Missing “Vice President-Elect” Sends Message

Joe Biden, who has been getting face time on the back of milk cartons lately, has succeeded in sending a message to Capitol Hill. Biden’s authority to do this stems from Article One of the Constitution which establishes the executive branch or something like that. Biden harkened back to FDR’s ability to use television as a way to “fight the economy.” Biden also mentioned that by getting a new set of hair plugs, he is helping out the economy and he of course still travels to “work” on taxpayer funded Amtrak from his home in “Scranton.” It wasn’t immediately clear if the words Biden used were his own.

Biden on Economy … “we’re at war”:

Vice-president-elect Joe Biden likened the country’s economic crisis to the attacks of 9/11 Monday in a private meeting on Capitol Hill.

“We’re at war,” Biden told congressional leaders of both parties during their sit-down with Barack Obama in the Capitol, according to two sources familiar with the exchange.

It’s not the first time the vice-president-elect has used stark language to underscore the perilous state of the economy. In an interview last month on ABC’s “This Week,” Biden said that a stimulus package was needed to keep the economy from “absolutely tanking.”

Typical rhetoric from the democrats, Rham Emanuel is on the record stating that we can’t let a crisis go to waste. Just setting up the Congress and the American public to “get behind” Obama has he fights the recession from his oval office politburo desk.

Democrats like to fight things like “the economy”, George Bush and “global warming” … but Al-Qaeda? Not so much

Krugman: Obama needs to save us from Depression

He can cause the sea levels to decrease, institute hope and change and now he, through the power of the federal government, can even save the economy!
Fighting Off Depression

What Krugman doesn’t seem to understand, even though he is a “nobel prize winning economist”, is that government intervention does not help an economy in recession but make it worse.

I particularly find his alarmist language fascinating as he tries to urge the reader to support Barry in order to save the economy.

Banks aren’t lending; businesses and consumers aren’t spending. Let’s not mince words: This looks an awful lot like the beginning of a second Great Depression.

Here’s my nightmare scenario: It takes Congress months to pass a stimulus plan, and the legislation that actually emerges is too cautious. As a result, the economy plunges for most of 2009, and when the plan finally starts to kick in, it’s only enough to slow the descent, not stop it.

Well here is my nightmare scenario Paul, the Congress does pass the “stimulus” and when it doesn’t work, because government intervention does not, the federal government will be left with more debt and more inflation, a population unwilling to start new businesses because of the increased tax burden and regulation.
Also, I love this talk of “infrastructure” building … how will the democrats deal with the environmentalists? Environmental red tape causes simple construction and energy exploration to be held up for years and some times decades in the courts. Good grief … who voted for these people?

It is terrible when you realize that a good chunk of the population still believes that FDR “saved us from the Depression,” when in fact … all he did was make it worse (like Hoover before him)

Hey Paul, explain to me this “scenario” … the federal government is able to convert unemployed accountants, wall street bankers, Starbucks’ employees and secretaries into construction workers and engineers who are ready to start building roads, tunnels, bridges and schools by March of 2009.

Recommended Reading: The Reagan I Knew

I mentioned earlier, in my post “Looking for Someone“, a quote from the book, “The Reagan I Knew,” by William F. Buckley. As I go through the book I try to look for similarities between the path of Ronald Reagan and the path of Governor Palin and I keep finding more and more great information.

One of the so called “problems” with Governor Palin is that she is not comfortable in the area of foreign affairs. Not surprising since she is a governor of a state, was Bill Clinton a foreign policy expert? Hardly … but let’s play along with the media line anyway.

Here is an excerpt from a letter in which William F. Buckley is discussing foreign affairs and the so-called problems with Reagan’s knowledge in this realm and how it may hurt him when he runs for President: (emphasis mine)

You will need in due course to take a position here. I heard it said about you — by a well-wisher– that it will have to be Rockefeller in 1976 ( Moderate Republican) because you “refuse to wrap your mind around foreign policy.” You must prove such skeptics wrong, at it is not too early to start. You should have someone on your staff who is trained to concentrate full time on such matters — let me know if you desire suggestions.

