Over 200 Leading Texas Republican Women Endorse Ted Cruz for Senate

The Ted Cruz for Senate campaign announced today that over 200 leading Texas Republican women have personally endorsed the campaign, including over half of the current statewide leadership of TFRW that is permitted to and intends to endorse in Republican primaries.  Cruz has been endorsed by more Republican women than any other candidate in the US Senate race.  Why is this important?

The Republican women that make up the membership of the Texas Federation of Republican Women is over 11,000 ladies strong with 163 local clubs across the state.  TFRW is the second largest Republican women’s federation in the nation and in the last election cycle TFRW members logged over 850,000 hours working on campaigns.  You can be assured that thousands of these campaign hours will be spent advancing the Ted Cruz campaign.  TFRW is undeniably the most powerful political organization in Texas today.

Karen Townsend, the immediate past President of the Memorial West Republican Women’s Club, blogged her reasons for supporting Ted Cruz as a Republican Women leader, in short, because he is a “Happy Warrior.”

Ted Cruz, though, grabbed me. He captured my attention with the first speech I heard him deliver.  He is a compelling candidate – he inspires the audience.  In times like this, we need some real inspiration.  We are a nation mired in despair and anger.  We need someone fresh who will inspire us all.  Most importantly, we need someone who will inspire us as Republicans to be happy warriors.  Ted Cruz is a happy warrior.

Will you join Karen and 200 plus other Republican Women in supporting Ted Cruz?

Note:  These are individual endorsements.  The Texas Federation of Republican Women does not and cannot endorse in a Republican primary, and current TFRW club Presidents and Campaign Activities Chairs are not permitted to endorse.

* I work for the Ted Cruz campaign and am very biased, but can 200 plus Republican Women be wrong?

Crockett Keller Defends CHL Radio Ad

Deep in the heart of the Texas Hill Country in Mason, Texas concealed handgun license instructor Crockett Keller’s radio ad promoting his CHL course has gone viral and received national attention.  Drudge Report recently picked up the story and Glenn Beck interviewed Crockett Keller.

Crockett Keller defended his CHL radio ad to Glenn Beck,

“That was somewhat of a tongue-in-cheek jab at some of my liberal neighbors,“ he explained regarding his stance against ”socialist liberals” and those who voted for Obama. “You understand, I put this ad on a small, local country music station that has less about a less than a 50 mile radius. You know, I was pretty much speaking to my neighbors. That’s somewhat expanded, I think.”

“I have approximately 10 hours to try to instill some form of knowledge into a person where they can make a life and death decision in split second. When you carry a weapon to defend yourself … you have a scant few seconds to decide whether not this warrants using deadly force or otherwise. … Now, they [liberal voters] had over a year and a half to vet who they voted for president. Now how can I take 10 hours and try to teach them a life and death decision in just a few seconds in just a few seconds when they screwed it up after a year and a half?”

You can listen to the whole radio interview with Glenn Beck and Crockett Keller here.  Listen to Crockett Keller’s radio ad here.

Crockett Keller is now being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety.  To become a CHL instructor in Texas, you must be licensed by the DPS and be up to their standards to teach the class.  Previously the DPS stated that,

“The Department became aware of the statements in question yesterday and has begun an investigation into the matter. The Department will take appropriate administrative action based on the findings from the investigation.”

Stay tuned for more information on the DPS’s investigation of Crockett Keller.

Ted Cruz Endorsed by 115 Leaders of Texas Federation of Republican Women

Ted Cruz for Senate announced today that 115 leaders of the Texas Federation of Republican Women have united to support the campaign.  And though TFRW by-laws prohibit many statewide officers from endorsing in primaries, of the officers who are allowed to endorse and intend on endorsing, half are formally supporting Cruz. These Republican Women are part of the growing conservative movement uniting behind the Cruz campaign.

Ted is the obvious choice to take on the Obama agenda because he’s spent a lifetime standing up and fighting for conservative values. He is the only proven conservative in the Senate race. We can always count on him to stand up for U.S. sovereignty, the Constitution, and traditional values. Join Republican Women across the state and urge conservatives to support Ted!

