Obama’s GOTV Effort

In 2008 I signed up with Obama’s website and still get the OFA emails (about 3/day now).  Today’s email claims that early voting in Ohio and Iowa has seen a higher Democrat turnout than Republican.  Anyone have any news on this?  Or is just spin? Sure would be good to know if the RNC or the state Republican Parties had a good turnout operation going.

    doing the counting!

…It’s more properly a comment in an open thread, or maybe one of Moe’s or Neil’s election threads.

But, secondly, to answer your question, there is *some* truth to this, based on this website – what this shows is that Dem counties in OH have already turned out with a fairly significant amount of early voting (FWIW, I doubt that means much of anything…).

The Iowa results are a little more disconcerting, because the partisan breakdown of the vote is heavily Dem – I don’t know what to make of them (maybe early union organizing?…).

However, this same page shows very, very good early GOP turnout in ME, NC and NV.

So, at this point, early voting seems to be somewhat of a mixed bag, probably somewhat favoring GOP early voting…

…Which can be found as an Excel file from here, it looks like most of the best early voting returns in CA are from Republican areas: most of them are small counties, but San Diego country (where I’m at) already has a 13.15% return rate.

No partisan breakdowns here, but based on where the ballots are coming from, it looks like they’re coming from GOP areas! :)

I see that in my GOTV calls, but we shouldn’t get too excited because thatnis where the passion is. Eventually the deems may get around to voting.

And look at the voting age groups.

    Bodes very well…
