Yesterday, Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-CA), ranking member of the House Appropriations Committee, submitted a motion that would have instructed members of the House/Senate conference finalizing the “stimulus” bill to make the final conference agreement available online “in an electronic, searchable, and downloadable form for at least 48 hours” before the House and Senate took their final votes on the borrow-and-spend monstrosity.
236 Democrats voted in favor of the motion. Not one voted against it.
Despite this, House Democrats are preparing to ignore the motion they voted for in order to pass this spending bill as quickly as possible.
A House contact told me via email:
[The motion to instruct] is not legally binding – motions to instruct are often ignored by Democratic conferees – but that is primarily because they believe they can get away with doing so in the court of public opinion.
The bottom line is that they all voted for it yesterday, and if they opt to ignore it today by refusing to allow a 48-hour online review before a vote, it is because they are betting that their duplicity will not be noticed by their constituents.
That sounds about right for this crowd.

of course they will (chuckle)...

If ANY Congressional member votes on this
candoo2 (dkos funluvn1) Wednesday, February 11th at 6:33PM EST (link)bill prior to the required “48 hours” in Congressman Lewis’ amendment, they should be called out individually and reprimanded for not following proceedure.
Perhaps by doing so, there will be more of an eye towards real transparency from our Congress in the future.
I’m willing to chastise my representatives if this happens.
I make crude sexual jokes about conservatives.

builder20 Wednesday, February 11th at 6:44PM EST (link)I am a bedtime thinker, once my mind stops going it cant freaking stop. I have been chewing on ways how to really get the economy going that can be acceptable to both sides of the debate. I for one am for the complete removal, for the next year or so, of the Federal income tax. If possible all fuel taxes as well. The problem with this argument is that those who are currently unemployed would see no benefit to this strategy. Thus the Liberals reject it out of hand, but what if….
What if every time a business ADDS a worker to their workforce that business can take a FULL tax deduction for that employees salary? And KEEP that yearly tax deduction of the employee for every year that employee remains employed for the next 3 years or so?
With Federal income tax removed for the individual people can pay down debt, invest, and maybe even buy some stuff. With a HUGE incentive for small, medium, and large businesses to hire and KEEP employees that are basically cost neutral but multiply productivity I believe things would start moving again. FAST!!!
This plan could be implemented TOMORROW! Who do I need to call to get this idea out there to the general populace?????
builder20- please explain
Scope Wednesday, February 11th at 7:17PM EST (link)The Federal income tax deducted from employees paychecks are paid to the feds, there are no employer matches involved. If you mean FICA taxes, or what some refer to as payroll taxes, ( Social Security and Medicare), the employer matches those taxes dollar for dollar. That would save the employee and the employer tax payments. Currently you are taxed at the rate of 6.2% for Social Security taxes, and, 1.45% for Medicare taxes. The employer also is taxed 7.65% for the match. That would mean a more significant increase in paychecks if the government would give a holiday on these taxes. If you earn $1,000. per week, you would save $76.50 per week, as well as the employer saving the same. Of course, these 2 entitlements are in trouble anyway, so fat chance it would ever be approved.
sorry, it's late/early here...
builder20 Wednesday, February 11th at 7:37PM EST (link)What I meant is, if a business adds a new employee at a salary of $30,000 a year then that business could deduct 30,000 dollars of Taxes otherwise paid to the Federal Government. Businesses could essentially remove all Federal Taxes they have to pay in a year, and at the same time increase productivity. To KEEP those new hires employed until the economy becomes more stable offer the New Employee tax deduction for around 3 years. ALL businesses, no matter the size, would benefit from that idea.
Eliminate personal Federal Income tax, and it helps the little guys.
Create the New Employee tax deduction and not only are business owners happy, but those who have no job would find themselves one, and FAST! I believe that would give everyone the moral boost needed to pull out of this mess.
Thank you Congressman Price

Representative Price, thank you for standing in front of Cruella Pelosi’s office to make your statement. We need more and more of these types of statements from all of the Republicans. McConnell and Boehner take note, and follow suit, otherwise get out of the way of those that are willing.

Fred Maidment Wednesday, February 11th at 10:15PM EST (link)…will tell everyone about this! CNN, MSNBC, FNC, CNBC, CBS, ABC, NBC, PBS, NPR, the AP and Reuters are all clamoring to be the first to report the violation of this policy!
Oh, wait…
We’re talking about a Democrat sponsored bill.
FNC might mention it for 20 seconds after talking about Natalie Holloway, Lindsey Lohan and Michael Phelps for six hours straight.
Never mind…
