She’s the govenor. Otherwise I’ll let the people of Alaska decide.

Alaska law requires a special election if Stevens can’t serve out his term (a legacy of Murkowski appointing his daughter, apparently).

If you’re a Palin fan a senate position, particularly when in a weakened minority position, is less desirable than a governorship.

There is no question that she should become the next Senator of Alaska, assuming Stevens wins re-election and has to be replaced. In theory yes you’d rather be a Governor than a Senator when running for President, but not when you’re Governor of ALASKA. Its just too hard, she’s going to have to be in Iowa and New Hampshire a LOT, I mean a LOT over the next few years, to say nothing of South Carolina, Florida, etc, its going to be about a million times easier to do that when you’re A. VASTLY closer to those states to begin with, in Washington. And B. As a Senator you have WAY WAY WAY more free time, as those guys dont exactly have busy schedules these days (just ask Obama). So I think this one is really easy, I say YES to sending America’s Margaret Thatcher to the House of Lords!

Alaska wants pork. Alaska gets loads of pork. I can’t imagine that changing in the near future; part of that is just the nature of the state, and needed infrastructure, but that is going to sting in light of the association with McCain if she either ignores the needs of her state or starts trucking down the pork-barrel buffet.

It’s a lose-lose situation, honestly.

run to replace Stevens. I would love a female voce for the pro-life movement in the Senate. Plus, I think she could build a decent coalition of reps and blue dogs to scream NO! at some of Harry and Barack’s most marxist tendencies.

Sean Parnell would make a fine governor.

Lastly, if Sarah won’t run, I nominate Achance. He’d be a steel spined hard ass and we need a few of those on our side.

Let her improve her credentials. Let her improve the lives of her people. Let her make a good example of what a Good Executive should be.

But the MSM and the Dems will never stop destroying her. She still needs our support this time.

After all, she did whatever she could do to help us win this fight. But she could only do so much.

Let her prepare until 2012.

There’s not a lot of love for her among establishment Republicans here under the best of circumstances. She governed thus far by working with D-R coalitions and by having a huge budget surplus that could be used to keep people happy. I don’t think it will stay down, but right now the price of oil is below the FY 10 projection, which is what passes for a budget deficit for us. The Permanent Fund has lost over $10 Billion in the last couple of months which will make next year’s Dividend lower. Generally, a Governor can do anything and get away with it as long as the PFD is big enough; it will be lower next year.

The Democrats here are emboldened. They couldn’t beat Ted and Don, but they tasted blood and liked the taste. They’ll blame her for Begich and Jerkowitz’ failure to win – with some justification. They’ll be vengeful towards her. The Democrats in DC will be vengeful towards Alaska generally and her specifically. I think we can safely assume that most everything that swims, flies, or has fur will be declared endangered or threatened, so there’s no way we can replace our declining production.
