musing upon courtesy, truth and honor.

Evidently my post from November 21st disappeared from the Diary box list here at RedState one day after posting it.

It could be just my imagination as “Part I” November 21st post simply wouldn’t pull up into the Diary box on any attempt after several updates.

Either way — I offer it again with this “Part II.”  I only do this because of the new, and validating information coming from the cited article at Mail Online.

AND — I cite an outstanding look and a robust debate for anyone wishing to investigate the position: Romney Was (Not) the Problem

Courtesy and Class for Conservatives 101

Look — Here’s the bottom line to me. We need courtesy.

Truth and honor are hallmarks of conservatism and most Americans instinctively know that.

The courtesy we sometimes lack moves up and down the spectrum from politicians to all of us commentators as we point fingers at each other — or as is the case with the recent election — forgetting the gracious offers of “thanks for the best you did give.”

This did not happen in public, instead we saw adults acting childish and self-important in their punditry, and as I put, “politically opportunistic.”

The GOP needs to be the party of  ”the class act,” but if their members can’t be then fellow conservatives must be.

Let the liberals be crass and ill-mannered. They are cut out for it.

Messenger Dodging Bullets

I’m all for creative messaging to gain adherents as I proposed in a post dated November 8th,  and of which so many critics of Mr. Romney and campaign have complained for two weeks.

Unaffiliated, by choice, I vote Republican, live in a conservative dominated city, county, state, and grew up in the home town of the Reagan Library, Simi Valley, CA when Reagan was my governor.   I’m Reagan through-and-through in ideals and maintain a Facebook Page in his honor.

Until the day comes that something more conservative is viable enough to compete with the GOP, I will seek to support conservatism within the GOP.

I will also seek to tell people, with whom I politically disagree, where to go so that they look forward to the trip, while seeking clarity, but no ill will.

We should be better than what was delivered to Mr. and Mrs. Romney and Mr. and Mrs. Ryan over the past two weeks; this from within our coterie of media appointed spokesmen at the highest levels;  who offered few, if any, “thank yous,” but much feigned outrage, vitriol, and indeed ill will for a supposed ally of weeks prior.

It doesn’t need to be so maniacal; the jumping upon the bandwagon of “what Romney did wrong” from the GOP gang members, hailed accurately by Rush Limbaugh and many others as “circular firing squads.”

The Post’s Message:

And that is where I got a little hot under the collar in “Part I.”

Outright distortions, lies, as was in the twisted words of George Will (Romney “despising the American people”) , and opportunistic grandstanding of two men I like in all other ways — Bobby Jindal and the very articulate and capable Newt Gingrich. (I recommend all his books, btw).

Unfortunately for them and us, they all came across as little as the liberal messengers, small minded, and petty, and it didn’t need to be. They are all talented and “big” in so many other ways.

So allow me to offer the RE-POST of what I will now call “Part II.”

Mail Online is quite a bit more forthright as to why Mr. Jindal’s and Gingrich’s nastiness was so outrageous and unworthy of them. As I said, I believed them to be bigger men that that.

PART I — PARTIAL POST FROM DIARY November 21st:

ROMNEY, TRUTH, HONOR or “When Jindal, Small Ideas, and Opportunity Politics Knock”

By: jamesmpratt (Diary)  |  November 21st, 2012 at 12:10 PM

Reason obeys itself; and ignorance submits to whatever is dictated to it.” ~ Thomas Paine

Truth and reason stand the test of time in a cause and effect relationship of applying principle for a reliable outcome.

Truth is made of stiff stuff because it is things as they really were, are, and always will be.

When truth is inconvenient the troubling temptation for political opportunists gains momentum, and they slither forth from unsuspected places, often clothed as friends.

It is disturbing, but expected when the opposition does it, but doubly harsh when erstwhile allies seek personal gain from it.

I have been disturbed for one week now at the nonsense of gainsaying members of the GOP who can’t have the decency to give Mr. Romney and his wife a well-deserved, “Thank You” but instead create empty messaged noise for the liberal media when there is “no there there.”

