That’s all pretty rich coming from Haugland. He’s the former GOP Chairman and apparent GOP muscle of a red-voting state. A red-voting state whose entire Washington delegation is Dem and has been for quite some time.

Yeah, clearly that guy knows better than Steele how to win elections and recruit candidates.

I doubt Mr. Landowner lobbyist does want an “outsider” to play in his sandbox. I’m sure all the deals are made quitely and in house up there at the RNC. We’ve seen how well our brilliant establishment runs things so how bout listening to you base once in a while.

I’m not sure Steele is the best choice to run the RNC, but I am sure the current bunch of losers don’t need to.

We still need a RINO hunt and I’m thinking the RNC is the first place to start. Conservatives need to take back the machinery of the GOP. Too many moderates are running around losing elections in honorable ways.

The RNC’s priority should be about helping Republicans get elected, not patting each other on the back and providing opportunities for current RNC’ers to get promoted within the organization. Obviously some guy who’s 1 for 2 winning elections in a blue state is too tarnished with actual knowledge of voter appeal to fit in to the RNC club.

Looks like Curly Haugland is just trying to pull the Republican brand back the way he thinks it needs to go…Hard Rightward Ho! Tacky towards Steele, perhaps, but I think Mr. Haugland has been pretty solid on who he is and what he believes and he’s willing to go public with his displeasure by putting his name to his complaints. No unnamed sniping from the shadows in ND, this time of year they’re too darn cold.

We need more people like Michael Steele who is more than qualified and gets it than the person who wrote the email to him…..the old boy network at the RNC needs to be retired….if our party is to move forward it’s out with the old in with the new

I think that we are seeing a generational change within the party. And it’s a good thing. I believe that we need to work to build the party with the next generation. The candidates for the 2010s and especially the 2020s. I think the RNC needs to be filled with people under 50 and half should be under 40. I don’t have a litmus test but I am for a good number of the committee being women. Sorry if anyone is insulted.

Here’s the thing, Mr. Haugland; do you want to the GOP to win, or do you just want a better position? Is it you think somebody else “deserves it more” than some outsider?

I believe that email is a prime example of what Steele meant. Sounds to me like the RNC doesn’t want to change if it means becoming less “country club.”

I never did donate a dime to the RNC. Attitudes like Haugland’s is one of the reasons why. Instead, I donated to individual candidates whom I thought deserved some help.

Perhaps the RNC doesn’t mind being in the wilderness as long as they can keep their illusions about Republicanism.

I still feel that the push for Steele is a knee jerk response to Obama’s election. That doesn’t mean that he won’t do a good job but much more information is needed
about him before I can stumble on to that bandwagon. And for me, Mel Martinez is a no go. He lied to me twice during his election campaign which to me is one of the
biggest problems with some of our politicians. They get to Washington, have a sip of that power kool-aid, and forget all about that representative part of our democracy.

Haugland and those like him at the RNC are the ones who pick Squish candidates to run in primaries and caucuses and then play games with the primary schedules and set us up with open primaries to make sure they win the nominations.

They are the product of a long line of Rockefeller control of our party and a network of Northeaster Establishment liberals who network and keep each other in power to freeze the riff raff that represents the majority of this party from **”exert(ing) undue influence in the process of selecting our leaders.”

but I don’t think we should just hand over the mantle to him just yet. I want to hear about the qualifications of everyone that wants the job first before I make my decision.
Whoever can come up with the best plan of reaching younger voters, making more inroads with minorities, and can bring together the social conservatives and libertarian wings of the party will get my support.
This is a dangerous time. We need to pick our leader wisely. If it’s Michael Steele, then so be it. If someone else has better ideas, then they get my support.

The Lieutenant Governor position in Maryland has much less responsibility and power than some other states like Texas, so I’m not sure that that represents the part of his resume that that would make him a good head of the RNC. OTOH, there aren’t many states more hostile to Republicans statewide than Maryland (Massachusetts, I’m looking at you), so his recruiting and party leadership work can certainly be gauged against that.

I do believe this post fits in quite nicely with Aceintx’s post with regards to who exactly is running this party and Curly seems to be the IDIOT in ND..

and they want their righteous indignation back. Oh, I’m sorry, they don’t get any because they ran a candidate who’s positions where nearly indistinguishable from his opponents and they lost. Pale pastel, bah. He was monochromatic.

The trouble with the RNC is precisely the Curly’s who are running it right now. They seem to feel we should all just shut up and fall in line with their middle of the road moderate snake oil.

Please elect Mr. Steele, or someone like him who remembers Ronald Reagan and how he won elections.

I was really impressed with his last campaign – his ads were funny and he is not a Republican ANYONE can accuse of being nasty, boring or out of touch. He’s also obviously very intelligent and charming.

I think he, Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal, Cantor, Tom Coburn, Mike Pence and Jeff Flake are people who should have more of a voice in the GOP as it moves forward.

That’s where the power in the Republcan party comes from, the grassroots. I too am appalled at the tone of his email. I will contact our RNC representatives & ask that they support an RNC chair candidate who is a true, bold-color complete conservative.
