Will President Obama Keep His Word on ‘Stimulus’ Transparency, or Was That Just Another ‘Ethics’ Lie?

We’ve already seen House Democrats unanimously approve, and then completely ignore, a resolution calling for the $800 billion so-called “stimulus” bill to be made available in final form to the American public for 48 hours before a final vote was taken on it. The American people ended up getting no time, and Congress itself only got ten hours — from 11pm Thursday night, when the conference report was released, until 9am, when floor action commenced — to review the 1,073-page final document.

Now, the ball of “keeping your word on transparency” is in President Obama’s court. During his campaign, Obama promised that he “will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days.”

PolitiFact.com, which is keeping track of Obama’s action on over 500 campaign promises, has already moved this one to the “promise broken” column because, well, he directly violated that claim on the first two bills he signed after taking office.

Here’s another chance to live up to your word, President Obama. How about it? Do you have a shred of integrity in your body somewhere?

I guarantee he calls this an emergency bill.

How SCHIP and the Lilly Ledbetter Act qualified as emergency and flouted that rule…?

Beats me.

As long as Obama senses that they’ll look the other way when he does these things—he’ll continue to do these things. If I were him, I would. I mean, if you know you’ll get away with it, why wouldn’t you do it?

(Exhibit A: disabling the automated fraud detection features on his campaign’s credit card donation site. Boy…the MSM got really frosted over that, didn’t they?)

But, we shouldn't be surprised...the MSM has moved on

Long ago, they realized that conservatives think they’re biased. They then decided they didn’t care, and began to write for/market to liberals.

In 2008, it really sank in how far the MSM has gone left. Their treatment of Porkulus just underlined it.

They no longer care about earning our respect.

You explained to me why in the $@#% Senator Government felt it imperative to harangue us that this is the end of the universe!

I get it, now.

Something the press needs to do..

$peciallist Friday, February 13th at 10:16PM EST (link)

EVERY single press conference…..

“Mr. President….why didn’t you give the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days….like you PROMISED?”

“Mr. President…why do you keep breaking your promises?”

Keep your eyes on the Pressers…..they will not resemble anything you’ve seen….I wonder if the ‘Chattering Class’ will notice?

of NRO who said last spring, “All of Obama’s statements come with an expiration date. All of them.”

As do his kind words about Gregg, although it will be surrogates who do the savaging of elected individuals (Obama will disparage Rush and conservative pundits personally).

As to $peciallist’s hope that the press would hold Obama’s feet to the fire on these issues, good luck! Notice how Obama filibusters at his own press conferences, and offers questions to out-of-the-mainstream leftists like Helen Thomas and the Huff Post, ignoring anyone who has been anything close to critical (save the token Jake Tapper). His long and evasive non-answers effectively cut down the number of questions he must entertain.

When JFK pioneered the “live TV” Presidential press conference, he took some 35 questions in 45 minutes, and gave clear and succinct - and often witty - answers. Obama took 13 questions in an hour and droned on and on without shedding much light on any of the subjects.

He’s a liar and his word means nothing, but he “won” so he must be allowed to do as he pleases. When arrogance, dishonesty, and stupidity get together, it doesn’t bode well for America’s immediate future.

You must be joking

So there are links to the bill and also a form to post your comments here:

Although I will take the time to make my thoughts known, I’m fairly confident that they’ll fall on deaf ears just like they did for my two Democratic senators from Wisconsin.

Not that it did much good, but I am lucky.

Both of my senators and my representative voted ‘No.’ It must be because as a state we are so close to being at the bottom of the barrel in so many of those lists loved by the left. Somehow, the media getting no credit, we seem to know the difference between opinion and fact, and hate stepping in the BS!

Regarding your headline question...

itrytobenice Saturday, February 14th at 3:11PM EST (link)

Ummm. No.

Next question please. And for that I turn to the Puffington Host.

The problem with America is stupidity. I’m not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don’t we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
