The Journal Endorses Jeff Duncan (Cand, SC03)

Duncan for South Carolina’s 3rd District

by The Journal

The Journal gives its endorsement to Jeff Duncan in the Republican primary race for the 3rd Congressional District, U.S. House of Representatives. Duncan is running in a crowded field of candidates, but he has distinguished himself in the S.C. House since 2002 as a leader with the vision to represent South Carolina’s 3rd District in Washington. Now, more than any time in many decades, men and women of vision and integrity are needed in the halls of Congress. Duncan can be a voice to help direct the United States back toward the course of fiscal conservatism, limited government and strength and respect in the world.

Organizations such as the National Federation of Independent Businesses and the Club for Growth do not bestow their praise on legislators without much research and deliberation. Duncan has won accolades from both, receiving an A+ rating from the Club for Growth and the Guardian of Small Business Award from the NFIB.

An avid interest in the appropriate conservation of South Carolina’s wildlife and natural resources led Duncan first to membership and then the chairmanship of the S.C. House’s Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs Committee. He received the South Carolina Wildlife Federation’s Legislator of the Year Award in 2007 for his work in that area.

Duncan’s roots run deep in the 3rd District, giving him uncommon perspective on the issues that face everyday people and businesses. He is the president and CEO of his own company, J. Duncan Associates, a real estate marketing firm specializing in real estate auctions. His travels dealing with people in the midst hard times and others who are thriving gives him a unique perspective among the 3rd District candidates about what Washington should and should not do to help South Carolina and the nation back to full economic health.

Perhaps Duncan’s most striking qualification is a very simple one: he carries a copy of the U.S. Constitution in his pocket at all times. South Carolina deserves a representative who holds that document dear. We recommend him to you.

Secure our Borders, Enforce our Laws Tour Recap

Hey guys,
“Wow.”  That’s all I can say to describe yesterday’s “Secure our Borders, Enforce our Laws” tour of the upper part of the Third District.  We had stops in Seneca, Liberty, Greenwood, Clinton, and held a rally in Anderson.  We called into several radio stations, and did an in station interview.  But most importantly, we listened to the concerns of the voters of South Carolina.
The people made their voices load and clear yesterday, and they asked for just a few simple things from their government.
  1. Secure our borders
  2. Enforce our immigration laws
  3. No amnesty. Period
I plan to fight for these ideals if I’m elected to Congress, and I am proud to be endorsed by Jim Gilchrist, the founder of the Minuteman Project.
In more disappointing news, the second leg of our “Secure our Borders, Enforce our Laws” tour was set to begin today (Tuesday, May 25th) at the Stoplight Deli in Aiken. Unfortunately, conflicts with Mr. Gilchrist’s schedule have forced us to change our plans, but we are planning on holding a meeting in Aiken to discuss this topic soon.
Again, thanks so much for all your support of our campaign.  We’re two weeks out from the primary, so we need all the help we can get if we are going to be successful to carrying our consistent conservative message forward!!!
Jeff

Secure our Borders, Enforce our Laws tour

Jeff Duncan and Minuteman Project founder, Jim Gilchrist, will be traveling the 3rd Congressional District Monday and Tuesday (May 24th & 25th) on the Secure our Borders, Enforce our Laws tour.

In Congress, Jeff will fight for enhanced border protection systems and disrupt all attempts to grant any form of amnesty to illegals. Enforcing our immigration laws and securing our borders must be a top priority in the next Congress.

Come out and show your support for securing our nations’ borders and demand action against illegal immigration from Washington.

Independence Caucus Endorses Jeff Duncan

Hey folks,

I was proud to have earned the endorsement of the Independence Caucus this week. The Independence Caucus was started by volunteers working to elect Jason Chaffetz to Congress in 2008. Tired of the unsustainable spending and growth in Washington, iCaucus fights to elect candidates who will faithfully represent and actively listen to their constituents.  Below is an excerpt from the official endorsement.

The Independence Caucus carefully chooses candidates based on an extensive vetting process, and after running the gambit, Jeff Duncan, can now count himself as one of Independence Caucus’ family.

Jeff plans to continue his crusade against big government and higher taxes in Washington, and believes that South Carolinians have a right to be upset over the irresponsible growth they have seen in recent years.  His support for businesses and job creation has earned him the “Guardian of Small Business Award” from the National Federation of Independent Businesses, and Jeff hopes to bring his pro-jobs record to Washington.  Achieving energy independence should be a top national security and economic priority for the United States, and South Carolina’s third congressional district is poised to help lead the way.  Jeff looks forward to stirring up Washington with the same enthusiasm for fiscal responsibility as the tens of thousands of South Carolinians have showed recently during the Tea Party Movement. He will ensure that America honors its commitment to our veterans, and that our combat and support troops have the proper tools and equipment to accomplish their objectives and return safely. Illegal immigration is a major problem in this country and a direct threat to our national security. Jeff has been a strong advocate in the State House for strengthening and enforcing immigration laws and will continue his fight in Washington. Jeff is opposed to any form of amnesty.