Ingratitude and lack of grace is an ugly thing — especially between friends

Pretty Lies or Inconvenient Truths

My honor and my life are one. Take honor from me and my life is done.” – Shakespeare

Honor in politics is rare. Romney and his wife Ann offered America a glimpse of it for a brief moment in 2012, and yet our hopes were dashed by small things and small men.

What we need is more Romney and Ryan Boy Scout oath takers no matter how silly it may seem or sound…

On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and Country…

…and not dishonorable opportunistic politics.

Self-destruction begins with embracing a lie, followed by endorsing it, ending with proclaiming it.

So it is with individuals and organizations, and for two weeks since the election so it has become with some in the GOP, at least in my mind.

To the point…

Two weeks ago the American people believed a list of pretty lies in enough numbers that just under 500,000 votes in four swing states bought the election outcome for Obama-Biden.

Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, and two other prominent conservatives, chose a path of high criticism of Mitt Romney for  his wording infractions cited last week by the press.

In short, Mr. Jindal sought political gain  by taking advantage of the political correctness game liberal progressives run.

He seemed to revel in the tearing down of a friend and ally of just two weeks prior — Mitt Romney — and in that there is no honor

Losing by just under 500k votes isnt as tiny a margin as it sounds. John Kerry lost by WAY less than that in 2004, something like 100 or 150K, I forget, as he only needed Ohio to win. And of course Gore only lost by a few HUNDRED votes. So Romney’s margin wasn’t as razor-thin as the number itself sounds. As for Jindal throwing Romney under the bus, I’m sure there’s fair arguments on either side, but its important to remember that Romney was a fake, when he was in Massachusetts he ran as a liberal, when he was running for the GOP Presidential nomination he ran as a Conservative. Was he a fake liberal, or a fake Conservative? The world may never know. Basicly he’d say anything to win, so now that the election is over I have no problem with anybody criticizing him, I’m happy to do it myself, the only thing he was supposedly good for was beating Obama, and now that he’s failed at that there’s really no reason to defend him anymore. I’m not going to defend Jindal either, let his comments stand or fall on their own merits, but certainly Romney is owed no loyalty, he was never one of us, he was just the latest Establishment man to win the GOP nomination thanks to a divided Conservative field, and quite frankly he was the worst they’ve put up so far. Even McCain, had they put him up again, could’ve beaten Obama this year, Romney was the only guy who could find a way to lose to a candidate this weak, and we’re all going to be worse off for the next 4 years because of it. So my suggestion would be don’t waste your time defending this man, spend your time defending Life, or Marriage, or Israel, or at the very least somebody who is genuinely Conservative. Just my two cents.

Kerry lost by about 3 million votes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_2004

I think he was referring to the swing states.

        • jamesmpratt

Yep per hyperlink, swing states were just under 500,000 total for Obama. They were VA, CO, FL, OH.

    • jamesmpratt

Thank you. By the way it is my conviction that Romney defended Life, Marriage, and Israel in words and deed as do I in all my writings, at all my multiple websites. His personal and public actions are open for scrutiny. Facts don’t lie. He won in a liberal state, and fiscal records do not lie – he fixed things over and over again in organizations large and small and left a surplus in Massachusetts. We owe at minimum a “thank you.” I am about conservative class, courtesy, and conviction with boldness. Our crowd spent a lot of time “telling him where to go” looking for their perfect Reagan model. I do not accept the assertion McCain or any of the other primary candidates could have beat Obama — not as we examine their ground game and vagaries of inertia in the popular American mood of “gimme my stuff.” I accept your conviction but differ with you, kindly, in many areas of fact. “Facts are stubborn things” — John Adams. Keep the faith! JMP

Well all I have is self-importance, so I don’t consider that necessarily a fault. My personal gripe is the breakdown of the “golden rule.” It shows a lack of leadership skills and statesmanship at the very least, and it leaves us sort of naked as we air all the dirty laundry in the public forum. Not exactly a picture of a Party that has it together. But I do think that an examination of the data of the election is necessary to find out what really happened and make constructive adjustments. Anything else is just knee-jerk conjecture.

    • commonsenseobserver

If everyone in politics followed the Golden Rule, Barack Obama would have resigned by now.
