Spokesman for Obama White House: ‘People are Showing Up to Events with Swastikas, Dressed Up as Hitler’

See it for yourself below, as Bill Burton, a spokesman for Barack Obama’s White House, says:

I don’t think that Speaker Pelosi was just claiming that people were wearing swastikas [at health care town hall meetings]; people are showing up to events with swastikas, dressed up as Hitler, with signs invoking Nazi Germany, so that’s not something that’s being made up.

The DC Examiner‘s David Freddoso tried to run down this claim, and hit a stone wall:

White House spokesman Bill Burton’s statement on television earlier today that people are showing up at health care town halls dressed up as Hitler was outlandish enough that I had to call the White House and ask if there is anything to substantiate it.

As of this evening, the White House has offered no explanation for this bizarre claim.

By the way, the laugher line of Burton’s interview was the seven-word claim, “We’re trying to have a constructive debate.”

Calling your opponents a dangerous mob of swastika-wearing Hitlers and calling out SEIU thugs to beat them into submissive silence (not to mention setting up an informant tipline by which those who question Obama’s health plan in “casual conversation” can be turned in to the government) is one heck of a way to “have a constructive debate,” there, Bill. Well done.

UPDATE: According to The Hill, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has now taken to referring to those who question Obamacare as “evil-mongers.” Classy, Senator.

    Megan, I just want you to know that we’re always behind free speech

    Meanwhile, in your head, you’re finishing the sentence for him, “As long as that speech agrees with us.”

    I mean, c’mon, is calling the opposition a mob, berating them as invoking Nazi Germany, and asking for “fishy” emailers to be reported really the way you show how much you value free speech.

    to think about all his stupid sayings in 2010. I look forward to renewed House and watching Pelosi hand over the gavel and Reid heading home. I don’t believe we will win enough Senate seats to take that gavel but beating Reid will make the Senate races interesting for me personally.

    Perhaps these swastikAHs, Nazi symbolism, and people dressed up as Obama Hitler are just in a spectrum normal people can’t see. The White House, with the vast technological apparatus of the DoD, DHS, FBI, CIA, and DNC, has the equipment to pick it up.

    But they can’t reveal where, because it’s classified.

    There is too much of a coincidence between democrats claiming of swastikas and hitler references to the increase in seeing these images. Before Pelosi mentioned it the only swastika I saw was one with a giant ‘no’ sign over it. Now that rep has that painted on his sign and we are seeing images of Obama with Hitler mustaches. (Never mind the left did this like crazy to Bush, to Israel also).

    I’m calling false flag.

    I would like to think that no matter what side you’re on in this, you’d have to agree that the level of rhetoric has spun completely out of control.

    Both sides are effectively claiming the other side has triggered Godwin’s Law and thus lost the debate, but at this point I say that’s irrelevant. What does matter is that things need to SLOW DOWN and COOL OFF before someone gets killed.

    Unfortunately, our President is still of a mindset that there’s only one direction to go, and that’s headlong forward. Until and unless that changes, this can only end badly.

    …anyone opposing them with a “monger”? “War-monger”, “fear-monger”, “hate-monger”: I mean pick a negative word and add monger to the end. Senator Harry ran out of mongerisms (or just got lazy) so he went for an undefinable “evil-monger”. Ha! What, “birth-monger”, “bush-monger”, or “insurance-monger” has already been spoken for? Would Reid be considered a “label-monger”?

    Hmmm…I wonder if I could add a word after every lefty cause or interest (“environmental”, “media”, “government”, “handout”, etc)? I can think of one right now…it rhymes with “door”. It’s a heck of a lot more specific and accurate.
