That is a great video. And to my point, a Herman Cain could take that video / cut in all the facts/quote of Obama's desperate support for abortion and planned parenthood in particular in ominous tones - then then the words -

WHO REALLY REPRESENTS YOU ?

Then flash to the picture of Herman Cain surrouned by a group of children who are - you know - alive.

Its not to convert every black person to he RNC, but it such an opportunity to at least open minds.

I agree that Cain involves a risk that he will say something really dumb. Which I acknowledged in the title, but didn't really address. But I don't think that issue is solved by staying away from social issues. His natural tendency may be to speak without thinking and that can get even the smartest people nto trouble. Nor is it cured by a myopic focus on the economy. He is going to face those questions.

Which brings me to the forest and the trees. The tree is Cains' jobs expertise, the forest is that that's not whats propelling his numbers.

Cain always had the "successful businessman" strength. But that is not what catapulted him in recent weeks. His debate skills and ability to articulate real answers to questions was a huge factor, but perhaps more than that was his (until the whole rock thing) presentation of his skills and ideas without needing to attack his opponents. If he starts re-framing every question to fit the same "I'm a successful businessman" answer, then he loses the very quality that got him out of the 2nd tier.

He has to think before he answers and that is a given - but he can articulate economic truth and moral truth and the many areas that the two are intertwined.

But even beyond that he can articulate why Washington is what it is. When you sanitize morality out of politics - you end up with a bunch of amoral people running the country. For instance, as soon as a candidate starts pretending that abortion is just a teeny tiny issue (so that they can more easily get elected), they are already willing to lie, and they are already corrupt. A true leader doesn't have to do that.

He nearly derailed his campaign into oblivion this spring when he allowed himself to get sidetracked into talking about Muslims in his potential administration, mosques in Murfreesboro, and the like.

While I think your diary is on point, the crux of the election will remain how well we articulate the better vision of a vibrant, unfettered, capitalist economy that frees job creators from the shackles of the Big Government Statists presently in charge of the reins.

This is where the vast strength of Herman Cain's resume comes into play; he is at a rare inflection point of history that a "non-politician" could actually get elected with the resume Cain holds...but Cain must be mindful to continually steer every discussion back to this strength.

Yes, Cain is no doubt strong on social conservatism and this is no doubt related to fiscal conservatism in our American culture -- however I don't think that is how the election will be truly won by a non-politician. The more someone like Herman Cain talks about socially conservative ideals -- except as they directly relate to fiscally conservative principles -- the more he will be getting off-message and off his path to victory.

The ground is perfectly prepared for someone who has a laser-like focus on job-creation and right-sizing government. Herman Cain can be that person, if he demonstrates that focus and can show enough gravitas to "handle" issues like foreign policy and the like. The primary issue must remain the economy and jobs.
