The Department of Homeland Security has a corporate IP address of 216.81.80.134 and is located in Springfield, Virginia—area code 703. The coordinates of this location are latitude 38.7438, longitude -77.2333. How do I know this? Well, let me give you a little background information and then we’ll connect the dots.
I have a web site I use to sell a product that I invented and patented. The product is basically an educational tool. My biggest market is college students enrolled in a technical or engineering program. I also sell this product through an association of college bookstores. As an educational tool, my product is totally 100% guaranteed harmless. If you Google my name and the words “graph paper”, you’ll find my web site.
On April 15th I attended the Council Bluffs, IA “Tea Party” Tax Day protest. I emailed the event organizer the day before that I would be attending the “Tea Party”, along with several fellow co-workers. I got the organizers name and email address through the website theglennbeck912project.com. I was a little hesitant to go at first since I’m not one for protesting, but in the final analysis it was a wonderful experience.
Enough with the background, now let’s connect the dots. On April 18th, two days after the tea party protests, I was checking traffic on my website. I always do reverse IP traces on major hits to see where they are originating so I can evaluate the effectiveness of my marketing strategy. As I checked one particular large hit, I was stunned to see the following on my screen,
Hostname: 216.81.80.134
ISP: Department of Homeland Security
Organization: Department of Homeland Security
Type: Corporate
Country: United States
State/Region: VA
City: Springfield
Latitude: 38.7438
Longitude: -77.2333
Area Code: 703
When I told my wife about my find, she seemed to dismiss it and suggested that they may have been interested in making a purchase. I checked my PayPal account and noted no orders had been processed that day for the Department of Homeland Security. Is this just a coincidence? The answer is NO. My full name is not on my website. Someone had to actively search to make the connection.
I am a Marine Corp veteran, I do practice my religious faith, I do own a shotgun, and I did attend the Council Bluffs, IA “Tea Party” on April 15th. Now I feel I am on the Department of Homeland Security’s watch list of possible terrorists. They appear to have been monitoring the emails of the Tea Party contact organizers. Who and what else are they monitoring?
These are the facts; I’ll leave it up to you to decide what actions you may want to take if you attended a tea party. As for me, I’ve already contacted my congressman to vehemently lodge my complaint.

GreyCloak Wednesday, April 29th at 6:27AM EDT (link)I’ll not question your lifetime, but I once attended a three-day seminar on something like “How to run an election.” The convention’s opening speaker was George McGovern … a candidate for President.
In the Nixon years, obvious government agents kneeled on stage during McGovern’s remarks and slowly panned every row of the audience with their cameras. I’m probably on an FBI video to this day.
The conference was interesting: I learned how to change a mechanical voting machine from one candidate to another (a common Democrat ploy in those days, in Chicago), and a lot more about honest campaigning with a well-selected candidate.
Unfortunately. DHS is big on surveillance … maybe not a bad thing for honest civilian voters … but don’t think the Democrats will actually reverse any policies that track folks that might be conservative. Remember, Clinton murdered over 70 men, women, and children in Waco because they might have had too many guns … no indictments were ever handed down

Dozens of these stories
jackbenimble Monday, April 27th at 9:19AM EDT (link)There were dozens of these stories. Google FBI and Tea Party and you will find them in google news. I looked around half-heartedly for a second source but they all seemed to all trace back to the same Canada Free Press article that is linked in your post above. Of course that does not mean it is true but I like to have a little more ammo in my gun before I start believing stuff. They all said about the same thing which was that on orders from Homeland Security, EVERY Tea Party was surveilled by the FBI.
My file must be getting pretty thick! Besides believing inlower taxes and less spending, the 2nd and 10′th Amendments, I carried a “No Amnesty” sign at the Sheridan Tea Party and my dauighter dates an Army Lt. so they have plenty of reasons to track my “right wing extremism”. In the interest of saving the government some tax dollars and working from the assumption that they also monitor Red State, I’ll make it easy for them to match this post to my picture by stating that I was the only person at the Sheridan Tea Party with a “No Amnesty” sign.