“We here at the Independence Caucus are proud to announce our endorsement of this great and Principled Candidate for Congress in the State of South Carolina, Jeff Duncan.

Rep. Jeff Duncan is Chairman of the South Carolina House Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Environmental Affairs Committee. He is a life-time member of the NRA, and is one of eleven candidates in the nation, along with Sen. Jim DeMint to be endorsed by the Club for Growth. He is currently running for United States Congress in South Carolina’s Third Congressional District. www.JeffDuncan.com.

As you know we are in the home stretch of the campaign. Our message of limited government, lower taxes, and secure borders has energized voters from all across the district. But in these final weeks I need your help. Please reply to this email with your contact information or fill out the volunteer form on our website (click here) in order to help propel us across the finish line on June 8th. We need volunteers to operate phone banks, place signs, help with mailers and lots more. Even if you only have a few hours to give, I would greatly appreciate your time and effort.

If you can’t give your time or labor, I ask that you consider making a contribution to my campaign. We have a safe and secure online processing system here. With your contribution in these final weeks, we will have the resources to take back America and end all of the “POR” policies (Pelosi, Obama and Reid) we see coming out of Washington.

I thank you again for all your support and look forward to seeing you on the trail.

Jeff Duncan Campaign Surges

from the GarnetSpy.com and reposted at JeffDuncan.com

Earlier this week, fellow blogger Earl Capps joined The Spy in promoting the candidacy of South Carolina State Representative Jeff Duncan for the state’s Third Congressional seat.

“With a conservative voting record in the State House, Duncan will help a growing House Republican membership get back to the conservative and ethical principles which, when abandoned by the House GOP leadership, cost them their Congressional majority. Republican congressmen like Jeff Duncan will help regain the majority – and provide the consistent commitment to ethics and principles needed to keep it – which is why Third District voters should vote for him in the upcoming Republican Primary.”

That wasn’t the only good news for the campaign this week.  Duncan won – overwhelmingly – a straw poll at a Third District Congressional debate last night in Aiken.

  • Jeff Duncan 49%
  • Mike Vasovski 19%
  • Richard Cash 13%
  • Joe Grimaud 10%
  • Rex Rice 9%
  • Neal Collins 3%

Now, straw polls aren’t scientific nor are they conclusive, but the margin Duncan garnered and the distance between him and the second place candidate cannot be ignored.

But possibly the biggest news for Jeff Duncan this week was the April 16 endorsement of his candidacy by former Senator Fred Thompson of Tennessee.

“With Jeff, what you see is what you get.  Jeff Duncan is a consistent conservative whose beliefs don’t change with shifting political winds.  Jeff Duncan doesn’t need a poll to show him how to vote, and his beliefs don’t conveniently change when it’s an election year.  When Jeff votes, he simply follows the Constitution of the United States of America.”

I can almost see and hear Fred saying this.  Leaning forward in a high-backed leather chair, puffing on a cigar and, in that distinctive baritone and an almost “gee whiz” manner, schooling us on Duncan’s qualifications.

AND, as Senator Thompson noted in his endorsement, Jeff Duncan is one of only 11 candidates in the country to be endorsed by the Club for Growth.

“Jeff Duncan is the kind of pro-growth, fiscal reformer who would help change Congress the moment he is sworn into office.  He has an outstanding record in the South Carolina General Assembly, consistently voting to lower taxes, limit government, and expand individual liberty.  And even more impressive than Jeff’s record of service is his history of leadership on issues like spending reform and school choice, even when it meant standing up for principle against his own party leaders.”

All this – and more – is testimony not only to Jeff Duncan’s personal popularity, but a clear message to candidates for all offices that integrity and legislative record are important to voters.

At this pace, Jeff Duncan will likely win the Republican primary outright on June 8.  But he won’t admit that or even entertain such a notion.  My understanding of him is that Duncan takes nothing for granted (voters) and never quits a fight.

Not bad attributes for someone representing you in Congress.

Fred Thompson Endorses Jeff Duncan SC03

Former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee today gave his endorsement for the Republican 3rd Congressional District nomination to Jeff Duncan, calling him a no-nonsense leader who will “shake up the Washington establishment the moment he is sworn into office.”

Thompson, a lawyer, actor and 2008 GOP presidential candidate, added his endorsement to that of the fiscally conservative grassroots Club for Growth, and former Congressional competitor State Senator Shane Massey.

