The real unemployment rate, though, is even worse than 10.2%.  The way is was reported was changed back in 1993 under Clinton to eliminate a large number of unemployed people and make it look better.  The hidden, but still from official Bureau of Labor statistics, unemployment rate is 17.5% for October.  That exceeds the previous high of 17.1% back in December of 1982--which was the highest rate since the depths of the Great Depression (when it hit 24.6%).