It is difficult to not notice the similarities between Reagan and Palin. Both are considered to only appeal to the conservative wing of the Republican Party. Both are considered to have leadership styles which allow those around them to handle the small details. Both are considered “weak” in the knowledge of foreign affairs. Both perform better in debates and interviews when they are not “handled” by their advisers. Both have the uncanny ability to speak directly to the American people. And most important, both have the ability to always campaign with a smile on their face with the idea of a future in America that is better than today.

Both are that “someone”

Democrat Governors: We Need a Bailout Too!

By Joseph Russo @ http://www.conservatives4palin.com/

And the bearded tax freak, Jon Corzine is there hat in hand:

In order to make up for the shortfalls, Corzine said the incoming Obama administration and Congress will need to free up $1 trillion in federal spending for state assistance. “We’re all going to be Herbert Hoovers if we’re not careful here,” he said.

The $1 trillion the governors are seeking would be spent to prevent cuts in social services and education, as well as “shovel ready” infrastructure projects that could begin with 18 months. The group has presented its plan to the transition team and congressional leaders. The New Jersey governor said both have been receptive to the idea.

You are already Herbert Hoover! Hoover intervened in the markets and made the recession even worse. You need cuts in social services, that is the problem Governor Corzine … do you think that you can keep increasing spending every year while you oversee a state that is losing businesses and manufacturing because of the ever increasing tax burden? Do you know that people want to leave your state because of the tax burden?

Good grief … I don’t understand why the people of New Jersey keep voting these fools into office.

What do all of these governors have in common? They are all democrats and they all oversee state governments that have some of the highest tax rates in the Union and a population that is becoming ever more reliant on their failing government programs.

I don’t understand why the answer to everything is more spending … government programs fail because government is not capable of running such programs, government does not operate to turn a profit and there is no cost control structure in place. Why do the people think that politicians in Trenton are capable of running such services?

What is a “shovel ready” program anyway? Digging a trench? How does this create lasting economic growth? As I have said before … government can create a job at any moment by hiring person A to dig a hole and then hiring person B to fill it in. These jobs don’t mean anything. Why does a state need a bailout to create infrastructure? Infrastructure should be the top priority of the state government before welfare state social programs and pumping more and more money into failing public schools. It should not take a budget crisis to realize that the state has not kept up with the building of roads and bridges.

Looking for “Someone”

The Reagan I Knew by William F. Buckley, makes for a great read. Not only does the book cover Reagan’s journey from Governor of California to the Presidency, it also contains letters exchanged between Buckley and Ronald and Nancy Reagan, which offers great insight to even the biggest Reagan fan.

Ronald Reagan is known for his great quotes, but this one from the book stands out the most:

For every problem, there are ten people waiting to volunteer if someone will give them a lead and show them where they can be useful.

This quote is great because it applies to the current state of the Republican party. We have a great “base” and grassroots network, from the fiscal conservatives to the defense hawks but we lack a competent leader, we lack what Reagan calls, “someone who can show us where we can be useful.”

The biggest qualities in a leader is not their looks, oratory, or political experience but something else. Something that can not be explained … you simply want to be part of it. We look for a leader that not only agrees with us politically but also agrees with us because they have experienced what most Americans experience everyday. They look at the problems in their local community, state and even Washington D.C. and they want to solve them, not by simply moving around chairs and replacing committee heads but by instituting REAL change.

Real change occurs when somebody attempts “crusade” of sorts, when they take on those who are not acting on the behalf of the People, even if they occupy high positions in your political party. The change the current President-elect has promised is false. False because he has never actually promoted REAL change in his hometown of Chicago. False because his political views are just the same old, same old going back to Jimmy Carter and Lyndon Johnson. They call themselves “progressives,” but what is progressive about the People submitting more and more power to the federal government? John Locke and Thomas Jefferson would call this “regressive” as the power of the individual is slowly eroded in favor of the collective.

REAL change is the result of countless hours fighting the “status quo,” which is Latin for “the mess we are in,” as Reagan once said. Real change comes about when one person, a leader, is able to persuade those around him or her to come together to promote the interests of the People.

I think we have just the right person to fill the role of Reagan’s “someone.”

