Fox News Iowa Republican Debate Review

The final debate before the Iowa Caucus took place last night on Fox News. Most of the pundents are saying that Newt got hurt some by Bachmann’s attacks, Romney did better than the last debate, and Perry did very well. We don’t totally agree.

Rick Perry & Tim Tebow

Rick Perry & Tim Tebow

1) Rick Perry did do very well. He even commented that he ‘likes’ debating now and would show up ’early’ at a debate with Obama. Perry looked at ease and much more confident in stating his positions than he has in the past. He had several lines that got very loud positive responses from the audience.

And he even compared himself to Denver Broncos Quarterback Tim Tebow suggesting he wants to be the “Tim Tebow of the Iowa Caucus” making a comeback at the last minute and take the win. For those of you that don’t know many said Tim Tebow did not have the skills to play in the NFL (some imply that about Perry and beating Obama) but he has engineered many come from behinds wins this year and has won six games in a row.

Perry should be getting better with each debate but what it kind of shows is that he did not prepare very well for his first few debates and that cost him dearly. Do we all remember he was the front runner? The other reason he is doing better now is that he has a strong message to put out (part time Congress, flat tax, dismantle Washington) and the fact that because he is NOT the front runner any longer he is not being attacked. Not being attacked makes a big difference.

2) Many say Michele Bachmann won the debate but we disagree. Yes, if you say she won because she attacked Newt Gingrich and scored some hits on him then maybe you would be right. But if you look at it from the standpoint of did she improve her standing with voters by effectively presenting her positions and  why she would make a good President we think she failed. We think she failed because her attacks were so strong and so often that is all people will remember. Some of the insiders even suggest she is just being the attack dog for Romney. Who knows if that is true but that is pretty much what it looked like last night.

3) Romney was back to his normal self. Take no chances, don’t attack anyone (which is smart because like Perry he is not very good at attacking the others and it makes him look bad), and try to just be steady. He did a good job at that and the media and Republican establishment was happy as can be with his performance compared to the last debate.

He did have one very outstanding remark when he compared what he did in business (laying off some people, closing down some businesses) to what Obama did with GM, closing down some factories, layoffs and closing dealerships to ‘save’ the company. Good analogy that should work to combat the notion he was just a cold-hearted businessman that did not care about people.

4) Newt was in the center stage position because he is leading in many polls. The moderator even commented about that and Newt joked that put him right in the middle of the cross fire. We think Newt did very well considering all the attacks he endured from Bachmann and Ron Paul. For a while it seemed like the whole debate was just going to be about attacking Newt and seeing how many kill shots the others could take on him. It was the same in the last debate and it actually seems to be working though as he is losing some in the polls. Just like with Perry and Cain, when the others (including the media) all gang up on you there will be some damage in your standings.

Newt had strong answers again as he always does. The attacks probably did a little damage but he offset that with some excellent responses on many important issues so we think he did not lose ground at all. He never lost his cool and even had moments of humor like when he said, “I don’t want to sound ‘Zany’ in my response” which was in reference to Romney calling him “Zany” last week. That was Romney’s attempt at politely calling Newt ‘crazy’.

Ron Paul Newt Gingrich Iowa Debate

Ron Paul Newt Gingrich Iowa Debate

5) Ron Paul really got animated at moments and had a confrontation with Bachmann over the issue of allowing Iran to get a nuclear weapon. Despite being in the Republican party Ron Paul is a true Libertarian. There is no problem with that except for the fact that majority of Republican voters will not support someone that believes in the type of foreign policy that he supports. He will show very well and could even possibly win Iowa but after New Hampshire he will not be a player to win any primaries. His stance on the economy, federal spending and the Federal Reserve gain a lot of support from all conservatives but then all the gains he made are lost when he talks about Iran.

6) Huntsman and Santorum seemed to be less relevant than in other debates which is not a good sign  with this being the last debate before voting actually starts. Santorum will probably do OK and surprise some people in Iowa but then he will be done. The same with Huntsman. He will do OK and surprise some in New Hampshire but then after that he will drop out due to lack of support.

This is how it looks; Newt, Romney, Paul and Perry will be the top tier candidates.

Ron Paul is included in that group just because his supporters are so loyal and committed it makes some think he can win the nomination but the majority of people think he cannot.

Perry is in the group because he is improving every day, the others are not attacking him right now, he has lots of money and his message is very popular with Republicans if they take the time to listen to it.

