What’s the Matter with Kansas?
By: Jeff Emanuel (Diary) | February 17th at 12:00 PM |
Faced with a shortage of funds this year and unwilling to cut the bloated state budget, Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius is planning to welsh on the state’s debt to taxpayers who overpaid in 2008 and to put a hold on paychecks owed to state employees until the Republican-controlled state legislature allows her to break state law by borrowing hundreds of millions of dollars from already | Read More »

Democrat Leaders Hold Midnight Meeting, Freeze GOP out of “Stimulus” Negotiations
By: Jeff Emanuel (Diary) | February 11th at 10:48 AM |
This morning, a very senior contact within the House GOP informed me that Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Harry Reid (D-NV) met at length last night to put together the House/Senate conference report on the “stimulus” package. Only Democratic conference committee members were informed of the meeting and permitted to attend. The purpose behind the meeting was apparently to produce a conference report on the over | Read More »
McConnell: GOP in Danger of Becoming “Regional” Party, Must Move Leftward
By: Jeff Emanuel (Diary) | January 30th at 08:00 PM |
Mitch McConnell has spent a decent amount of time in the last week speaking about “his path to a “post-partisan” era,” which involves, in his eyes, “both sides…reject[ing] their party’s extremes and govern[ing] from the middle.” Doing this will somehow, according to the Senate Minority Leader, reverse the GOP’s current course toward being “a regional party.” Amidst all the bipartisan, permanent-minority mumbo-jumbo, MCConnell has stumbled | Read More »
The Spokesman and The Leader
By: Jeff Emanuel (Diary) | January 30th at 05:57 PM |
Over at the Arena, Democratic strategist Lanny Davis had some interesting comments about the RNC Chairman’s race. He said: Michael Steele was positively my last preference for RNC Chair — since he was, and is, by far, the most effective, articulate center – right voice of the Republican Party, with a firm but friendly manner on TV and, thus, the best possible choice for the | Read More »
The House GOP Made the Democrats Own the Stimulus
By: Jeff Emanuel (Diary) | January 28th at 06:36 PM |
Update: Drudge agrees: *** They chose…wisely. The final vote was 244-188, with 177 Republicans and 11 Democrats voting against (1 GOP member had to leave early). The Democrats passed the bill, but couldn’t keep their caucus together — and the GOP managed to keep every single member in line. Well done, Reps. Boehner, Cantor, and the rest of the House Republican caucus.

Rasmussen released a poll yesterday that found 61% of Americans say Congress “should vote on offshore drilling [for oil] right now.” The report said: Six out of 10 Americans (61%) say Congress should return to Washington immediately to vote on lifting the ban on offshore oil drilling, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. But voters overwhelmingly expect Congress to adjourn this year | Read More »

Rep. Mike Conaway checks in from the Capitol, where he is participating in the Republican refusal to go on paid vacation while America is in a growing energy crisis.
House Republicans Returning to Capitol Hill Tomorrow to Continue Energy Debate while Democrats Enjoy Paid Vacations
By: Jeff Emanuel (Diary) | August 3rd at 02:48 PM |
A number of Republicans will be taking to the floor tomorrow, despite the fact the House is officially in a five-week recess, to continue what Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) is calling a “historic effort to free Americans for generations to come from dependence on foreign oil.” Last Friday’s spontaneous uprising garnered both media attention and the ire of Democrat leaders, who responded to the GOP’s | Read More »
Looking back on the House GOP sit-in
By: Jeff Emanuel (Diary) | August 2nd at 01:30 PM |
When the Democrats canceled yesterday’s scheduled debate on solutions to the energy crisis, voted for early adjournment, and fled the Beltway for their posh five-week paid vacation destinations, they had no idea the House floor, in their absence, would be turned into the location of a rousing symbolic action by their GOP counterparts. When wind of the growing protest reached the Speaker’s office, Nancy Pelosi | Read More »

Bishop just gave an impassioned speech as to why high energy prices affect the poor. High energy prices for the rich are “just a nuisance” but the poor can’t afford food. Harry Reid schooled by “far right rogue” yet again
By: Jeff Emanuel (Diary) | July 28th at 05:02 PM |
“The only argument Reid could muster against Coburn…was a pathetic claim that the Senate does not actually spend federal money, but only authorizes funding.” “Senator Train Wreck,” also known as Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK), was the subject of two not-so-fawning stories this morning — one in the New York Times and one in the Washington Post — addressing both his reputation as a stickler on | Read More »