“Jeff is a fiscal conservative champion, which is why he is one of only 11 candidates in the nation along with Sen. Jim DeMint to be endorsed by the Club for Growth,” Thompson said. “And let me tell you, Jeff wasn’t placed on a national short list of leading fiscally conservative candidates just for voting right.”

Duncan, a Laurens businessman, is a four-term state House of Representatives member and chairs the Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Environmental Affairs Committee.

Thompson said, “With Jeff, what you see is what you get.

‘Jeff Duncan is a proud Christian, husband, father, and small business owner,” Thompson said. “In South Carolina, Jeff has been named a ‘Guardian of Small Business’ and a ‘Tax Payer Hero.’  Jeff is also proud of his 100 percent pro-life voting record, his lifetime membership in the NRA, and being one of the loudest critics in South Carolina against Cap & Trade.”

Describing Duncan as a rising star in the conservative movement, Thompson cited Duncan’s sponsorship of an alternative state budget in 2009 that reduced South Carolina’s debt by eliminating wasteful spending and shifting state government’s priorities.

“I’m honored to be endorsed for Congress by such proven conservatives as Sen. Thompson and Sen. Shane Massey.  They are representative of the support we a building in every corner of the Third District.”

Fred Thompson’s full statement:

Dear South Carolina,

South Carolina’s Third Congressional District needs to send a no nonsense leader to Washington, and that leader is Jeff Duncan.  Jeff Duncan is a proud Christian, husband, father, and small business owner, who currently represents South Carolina in the State House where he serves as Chairman of the House Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Environmental Affairs Committee.

With Jeff, what you see is what you get.  Jeff Duncan is a consistent conservative whose beliefs don’t change with shifting political winds.  Jeff Duncan doesn’t need a poll to show him how to vote, and his beliefs don’t conveniently change when it’s an election year.  When Jeff votes, he simply follows the Constitution of the United States of America.

I know all about the broken beltway politics of Washington and I know about Jeff Duncan’s character.  That’s why I support Jeff’s candidacy for United States Congress and I hope you will too.

Jeff is a fiscal conservative champion, which is why he is one of only eleven candidates in the nation along with Senator Jim DeMint to be endorsed by the conservative grassroots organization the Club for Growth.  And let me tell you, Jeff wasn’t placed on a national short list of leading fiscal conservative candidates just for voting right.

Jeff distinguishes himself as a rising star in the conservative movement because he is a fighter who will shake up the Washingtonestablishment the moment he is sworn into office.

In South Carolina, Jeff has been named a “Guardian of Small Business” and a “Tax Payer Hero.”  Jeff is also proud of his 100% pro-life voting record, his lifetime membership in the NRA, and being one of the loudest critics in South Carolina against Cap & Trade.

In 2009, Jeff introduced an alternative budget in the South Carolina General Assembly that would have reduced South Carolina’s debt by eliminating wasteful spending and reprioritizing the role of government.

In short, you can’t elect a leader more conservative than Jeff Duncan, and that’s exactly why South Carolina needs to send him to Washington.

Please join me in supporting Jeff’s campaign for Congress with your vote, your voice, and your financial assistance.  I can assure you that even in these difficult economic times, your investment in Jeff’s campaign will leave a lasting impact on South Carolina and the nation for years to come.

SC-03: Massey Endorses Duncan

I am proud and honored to have recently received the endorsement from my dear friend and fellow conservative, state Senator Shane Massey.

The following is a statement from Senator Shane Massey:

“When I decided last year to run for Congress, I did so, in large part, out of a frustration with what America has become. I am deeply concerned about irresponsible borrowing and spending, excessive government involvement in private affairs, and an elitist, out-of-touch Congress that seems to care very little about what the average American wants.”

“Although I am no longer a candidate for Congress, my concern about the direction of this country has not changed.  But correcting that course will not be easy.  It will require strong and consistent conservative leaders who will fight to shake up the Washington establishment with commons sense solutions.”

“We are fortunate in this congressional race to have several decent and well-qualified candidates.  I’ve gotten to know them all over the past year, and I consider them all friends.  But I get to vote for just one, and I intend to vote for Rep. Jeff Duncan.”

“With Jeff, what you see is what you get.  He talks frequently of his commitment to end the borrowing and spending binge in Washington and his determination to protect the values South Carolinians hold dear.  And that’s not just campaign rhetoric.  Jeff has been a consistent conservative during his service in the S.C. House of Representatives.  He’s been endorsed by the fiscally conservative National Club for Growth.  In fact, Jeff is one of just eleven candidates in the nation along with Sen. Jim DeMint to receive that endorsement.”

“We need Jeff’s brand of leadership and character in Washington.  I’m proud to support him for the 3rd Congressional District nomination, and I encourage others to do so, as well.”

Senator Massey represents Aiken, Edgefield, Saluda, and McCormick in the South Carolina State Senate.