A Message to Governor Palin from the future

I wrote this one back in November:
http://www.conservatives4palin.com/2008/11/message-to-governor-sarah-palin-from.html

Congratulations on your re-election Governor. Your 92%-8% landslide victory is an all-time record. Meanwhile the Alaskan economy is humming along as oil revenues are up due to demand from abroad. Premier Obama’s decision to force the country to stop using fossil fuels have paid off nicely for you. Premier Obama’s approval rating now stands at 3, as in 3 people … him, Michelle, and Joe Biden.

The Republican party has taken over control of Congress after the most recent election … they now have a 77-23 advantage in the Senate, where Al Franken has been named minority leader and Robert Byrd minority whip. In the House the GOP now controls 350 seats and Nancy Pelosi has retired to her non-union winery.

The United States has faced many problems since your bid to become the first female Vice President fell short. After destroying the military Premier Obama has hired the French navy to patrol U.S. coasts as Somali pirates continue to hold fisherman for ransom in the Delaware bay. The Big 3 in Detroit have new CEOs, they are William Ayars, Rev. Wright and Chris Dodd.

Premier Obama is facing a tough bid for the nomination of the Communist-Farmers-Socialist-Teacher’s Union-Democratic Party. His challengers include Ron Paul, Hillary Clinton and Matt Damon. He is hampered by the 15% unemployment rate and the 22% rate of inflation. His decision to allow Al-Qaeda to open an embassy in Obamapolis (formerly known as Washington D.C.) has not worked out, terrorist attacks are up 78% since this decision. Secretary of the Treasury Jon Corzine has not been able to fix the printing press as his continued bailouts have had little impact on the struggling economy. The new head of AIG, Barney Frank is forecasting a loss for 2011 and is considering firing his secretary (only remaining employee) to save money.

The new majority leader in the Senate, Jim Demint is already proposing legislation that will kill the National Health Department which is scheduled for a $567,000,000,000 deficit for the next fiscal year. Rolling blackouts throughout the country have the American people looking for reliable sources of energy … they look to Alaska to supply it. The new Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan is ready to push massive tax cuts that will drop the top rate from 99% to 15% and encourage massive economic growth. However, Premier Obama has ordered his praetorian guard (under the command of John McCain) to imprison any member of Congress who would propose such legislation. All monuments and pictures of former President Ronald Reagan have been taken down and any mention of his name will lead to a stay at GITMO, which has now been transformed into a “re-education camp” run by the NJ teacher’s union.

To help pay off the national debt, Premier Obama has given Mississippi and Alabama to Hugo Chavez in exchange that Chavez promises not to destroy our two remaining F-16s and one aircraft carrier. Canada has taken control of Maine and Vermont after Obama promised to redeploy troops to Chicago.

Governor Palin,
Will you save the Republic?

A Message to Vice President Biden from the Future

Mr. Vice President,

I hope this letter finds you well. It has been a terrible four years for your half of the “failed Obama administration.” As you know, Secretary Clinton has completely taken over the Obama foreign policy, even though you were selected as Vice President in 2008 because of your “vast foreign policy experience,” which included opposing President Reagan’s Cold War efforts, voting against the Gulf War, voting for the last Iraq War and proposing to split Iraq into three different districts. Some positive news as President Obama’s approval rating has hit a two year high of 8% after electricity finally returned to the northwestern United States. However, your approval rating stands at 0% after the press reported you “missing” shortly after the 2008 election. Your attempts to move the Vice Presidency to Article One of the Constitution have also failed miserably.

Now there are rumors that President Barack “Jimmy Carter” Obama will drop you from the ticket in the next Presidential election. Obama himself faces a tough uphill battle for the nomination. Challengers include: Rod “Hot Rod” Blagojevich (from prison), Nancy “Stretch” Pelosi” and Rev. Jeremiah Wright, whose “God Damn America” tour has taken hold in San Francisco.