Newt and Romney are the true front runners and for totally different reasons. Newt is an intellectual powerhouse and can debate at a level far above the rest. We all want to see that Obama-Newt debate! You could sell tickets to it and help pay off some of the national debt! As Dick Cheney commented, “When Newt said we could win back control of the House after 40 years of Democrat rule we all thought he was crazy. But he would not give up on the idea and actually made it happen. Don’t underestimate Newt Gingrich.”

Newt is a historical figure in American politics and an expert on American history and how the government works. If he is truly committed to changing our direction and taking the country down a conservative path he is one that would actually know how to get it done. The question is if we can really take him at his word now and he won’t change.

Romney is the favorite of the Republican establishment and “they” really believe they control who will be nominated. They gave us McCain and Bob Dole and George Bush. True conservatives don’t want him but he may be the person we end up having to support in the fall of 2012 against Obama. And the bottom line is we MUST support whoever the Republican nominee is. We MUST get rid of Obama. No support for a third party this time around. It would be too risky and give Obama the White House again.

The Dilemma!

The word Dilemma according to the dictionary means, “a problem offering two possibilities, neither of which is practically acceptable.” In the race for the Republican nomination conservatives are facing a true Dilemma! Well, actually it is a problem offering more than two possibilities but that is close enough to make the point.

Conservatives so much want to support someone who REALLY represents conservative values but at the same time they want to support someone they feel will take it to Obama in a way that will be effective. The problem conservatives face is that none of the potential nominees truly are what we want.

The closest in policy may be Ron Paul but Ron Paul is probably at the bottom of the scale when talking about effectively attacking Obama in a way that the general population will take notice and vote for him. Plus, Ron Paul turns off many with his comments that September 11th may have been caused by us and that we should allow Iran to get a nuke. If Ron Paul were in Mitt Romney‘s body and still had the same views we would be in better shape with the general public. Before the Ron Paul supporters attack me for that comment please just realize it is not a dig on Ron Paul but a sad commentary on the majority of American voters.

Why do you think so many say, “Mitt Romney looks like a President” as if that should matter at all. I remember one time eating breakfast at a restaurant and there were four older people dining next to me. They looked very “well to do” and smart until I heard one of them say, “John Edwards is such a great man and will make a great President.” One of the others said, “Why do you think that?” The first man says, “Well, you can just tell how smart he is by looking at him. He is a very good looking  person.” They all agreed. Incredible but that is what we face in this country.

So who is next? Well, Newt is leading in most all the polls now. Newt is great in the debates and can no doubt go toe to toe with Obama on TV and win the day! But Newt has more baggage than any of the others and some of it will be great fodder for Obama and the media next fall. I know, I know a lot of people say that by then it will all be out in the open already and won’t have an impact but the truth is I don’t think a lot of the “middle of the road” independent voters pay any attention at all until a couple month before the general election so it will all be “new” to them.

Plus, how conservative is Newt in reality??? Sure, he sounds great right now but his recent past has a lot of ‘non’ conservative viewpoints and some of them are really hard to overlook. Just a couple (you can search for the rest) are that he many times said FDR was the greatest President of the 20th century (has he really forgotten Reagan?) and his support for the individual mandate on health insurance for many, many years. Troubling to say the least. But we all would love to see him beat up on Obama in the debates and no one else seems to be close to his skill level in that area.

Of course, there is Romney. But do I even need to talk about why a conservative would not want Romney? I remember when he was Governor of MA and came out with that law requiring people to purchase health insurance or be fined by the state. Right then I told myself I would never support him if he ran for President. (at times through the years I have said that about Newt too though!) And despite what the media says I really don’t think Romney is all that good in the debates. He seems too easy going, mild mannered and not a leader. I hate it the way he stands there with his left hand in his pocket a lot of the time. You don’t do that when you are standing in front of millions of people on TV. I am very worried he may be beat by Obama when Obama starts his class warfare theme on him. Romney IS a Wall Street guy. He is worth 300 million dollars they say and Obama and the media will make him out to be just like Gordon Gekko from the famous Wall Street movie.

Now Rick Perry. He is great lately! I love everything he is saying, part time congress would be awesome, cutting out entire government departments is perfect, states rights, and dismantling Washington DC is what we need. But is he too damaged to win now? Would Obama rip him to pieces in a debate and make him look stupid? Will the general public view him as just another slow talking Texan and it will be Obama’s chance to blame Bush again? He has the money, and he has the right ideas but many also say he is not a true conservative. Do we take our chances he will do ok in the debates against Obama and not be seen simply as another George W. Bush? Obama will tell you he is just another George Bush! We know that for sure.

Santorum might surprise everyone in Iowa. If he does not then he is finished. Bachmann is the same. Unless she gets in the top three in Iowa she is done. We can debate the merits of them but we will know in three weeks if they will remain someone we can support. Iowa will decide that for those of us in other parts of the country.