Achance Sunday, April 26th at 10:45PM EDT (link)They might have some interest in leaders and organizers but at this stage of the game, it is really just to see who’s sticking their head up and to try to cross reference them with any other thing the Security Services (like that?) might be interested in.
That said, if there are continuing rounds of Tea Parties or other demonstrations, before long you can be sure that within your eyesight is an FBI agent or informer, probably somebody from the various military law enforcement and investigative functions, and somebody just loosely enough associated with the CIA that they can plausibly deny him/her. Their role is usually just observation, but at least back in the ‘Sixties, law enforcement did a lot of provocation. They knew they’d have trouble busting people if it was clear they provoked, but they didn’t mind watching the cops kick the s@#t out of people in response to things the cops themselves started.
If we get to this place again, lots of people will begin to understand why the Bill Ayers of the World started blowing things up. I never agreed with the objectives of the anti-war Left or the Civil Rights Movement after Dr. King, but I was close enough and knew and saw enough to understand how someone in a leadership position could come to really, really learn to hate cops.
In Vino Veritas
Bill Ayers never was
Justin_Case Wednesday, April 29th at 8:37PM EDT (link)part of the “anti-war left”. Neither was Jane Fonda or her drip of a husband, Tom Hayden, and the rest of the Chicago Seven. If anything, they were ANTI-American. They clearly took sides with the Viet Cong as evidenced by VC flags flying in Grant Park and Fonda’s trip to North Vietnam during her time as a useful idiot.
There should be a Chicago Seven Trial transcript on the net somewhere as well as a chronology of events that led to the killings at Kent State.
I well remember the 1968 convention. I grew up just outside the city. There were other people back then who tried to blame the police for overreacting and beating up these poor little kids.
My father despised Mayor Daley, but he backed him AND the Chicago Police Department in this case. So do I.
One more thing. My dad told me, “If you go down there, I will kick your ass.”
There was no way I had any intention of getting involved in that fiasco. But, let there be no doubt that if I had, and got my head busted in, I would have myself to blame if my father had to judge.
You obviously had no exposure to the far left in the '60's.
mbecker908 Wednesday, April 29th at 10:45PM EDT (link)Ayers, Fonda, Hayden, etal were not at all atypical. As a matter of fact the only thing that separated them from several million others was just a little leadership and opportunity. And, there was a HUGE difference between 1968 and 1970. The whole movement moved WAY to the left after Grant Park. If Nixon hadn’t been president, there would likely have been major riots in every big city, much, much worse than we actually had and Washington would probably still be burning.
My point is
Justin_Case Thursday, April 30th at 6:19AM EDT (link)that a common misconception exists that the people I mentioned above were “anti war”. They most definitely wanted North Vietnam and their Soviet and Chinese benefactors to win. They were not for “peace”. VC flags flying at Grant Park are evidence of this.
Another misconception is that protesters were blameless while the police were looking for an excuse to beat some heads in.
I’m very much aware of what occurred during the ’60s as I was of draft age during that time.
My point is that there was a lot of provocation
Achance Saturday, May 2nd at 3:57PM EDT (link)on the demonstator/protester side, some of that provocation being done by agents of various police agencies. As you relate, I don’t know of any incidents of cops laying into a crowd unprovoked, but I know of incidents where the provocation came over the stringent objections of the organizers and some of the provocateurs were undercover cops or informers.
And I just use “anti-war” left as a shorthand for all sorts of groups: some were just looking to get balled and high, some were anti-draft, some anti-Vietnam War, some anti-war generally, and some were, as you say, thoroughly anti-American. I, too, have heard the chants of “Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh, NLF is gonna win!