Though TFRW by-laws prohibit many statewide officers from endorsing in primaries, of the officers who are allowed to endorse and intend on endorsing, half are formally supporting Ted Cruz. These Republican Women are part of the growing conservative movement uniting behind our campaign.  Ted was recently profiled on the cover of National Review, and the story mentioned the Kerr County Republican Women Candidates Forum that Ted participated in and won.

Here are a few more testimonials from TFRW leaders:

“Rarely does a candidate come along I get so excited about supporting. He is exactly the kind of conservative we should be uniting behind. He can articulate conservative principles, has a compelling personal story, and is the best candidate to stop the Obama agenda.”

-Sherry Peterson, TFRW Deputy President for Region V

“Ted’s record has shown that he actually is a conservative. He won’t compromise with liberals, and will not only vote the right way in the Senate, but will really help advance the conservative cause. We need him in the Senate to truly cut spending, limit the size of government, and get our nation back on the road to fiscal sanity.”

-Barbara Larson, TFRW Vice President for Legislation

Ted’s campaign has tremendous momentum and support, with endorsements from nearly all the conservative leaders in Texas and nationally, and he needs your help to keep it going. Will you please join the Republican Women who are endorsing Ted Cruz today?

Texas School Finance Plan Killed by Point of Order, Next Steps

Texas State Representative Wayne Christian released the following statement explaining how the school finance bill, SB 1581, was killed tonight and what the next steps are to make sure our public schools are adequately and equally funded.

Now that a budget agreement has been reached between the House and the Senate this is the last piece of the puzzle, to decided how the money that has been appropriated gets distributed to the schools.  This is not a Republican vs Democrat issue, more so a rural vs suburban vs urban, or rich vs poor issue that cuts across party lines.

Rep. Yvonne Davis called a point of order that killed SB 1581, the school finance vehicle.  A point of order is a technical violation of the House rules that the bill violates.

Now SB 1811 will become the new vehicle for the school finance plan.  SB 1811 has been passed out of the House and Senate and it is going to conference committee for both the chambers to work out the differences between the bills.  The conference committee members will ask their respective chambers to “go outside the bounds” in their conference committee report and add in a school finance plan.  This will require both chambers to vote on this request to go outside the bounds and approve the request.

This limits the input of members of the House and Senate who are not on the conference committee.  The House has not appointed its conference committee members yet, the Senate’s are below.  The House sponsor of SB 1811, Appropriations Chairman Jim Pitts, will appoint the House conference members, he will for sure be one of them.

Senate Conferees: Appointed (05/21/2011) Duncan (Chair) | Deuell | Patrick | West | Williams

It is yet to be determined what school finance plan (Eissler or Hochberg) will be considered and adopted in the conference committee.  Who the House conferees are (Eissler, Hochberg, or both?) will have a big determination on what school finance plan gets taken up.

Once approval is given to go outside the bounds and the conference committee adopts a school finance plan each chamber will vote the bill up or down without the chance to offer any amendments.

Like always, the situation is very fluid and something may have changed by morning, stay tuned for additional updates as the situation develops.

Video: ESPN’s E:60 Undercover Texas Cockfighting Investigation

As noted previously ESPN’s award-winning news-magazine program E:60 did an undercover report on illegal cockfighting in Texas high lighting Representative Wayne Christian’s bill, HB 1043, that would close the loopholes in the cockfighting laws in Texas.  Below is the video from ESPN.

The day after the ESPN story aired the bill passed the Texas House, it is still awaiting action in the Senate.

In other cockfighting related news, a couple months ago a man attending a cockfight was actually killed by one of of the birds with a knife attached to its leg.

Noodling Bill Passes #TxLege

Today the Texas Senate debated and passed the “noodling” bill, HB 2189, that legalizes and regulates hand fishing for catfish in Texas. The bill has all ready passed the Texas House, next step is for Governor Perry to sign it into law.

Final 48 Hour Push: Texas House Redistricting Map

Representative Wayne Christian and former Rep. Joe Nixon extend one last call for action regarding the conservative “Nixon Texas House Map” that is fair, legal and elects more Republicans to the Texas House for the next decade.

To watch Rep. Christian’s video alert click here.

The final Nixon Map that needs your support is “Plan H212 REP. CAIN STATEWIDE SUBSTITUTE CSHB 150.”  Rep. Erwin Cain has filed this map as an amendment to the House Redistricting Committee’s map CSHB 150 that will be voted on this Wedensday April 27th.