Huntsman is not someone I would consider and we will know on him after New Hampshire because he is betting everything there.

To me it is a choice between four people (assuming Santorum, Bachmann do nothing in Iowa to stay in the race), Gingrich, Perry, Paul and Romney.

Damn Newt!!!!

You are making it impossible for me to NOT reconsider voting for you in the republican primary. Initially, my opinion was that there was no chance that you win the Republican primary. But lately you appear to be the only one that I have confidence in and dadgummit, I now have to reconsider voting for you. Your performance in the debate last night in Michigan was magnificent! When you put that liberal woman moderator Maria Bartiromo in her place, I jumped off of my couch just like I did when my favorite college football team (Florida Gators) won their national championships. I’m still giddy about it.

That being said, I have to get by a few dumb things you have done over the years. Number one, that stupid commercial with Nancy Pelosi regarding Global Warming. You have answered that for me. Luckily I had the opportunity to meet you in Las Vegas and asked you, “What the hell where you thinking?” You very humbly answered; I wasn’t and further stated that it was one of the biggest mistakes I have made. I accept that and appreciate your honesty.

Second, I had some concern about your stance on the Second Amendment. Once again, I was able to ask you your position on the Second Amendment; you stated “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. PERIOD.” Then you said again and emphasized “AND SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. Nothing to debate there.” Another concern answered. That fully supports my position too.

Three, your position on the healthcare mandate. You said you have decided upon further review that a mandate on healthcare is not a good idea and Obamacare should definitely be repealed. Once again, I am satisfied with that answer.

Four, how you answer the questions that will be raised about your ex-wife will be interesting to me but not a deal killer, as I have two ex-wives myself. I myself have matured and grown enormously since that time as I’m sure you have. You say that you have reconciled with God and I accept that. Nobody is perfect and I won’t hold that against you.

When the Republican Primary process started, I watched and waited to see which candidate would stand out and this is my observation so far.

Let’s start with Mitt Romney. To me he is just a slightly better than Obama. Way too liberal for me. With Mitt, the car is still going to go over the cliff, just not as fast as it will with Obama. He is just as bad as or worse than McCain. So, I only vote for him if he is the last man standing and is the Republican nominee.

When Rick Perry announced, I was really excited and jumped on his train. Unfortunately, he astonishingly fell off of his own train going 100 MPH. Not saying I can’t get behind him again, but a lot of things will have to come together.

Herman Cain. I like him a lot but there is the one “9″ in his 999 plan that keeps me from supporting him. The national sales tax is a deal killer for me.

Michelle Bachman. I really like her a lot. There is almost nothing that she says that I disagree with. I can’t understand why her poll numbers are so low. She is a really good conservative.

Rick Santorum, same as Michelle Bachman. The only difference is, he seems upset that the voters are not taking him more seriously and that may turn some people off. But he also is a really good conservative.

Ron Paul. I agree with about 90% of his positions. I am just not quite the isolationist he is. I would definitely support him if he were the nominee.

Jon Huntsman. He worked for Obama and said Obama is a “Remarkable Leader”. Anybody that even remotely thinks that, gets NO consideration from me.

So, what am I to do? Right now I would say Newt is in the lead for me. What say You?

Crist, Rubio Spar at Local GOP Fundraiser

Crist, Rubio Spar at Local GOP fundraiser

This is from my hometown. I am a Rubio supporter. We need to publicize more and more of this kind of news coverage. The more people in Florida learn about Rubio, the better chance we have to defeat the RINOs and then the Marxist Democrats.

Crist is a loser McCain Republican. He is supported by all of the democrat-lite Republicans in our party. It’s time we purge these spineless cowards out of our party for good.

http://www.gainesville.com/article/20091106/ARTICLES/911061014/1118?Title=Crist-Rubio-spar-at-local-GOP-fundraiser

My favorite Rubio Quotes:

“It’s very simple: We already have a Democratic Party in America,” he said. “We do not need two Democratic parties in America.”

“We know that government spending does not stimulate our economy, especially money that is borrowed and printed,” he said.

Crist actually defended his position on taking the stimulus money.

Crist also said that every Republican Governor in America took the stimulus money. Is that true? I thought some Republican Governors rejected it.

It’s time for the next Reagan Revolution!!! Bring it on Baby!!!

Letter I Wrote to Senator John Cornyn Regarding the 2010 Florida Senate Race

Hi,

Below is a letter I wrote to Senator John Cornyn, the leader of the NRSC regarding the 2010 Florida Senate race. Wouldn’t it be great if he got a few more letters like this? Hint. Hint.