I am glad this is a top rated diary, but I am surprised some are so flippant about it. We were told the DHS and Patriot Act were about Islamic Terror. I, and many others, warned people once you take rights away, you wont get them back. Once you give the government more power over people’s lives, that power can be used by your political foes against you.
Now we know anyone on the right is a potential terrorist or any soldier. For some reason we believed Bush when he said he was only going after terrorists, of course did we stop to wonder if one day we might be called terrorists for simply believing in the Constitution?
If we really look into this, Bush will get as much blame as Obama, if not more. See this is why I keep talking about liberty, this is why I keep talking about small government.

well let's see
Doc Holliday Saturday, May 2nd at 3:26PM EDT (link)we already have the CIA, FBI, NSA, Secret Service, and many other organizations who’s sole purpose is to keep us safe. Maybe you should reread the diary, it is not about Muslim extremists. In fact, Bush sold the DHS and domestic wiretapping by claiming it would solely be used against Islamic terrorists.
We bought the new powers hook, line, and sinker. This issue separates libertarian-conservatives (in the ascendancy) and Big Government false Social Conservatives/War Hawks that want to use the government to their own devices. I told them they would regret the power taken from the individual and given to the government.
I am all for fighting the war on Terror. But this new administration is not worried about that, they seem to be focusing on political rivals, but are using their new found powers to do it. You and I probably will never agree, but big government Republicanism is waning, so I will not worry too much.

Look, I’m as opposed to big govt as you are. I didn’t especially appreciate Bush sitting on the veto and letting so much deficit spending pass by.
However, Obama and Co. don’t need any laws, old or new, to abuse their power and abrogate the Cnstitution. It’s already illegal to use the FBI for political persecution. The DHS & warrantless taps were designed to keep track of future Muslim bombers — and it worked. We haven’t had an attack in eight years.
Bill Clinton mis-used the Justice Dept to lambaste and harrass political enemies ( see David Limbaugh’s “Absolute Power” for details.) Tell me how Bush was responsible for that.

yes Warrior, but the flaw
Doc Holliday Saturday, May 2nd at 3:54PM EDT (link)is that I was responding to the diary. See, you took my response to the diary and then put your own meaning into my response. Bush did keep us safe, but he also was a big government social conservative who wanted to use the government to create what he believed to be a compassionate Leviathan.
I still like Bush. I still have his sticker on my car. I think you are barking up the wrong tree. I can like the man Bush, celebrate his successes, and still see where he and I do not agree ideologically. The empirical evidence is he left his party in shambles and has no interest in fixing it. We are left to pick up the pieces, I am offering new ideas, ideas that are catching on.
I have been here over three years and have been consistent since day one. Now just today Demint is saying what I have been saying and he gets front page attention. And yes, you may categorize Bush anyway you want to, but he had to make sacrifices to win the wars in Iraq & Afganistan — even to continue fighting them. My guess is he wheeled and dealed with Congress to keep the troops funded & in the field when popular opinion had gone south.
In any event, what big new ideas are you taliking about? I’ve been on this site four and a half years and have been railing against big, unweildy wasteful govt the entire time.
The point is, Monday morning quarterbacking is easy. After 911, EVERYBODY was clamoring for Bush to DO SOMETHING. So he did, and now he has to take flack because a man we knew to be a socialist long before the election was actually elected and is now using any means necessary to socialize America. I just don’t see how that is Bush’s fault.
Believe me, anyone who was connected with the likes of ACORN could care less what the law says or means. Just ask the undead they registered to vote in Chi-town. No, wait….

Doc Holliday Saturday, May 2nd at 3:58PM EDT (link)what point am I supposed to get? Where did I disagree with you and your list? You ask me when I joined the fight, I am not sure what you are getting at. I don’t have to explain myself to you nor will I. I could give you a list of things I have done but wont because when someone is just trying to argue, the worst thing you can do is give them more fodder.
If you want to go on over nothing go ahead, I will not play your game, I am done responding to you, I still have no clue why you have a burr under your saddle.

Doc, quit smoking that dope
Warrior Saturday, May 2nd at 4:45PM EDT (link)Well, when somebody comes along claiming to have Big, New ideas and bashing Bush, I guess I don’t appreciate it. And I don’t particularly like to argue — just to set things Right.
And the point you’re supposed to get is that most of us here at RS have been fighting big, intrusive govt for years. You display a certain hubris to imply you are somehow pushing “new” ideas.
The likely cause of the tone of this discussion is your remark that:
“You and I probably will never agree, but big government Republicanism is waning, so I will not worry too much.”
You thereby imply I’m a “big govt.” Republican. No such luck.
And BTW, how did you feel about deficit spending under Reagan? Was he a “big govt” Republican even though he ran up a deficit to win the Cold War?
Did he leave his party in “shambles” too?
Finally, you say:
” I could give you a list of things I have done…”
Yeah, so could I. And they all would inform you that you have misjudged and insulted me. And if you think I’m argumentative now, you ain’t seen nothing yet….