Please call your State Representative and ask them to support the “Nixon Map” as filed by Rep. Cain and to follow Rep. Cain’s lead on the House floor.

Time is of the essence here, we have less than 48 hours to influence the direction Texas will take for the next decade!

Support the 1847 Walker Colt Revolver as the Official State Gun of Texas

Texas needs an official state gun, Arizona and Utah have one, why don’t we? What a better why to express the rugged individualism and self reliance that has defined the great people of Texas since the days of the Republic than by honoring the Walker Colt Revolver as the official state gun of Texas. Without the Walker Colt Revolver in the hands of the Texas Rangers the Republic of Texas might not of survived the trials and tribulations that it did on its path to statehood.

Message from Texans for Rick Perry: A Great Night for Our Campaign and Our Supporters!

For more updates on Governor Perry’s campaign visit The Right Side of Austin.

What a great night for our campaign and our supporters!! Governor Perry distinguished himself as the conservative leader to help Texas remain the best state to live, work, and raise a family. Tonight, Governor Perry pulled away from his challenger and delivered a decisive victory in KERA’s gubernatorial debate.

Governor Perry’s performance tonight— energetic and in command of the issues from start to finish— demonstrated why so many folks are joining Governor Perry’s campaign team every single day.

The audience responded extremely well to Gov. Perry’s performance, and, judging from the raucous noise and positive feedback coming from the sizeable crowd here at our sold out post-debate party in Denton, it is undeniable that the momentum in this campaign is completely on our side. The folks back at the campaign office back in Austin informed me the phones have been ringing off the hook with supporters praising the governor’s remarks and asking how they can help the campaign.

A few quick ways to keep the momentum on our side include:

  1. Signing up as a Home Headquarters by visiting http://hq.rickperry.org/join/n7zz2
  2. raising money for the campaign with your own personal link at http://rickperry.org/fundraise
  3. becoming a supporter of Rick Perry on Facebook: http://Facebook.com/GovernorPerry
  4. following the campaign on Twitter: http://Twitter.com/GovPerry2010
  5. attending our blogger summit later this month: http://rickperry.org/bloggersummit
  6. pledge to vote for Governor Perry on March 2nd: http://hq.rickperry.org/join/0b78v

Tonight, the Governor spoke about his record of fiscal discipline; Rick Perry is the only Texas governor since World War II to sign a budget that cut general revenue spending in the state budget— and he’s done it twice. Governor Perry explained how Texas is standing up to Washington’s wasteful spending and one-size-fits-all mandates. He spoke about how Texas is taking the lead in securing our border because of Washington’s failure to do so. He also noted that Texas has some of the strongest accountability and curriculum standards in education and that student test scores have been rising under his leadership.

Tonight, the Governor articulated his unwavering Texas values and his record of proven conservative leadership, and we are asking you to actively help Gov. Perry spread his conservative message and the Texas success story. Your advocacy will keep our tremendous momentum building and help us grow the largest grassroots effort in Texas’ history! Thanks to all the hard work you’re doing to help the campaign, we are positioned for a strong finish over the next few weeks.

Governor’s Race Game Changer: KBH on Video Supporting Abortion

Update:  KBH was asked during the debate what her stance is on abortion.  She danced around the question and never answered it.  This is what she was trying to hide.  Thanks to Texas Right to Life for releasing this video so Texans can know what her record really is.

Texas Right to Life released this game changing video today.  In the video KBH says that she is pro-choice and that a fetus at 22-weeks old is not considered a life.  Watch the whole video for yourself, it is eye opening.

Video can be viewed here at the Right Side of Austin Blog where it was originally posted and on youtube here.

This should make things even more interesting at the Gubernatorial debate tonight!

DON’T BE FOOLED: Senator Hutchison shares, on video, her strident pro-choice views.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Graham,

“Quotable”

“Senator Hutchison has always been forthright with Texas Right to Life about her views on life.  While she favors some restrictions on abortion, she has steadfastly held to her ‘viability’ position throughout her political career.  Additionally, Senator Hutchison has personally told us in meetings that she favors embryonic stem cell research.  While we have enjoyed a cordial relationship with her, her views on life are not appropriate for one seeking to be the Governor of our Pro-Life state.”

Dr. Joseph Graham, President
Texas Right to Life
