In one of the more sillier “controversies” since Barack Obama became President is the one in which people question whether or not he is a Christian or a Muslim.

The issue has been settled in the minds of most people, but that doesn’t stop the media from carrying on about it for days on end whenever the subject comes up.

Donald Trump did a town hall style appearance and in the middle of it, some crank (Or a possible plant. It does happen) made mention of Obama being a Muslim. Trump did not correct him and for the last three days we have been subject once again to thise nonsense.

This naturally of course, gives the media an excuse to start asking every Republican within earshot or on camera whether or not they believe Obama is a Christian or of if he’s a Muslim.

It really shouldn’t matter but for some reason, the media has taken it upon themselves, along with assistance from the left, to declare it to be an “insult” to suggest President Obama is an Muslim.

The media will also behave as if anything other than an emphatic and resounding “Yes!” to the question of whether or not Obama is a Christian and not a Muslim is reported as the person “denying” Obama is a Christian.

STEPHANOPOULOS: You just heard Donald Trump. He’s not going to weigh on whether President Obama was born in the United States, whether or not he’s not a Muslim.

I see you shaking your head.

RUBIO: Well, I’m just tired of the — this has nothing to do with the future of our country. These issues have been discussed ad nauseum over the last few years. It’s a big waste of time. Barack Obama will not be president in a year and a half. It’s time to start talking about the future of America and the people that are at home.

And every time we spend — I mean I’m more than happy to answer your question, but every time that we discuss these sorts of things, we’re not talking about the family who’s out there trying to make it. They don’t know if they’re going to make it to Friday before a check bounces because they don’t have enough money in the — in the checking account.

I mean those are the issues I hope we’d focus on.

But I’m sorry, go ahead.

STEPHANOPOULOS: No, no, so I take it from your question you accept that President Obama was born in the United States and is not a Muslim?

RUBIO: Yes, this is — of course it…

STEPHANOPOULOS: Yes.

RUBIO: — he’s born in the United States. He’s a Christian. He’s the president of the United States for the next year and a half and we’re going to move on. This country is going to turn the page and this election needs to be about what comes next…

STEPHANOPOULOS: And also…

RUBIO: — what kind of country will we be in the 21st century?

Rubio handled the situation very well. He first made sure to tell Stephanopoulos that the issue was ridiculous and that it is not worth discussing and then made sure to answer the question just to be sure there was no controversy or follow up.

If you noticed, once Stephanopoulos got Rubio’s answer, he wanted to quickly move on. Had Rubio faltered or said “I don’t know” or “It’s not for me to say” then Stephanopoulos would have continued to press and that would have become the story, not what Rubio was attempting to outline about his vision for the country.

Other Republicans should pay attention because this will come up again at some point.