no you misjudged me sir, you attacked me first
Doc Holliday Saturday, May 2nd at 5:29PM EDT (link)anyone here that knows me knows I speak the truth. I have been saying this from day one. Our party will win again when we support limited government and maximum freedom. You tried to pick a fight with me because you thought I slighted Bush. But the facts are Bush did grow the government and that increased power is being used against us. I don’t see many taking your side here, I just stated the facts.
Molon Labe!
It's really not debatable
Warrior Saturday, May 2nd at 10:37PM EDT (link)You said:
“You and I probably will never agree, but big government Republicanism is waning, so I will not worry too much.”
Which implies that I am a Big Govt Republican. You haven’t been on this site as long as I have so you don’t realize what nonsense you’re saying. So, YOU picked the fight.
Man up, whydoncha?
And this:
“Our party will win again when we support limited government and maximum freedom.”
Brilliant. Do you think you invented that? We were pushing that agenda long before you ever heard of Red State.
And this:
“But the facts are Bush did grow the government and that increased power is being used against us.”
Try reading my rersponse. As another poster has said, Bush was never made King. It is Congress that writes the budget. And I’ve already said he should have used the veto pen more often.
Read my lips: BHO & Co. didn’t use any of your so-called “increased power” to pass the porkulus, fire the prez of GM or start buying ins companies and he sure as h*ll didn’t need any DHS or domestic taps to mis-use the FBI. For crying out loud, Hoover did it for decades before anyone ever heard of GW Bush. Honestly dude, WAKE UP.
Finally, you retort:
“I don’t see many taking your side here, I just stated the facts.”
Look genius, I don’t care who “takes my side” or not. What are you, in third grade?

they are not "new ideas" that is the joke
Doc Holliday Saturday, May 2nd at 5:35PM EDT (link)our party lost its way by trying to cobble together a coalition based on using government to control people in just a different way than the Dems. I don’t claim to own these ideas, but it is funny to me what was obviously needed is now just being stated by our leaders in the Wall Street Journal as a new plan.

Right. You don’t “own” these ideas. Indeed, RS was started to press just such ideas. And politicians ALWAYS call their latest plan “new.” That’s why I objected to your describing them so and claiming them as your own.

Doc Holliday Saturday, May 2nd at 11:02PM EDT (link)I think we should abandon this argument. I am not one to drop an argument easily, but I think we are basically on the same side. If you want to believe I think individual liberty is a new idea I came up with, fine. Most people that know me would not take it that way, they would not think me so conceded or ignorant.
I am surprised we have not crossed paths before since we have both been here over three years. And yes, I concede you have been here longer
Anyway, let’s chalk this up to a misunderstanding, the written word can be misinterpreted, if we were in a bar tossing a few beers down, I am sure we would get on famously.