Dear Senator Cornyn,

It is my understanding that the NRSC has endorsed Charlie Crist as its choice for the Republican candidate for Senator in Florida for 2010. How can you endorse anybody at this point? We the people of Florida have not spoken yet. There are many of us in Florida, (probably more than you want) that will vote for Marco Rubio. You may be surprised, but Crist might not be the choice of the people of Florida. Do you want another NY-23 on your watch? How embarrassing it would be for the NRSC.

On the front page of the NRSC website, there is a map of the United States. If you click on Florida, a page with comes up with George LeMieux and Bill Nelson with Charlie Crist right below George that says he will be next. Can you get anymore pompous ass than that? How do you know the choice of the people of Florida will be Charlie Crist? Maybe Florida’s choice will be Marco Rubio. You are making a big mistake assuming that Crist has it wrapped up at this point.

You said this to Glenn Thrush with Politico.

“As far as what’s happening in specifically Florida — we made a decision to endorse Gov. Crist at his request. But we’e really not involved in the primary,” Cornyn told Manu. “That’s up to the voters in Florida.”

“at his request”. Are you kidding me? Well, I request that you endorse Marco Rubio. Why is Charlie’s request any more important or relevant than mine?? Huh??

As a Florida Republican, I demand that you remove the picture of Charlie Crist from the web page mentioned above OR include the other Republican candidates that are also running.

This is an absolutely stupid blunder by the NRSC and you as the leader should be embarrassed. I would fix it if I were you, this speaks to your leadership and rest completely on your shoulders.

There are millions upon millions of us that are sick and tired of RINOs. I can assure you that we will be heard from, from now on.

Sincerely,

Jim

Letter I Wrote to Newt Gingrich after his Face the Nation Appearance

The following is a letter I wrote to Newt Gingrich after his appearance on Face the Nation this past weekend. I am very upset and disappointed about what he said.

######################################################################

Dear Newt,

First let me say, I AM A TRUE REAGAN CONSERVATIVE!!

I take offense to what you said this weekend on Face the Nation regarding the direction the Republican Party. Colin Powell is not a Republican or Conservative and for you to equate him with Dick Cheney is very disturbing to me. Powell is nowhere near the American Dick Cheney is. Powell made his choice with his vote for Obama, he is a Socialist and the enemy. Cheney is definitely not a Socialist. We do not need so called Republicans like Powell in the Republican Party. Republican’s like Powell, Snow, Collins, Ridge, and thank God FORMER Republican Spector is what is wrong with the Republican Party. You and other Republican leaders need realize so called Republicans like Powell are not good for the Republican Party and more importantly for the millions of Reagan conservatives. I was a huge fan of yours until your statements on Face the Nation. I thought you might be the only hope for us Reagan Conservatives. I am deeply disappointed.

If you were a true Reagan Conservative, you would have had the BALLS to say to Harry on Face the Nation, The Republican Party IS a big tent, we have very broad values and beliefs that are based on the principals put forth by our founding fathers and principals contained in the Constitution. If somebody doesn’t agree with these principals, maybe they need to look for another party that is more in line with their views. We are not excluding anybody; we want to represent people that believe in the values and principals that our Country was founded upon, Freedom, Liberty, the pursuit of happiness and real capitalism.

If Republican leaders like you continue to succumb to the pressure of the enemy, including liberal media to be moderate, the Republican Party is doomed. Appeasing the enemy will not work. Until you and other Republican leaders realize that we are in a War equal that of WWII, our Country as we knew it is over. The enemy (Socialism/Communism/Marxism) will prevail.

As of now the enemy is winning, they have even convinced you to be afraid them. I’m tired of all you spineless Conservatives. FIGHT DAMMIT! We Conservatives have your back. We will be there for you if you just fight to win.

Reagan fought hard for the Conservative values we hold so dear. Why aren’t you? The Republicans and especially you can not win without conservatives like me and if you continue to alienate voters like me by trying to appease the media and the enemy, the Conservatives will never regain power again.

I will not support another Republican like McCain. That just slows the death of our Country. If America is going to fall, let’s get it over with. Then and only then will the ignorant and apathetic Americans that allowed it to happen realize what they have done. The only problem with that is, we will really have to fight to take back America.

I and millions of other Conservative Americans are ready to fight and I mean fight hard for somebody that will finally stand up and fight along side of us for the Reagan Conservative principals this Country so desperately needs. All we need is a leader. I thought it was you, but I guess I was wrong.

God I miss Ronald Reagan.

God Bless Us All,