Whoever wins the democratic nomination will surely go down in defeat to the Republican nominee, Governor Sarah Palin. You may remember her from your Vice Presidential debate back in 2008 (hey, that rhymes). Governor Palin was re-elected to her post in 2010 in a 95%-5% landslide against democrat challenger Bill “guy in the neighborhood” Ayers. Governor Palin enjoys 97% approval rating and her state is the only one below the national 56% unemployment average (2%). Governor Palin is currently polling at 78% in Massachusetts and New Jersey. Caroline Kennedy’s “longshot” bid for the Presidency failed because you know she you know was unable to you know close the gap with those you know working class voters, you know.

Overall, it looks to be a bleak year for the democrat party. They may have 14 Senate seats if John McCain can hold on in his special election as the new Senator from Minnesota but it doesn’t look like your son will hold on to his seat. His re-election campaign as the “Senator from Scranton” did not pay off after he realized that he actually represents Delaware. In the House, it looks like Republicans will hold a 300 seat advantage after it is all said and done. New Speaker of the House, Eric Cantor is already preparing the bill for President Palin’s signature that will drop the income tax rate from 82% to 10%.

They say this Palin is the next Ronald Reagan …

“There you go again”
“Say it isn’t so … Joe”

Best Regards,

John Edwards, President of the Hair Club for Men

Government Can Create Jobs … Just Not Real Jobs

The government has a role to play in the economy, it can either encourage an economy to grow or persuade an economy to shrink. President Kennedy stated that tax cuts creates jobs and salaries that create more jobs and salaries. This result comes about when the government helps the economy by lowering the tax burden on industry and the individual. This was also the strategy employed by Ronald Reagan as he led the United States out of the most serious recession since the Great Depression. George W. Bush also lowered taxes, which created an economic boom for most of his time in office.

The government persuades the economy to shrink when it takes over the role of “job creator” from the American people. Franklin Roosevelt believed that it was the government’s responsibility to create jobs and he was right in his belief that government can create jobs. In fact, anybody can create a job. To paraphrase the economist Milton Friedman jobs can be created simply by “handing somebody a shovel and paying him to dig a ditch and then finding somebody else to fill in the ditch.” We have theoretically created two “new” jobs. What President Roosevelt did not realize was that government can not create jobs at the expense of the private sector. President Roosevelt increased taxes to support the massive government “recovery” programs he instituted. Roosevelt honestly believed that the government could run an economy better than the private sector. His attempts to end the depression were devastating and made things worse.

Lets take a look at the minimum wage, Roosevelt saw that Americans were suffering and they were suffering because they were not receiving enough income. The problem with using a minimum wage to repair this problem is that it leads to more unemployment. Imagine that you are a business owner during the depression and you have about seven employees. You make just enough to turn a profit and you pay your workers accordingly. Now Roosevelt institutes across the board tax increases in order to fund his programs and the minimum wage. You now have to fire some workers to maintain your level of profitability and still pay the new wages and taxes. Now the nation has a few more people added to the social program’s books and now we need even more taxes to fund these programs. The higher taxes causes more businesses to fail and more people on the unemployment line.

Roosevelt also made the same mistake with prices. Wages were too low and prices were too low, so he sought to ARTIFICIALLY increase both. He saw that farmers were struggling and tried to manipulate the market price of produce by enforcing new regulations that limited the amount a farmer could plant and the price on the market.

So the point is …. “President-Elect” Obama is attempting to employ the same strategy to bring the United States out of a recession. He has proposed massive government infrastructure programs through the construction of new roads, public buildings, bridges etc. etc. etc.
But this is the same as “handing somebody a shovel” … these new infrastructure plans will only create the jobs needed for the construction and no more, when a school is built … it is built, end of story. Obama also fails to recognize that we do not live in the 1930s anymore. American citizens were more likely to be able to work as construction laborers then. After all, the hardest hit sectors of the economy included heavy manufacturing. The artificial jobs created by the government in the Great Depression could, at the very least, offer temporary employment to the out of work laborers. However, the unemployed today include many more white collar workers, such as accountants, bankers, and workers in the technology industries. The unemployed today are not nearly as prepared for heavy labor as they were in the 1930s and 1940s.

It is also important to note that FDR’s plans did nothing to ease the Great Depression.

Why? … because government can only create artificial jobs that do not lead to “more jobs and salaries that lead to more jobs and salaries.”