Molon Labe!
Wow, I'm impressed
Warrior Saturday, May 2nd at 11:43PM EDT (link)you know how to use emoticons while all I can do is make these ridiculous faces : )
Doc, I thought since Reagan said “Govt is not the solution, Govt is the problem” everybody was on board with shrinking the size and power of govt. But there are exceptions: like winning the Cold War and responding to 911 and the threat posed by Muslim extremists.
And yes, I was peeved at Bush for so much domestic spending, especially the NCLB Act after he promised to curtail or even eliminate the Dept. of Ed. But I can’t stomach liberals blaming him and bashing him for everything and I’m really burned up when conservatives do it. Don’t you see? If we let them, they will soon be blaming him for ALL failures of the O administration and we can’t let them get away with that.
Also, like I originally said, they do enough Bush bashing already - we really don’t have to. Everybody knows he was a reckless spender. Fine. that’s why we lost in ‘08. Let us not sink into endless recriminations and give the Dems any more ammunition.
And, yes, sometimes govt powers are expanded in wartime. We really would have had fits had we been around during the days of Pres. Lincoln. He suspended habeas corpus, among many other outrageous things at the beginning of the Civil War.
The difference now is, the GWOT, or whatever we’re calling it now, has no definite stopping point. I truly believe Bush was forced by circumstances to institute warrantless searches and wiretaps and even the clownish DHS. Remember, 911 took place because of eight years worth of unanswered attacks under B. Clinton. We were perceived as weak internationally and we suffered for it
The problem is, a perfect storm was created because these powers were in effect just as a rank socialist took office. However, much of what the O - team is now doing will carry a huge political price in ‘10. After all, his minions have proclaimed that half the U.S. population are extremists — and that includes people from all parties.
Philosophically, or rather, theologically, I believe God may have turned His back on us. I can’t think of anything which might enrage Him more thant the current sewage spewing from American sociopolitical culture: unfettered abortion, widespread pornography and the cultural acceptance of homosexuality.
No, I’m not condeming anyone. I believe homosexuals are taxpayers too and should have all the rights anyone else has. However, the constant demand to normalize homosexuality, I believe, is wrong. Teaching children it’s just another “lifestyle” choice, gay ministers, gay Scout masters and all the rest will eventually redound to our demise, IMHO.
So, sure. I’d love to have a drink with you. I don’t drink alcohol, so I’ll have an IBC root beer instead.
And, yes, I know. Another popular plan is to dump Christians in order to create a “big tent” for the Repub party. But, somehow, I think we would become what we beheld in the Dems — a value free, morally relativistic, situational ethics supporting party based on human frailty and secular humanism. For if my morality is only based on my opinion and yours only based on yours, there’s ultimately no difference. And, big spending Repubs aside, that’s what will destroy our party, our freedom and our country.

wow Warrior you said a lot in that post!
Doc Holliday Sunday, May 3rd at 2:51AM EDT (link)Trust me, as much as I regret Bush’s overall lack of a small government philosophy, I still respect the man very much. Like I said, I still have his sticker on my car, the McCain one went off the day after the election.
I am also a student of history, my sheepskin says History on it. You are quite correct about Lincoln and things do change in war when you are trying to defend the homeland. Our bureaucracy did not work before 9/11 and Bush did his best to fix that, unfortunately that created more bureaucracy. I was not a full bore anti Patriot Act type, but I did say our political enemies might use the power against us in the future.
I am a Christian but I don’t believe God has turned against us. The reason is that I don’t believe God protects nations and destroys them, too much evil has occurred in history to think God protects the good against the bad. I do respect all belief systems though, and I do agree our nation has become decadent, and that is a major reason why we are struggling so. To me God inspires men to do great things. It might sound lame, but I truly believe that God helps those who help themselves. In other words, He will not protect your life or culture, but He will inspire you to do just that.
BTW, IBC is good stuff

Reagan's spending didn't leave his party in a shambles
Vegas_Rick Saturday, May 2nd at 5:51PM EDT (link)But then he didn’t bring us such wonders as No Child Left Behind, the Prescription drug windfall and TARP. Yeah, Bush left the party in a shambles. But he didn’t do it alone, the Republican spenders in the House and Senate have their big share of the blame.
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” Calvin Coolidge.
so true Rick
Doc Holliday Saturday, May 2nd at 6:05PM EDT (link)Frist probably did more to hurt the party than anyone. He tried to use his power to gain favor in Iowa, he wanted to be president. The disastrous results left him out in the cold, banished for good.

Warrior Saturday, May 2nd at 10:57PM EDT (link)Yeah, Bush pushed a lot of stupid programs. But let’s not bash him because Obama is a power hungry socialist. BHO & Co. would have found another way to surveil and harrass political opponents just as B. Clinton did, as I’ve already pointed out at least once in this “discussion.”
And various past administrations used Hoover to watch and arrest political opponents as well.
Please, Please, Please — let’s not join Maureen Dowd, Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric in blaming Bush for everything but the Chicago fire.

No, I would not have rather had Gore or Kerry.
mbecker908 Saturday, May 2nd at 11:34PM EDT (link)But that doesn’t change the fact that GWB destroyed the Republican Brand by exercising exactly zero leadership his last five years in office and what passed for leadership in the first three on the domestic front amounted to nothing more that giving the Ds their wish lists. Plus, Bush’s utter incompetence at both domestic policy and politics gave us Obama.
To Kowalski...
mbecker908 Saturday, May 2nd at 11:53PM EDT (link)Asking whether Gore or Kerry would have been better than Bush is like asking a healthy man if he would prefer to die young from cancer, heart disease or a liver disorder. The result is the same in all cases, early and painful death.
You must be joking
Warrior Sunday, May 3rd at 12:16AM EDT (link)Do you remember that giant sighing sound of relief after 911 when ALL Americans were thanking GOD in Heaven that Bush was president rather than Gore.
Had Gore been pres, we would have sent over a team of crack lawyers to determine the environmental impact of the WTC towers crumbling and sued the Taliban in International Court.
Meanwhile, back at home, we would have endured several more ingenious attacks at the hands these terrorists who moved freely throughout the U.S. during the Clinton years because Jamie Goerlich had written and B. Clintol effectuated the “Wall memo.” (”We don’t need to learn how to land, just to take off and fly around.”)
Or worse, Kerry or Gore might themselves have instituted a draconian repeal of civil rights far in excess of anything Bush did (think “let no good crisis go to waste.”) And either Dem would have been given plenty of cover by an army of syncophantic stooges in a compliant liberal media.
Think about it, 911 was a far more serious and imminent danger to the U.S. than an economic downturn. And even if it wasn’t, the media would have convinced everyone that “these measures are necessary to keep us safe.” B. Clinton even expressed regret that such a tragedy didn’t occur on his watch.
You need to quit drinking that Kool-Aid or whatever it is you’re doing.

And I've said repeatedly that the one area Bush did a great job with
mbecker908 Sunday, May 3rd at 12:11PM EDT (link)is foreign policy. At least up to late 2003 when he decided to hide under his desk and let the Democrats and the media have a free run. I’ve absolutely and consistently supported Bush’s actions after 911 (although I would have rather he ignored the UN, but I can live with that). My problem has consistently been his action on the domestic front and his inaction in defending his correct policies and giving the Ds the bully pulpit.
I’m not drinking anything, but black coffee, and I simply realize that “leadership” wasn’t in GWB’s lexicon. The guy destroyed the Republican Party and set the stage for Obama.

Nonsense
Warrior Saturday, May 2nd at 11:58PM EDT (link)GWB could have done nothing without willing accomplices in Congress, as has already been pointed out. And I wouldn’t exactly call rebuilding the military, rebuilding the intelligence service, winning the wars in Iraq and Afganistan against unremitting pressure from the Dems and the Lib media and keeping us safe from another domestic terror attack for the past eight years “zero leadership.”
And we bash “Bush’s utter incompetence” for things like the NCLB Act, which I deplore on grounds of principle. However, your comments only show that you have been duped by a selective media. NCLB has achieved much of its’ intended goal - scores are rising — with no thanks to the NEA or AFT, who actively opposed the measure from the beginning.
As previously mentioned, Bush didn’t pass Rx meds for seniors, NCLB and all the rest of “the D’s wish list” by himself. It’s a sick party from stem to stern, with few exceptions. So, let’s QUIT BASHING BUSH FOR IT.

Clinton's Legacy: 9/11
Warrior Tuesday, May 5th at 9:59AM EDT (link)Yes, we are all living WJClinton’s legacy. He disassembled the intelligence service, starved the military and threw up the “Wall” memo to protect his illegal dealings w/the Chinese. He also failed to respond (except in sterile, non-systematic attacks on aspirin factories as cover for domestic scandals) to eight years of terrorist attacks, thereby encouraging them.
Did Bush make mistake in responding to the results of Clinton’s legacy (9/11)? Of course, just as FDR made mistakes responding to Pear Harbor — Japanese Internment Camps, for instance. However, would that have justified Truman in throwing political opponents into internment camps? Hardly.
And so it is w/BHO using wartime/crisis powers against his own population. It cannot and should not be blamed on President George Walker Bush.
