The Sleeper Must Awaken

The slow blade penetrates the shield.

The Hope for America caught Sen. John McCain’s recent appearance on Jay Leno’s show:

Leno: Who is running the Republican Party? Is it Rush Limbaugh? I mean…

McCain: We have, I’m happy to say, a lot of voices out there: Bobby Jindal, T… Pawlenty, Huntsman, Romney, uh… Charlie Crist. There’s a lot of governors out there who are young and dynamic. Uh… Mitt Romney did a great job and continues to. There’s a lot of good people out there, and I’ve left out somebody’s name and I’m going to hear about it (laughs).

Leno: Right.

Yes, the Senator is hearing about it. Not only did he omit the name of Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina from that list of young and dynamic governors, but McCain somehow managed to “forget” the name of the running mate of his own choosing, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska. I’m sure the three months that she tirelessly campaigned with him and for him are just a blur to Maverick now, but the election was less than six months ago. This was either a thinly-veiled snub of two conservative Republican governors, or the onset of senility. You decide.

The video of this exchange is here.

Meanwhile, I have to ask. Am I the only one who sees the drive-by media as perhaps a bit, just maybe, trying to build the perfect beast here? All of a sudden it’s like she’s the sweetheart of Sigma Delta Chi or something.

Politico seems smitten:

Cable news shows want her. More than 18,000 people follow her on Twitter. And now, as The New York Observer reported Thursday, McCain has lined up a six-figure book deal with Hyperion.

While swearing she has no interest in public office, McCain says she hopes to usher in a new era of modernity and moderation for the GOP.

-snip-

In the last month, she’s appeared on Larry King, Rachel Maddow and Roland Martin. In her latest sit-down with King, on March 24, McCain made headlines by confirming her “support” for President Barack Obama.

In a feature story on Ms. McCain last year, GQ gushed:

Charming and self-deprecating, McCain Blogette often makes Meghan’s 71-year-old father seem less old, which is surely one of the reasons it exists, even if Meghan occasionally does something like refer to Barack Obama as “sexy,” which she did right before the New Hampshire primary.

Today Meghan doesn’t back off that observation at all. “He’s a rock star,” she says of the Illinois senator. “Everybody flipped out, but I think universally women find him attractive. Whatever.”

Just yesterday in her blog on The Daily Beast, she advised the Republican Party to “go gay,” and the nutroots left has gone all… well, nutty over her. There’s a silver lining to their crush on the McCain kid, however. Thanks to Megahn McCain, the leftist bloggers can catch a deep collective breath, take a break from spitting their venom at the Palin clan, and say something positive about someone other than the Obamas (On half-brother Samson Obama, they are understandably silent, preferring to just vote “present”).

So what are they promoting Megahn McCain to? Will she be the next generation of a new American political dynasty, a change agent to save the GOP from the evill wingnuts or just another gossip page rock star?

Of course, the usual suspects will spin this as just another vast rightwing conspiracy theory. Sorry, I have never questioned the president’s citizenship, nor have I ever claimed that Howard Dean is the love child of Jimmy Carter and Helen Thomas. I do confess to being open to the notion that Dennis Kucinch is the congressman from the planet Gufi Prime, but I also have a lot of company on that one.

Spin cycle:

Know then that it is the year 2009. The FreeMan Universe is ruled by the Padishah Pundit, Shazzam IV. In this time, the most precious substance in the universe is the spin. The spin extends political careers, the spin expands voter bases, the spin is vital to air time. The Talking Guild and its navigators, who the spin has mutated over 200 years, use the spin, which gives them the ability to fold speech. Oh, yes. I forgot to tell you. The spin exists on only one planet in the entire universe. A blue, lush planet with vast forests. Hidden away underneath the rocks of these forests are a people known as the Omen, who have long held a prophecy that a man would come, a messiah, who would lead them to true utopia. The planet is Dukakis, also known as Gune.

Gildmaster MahaRushdie: “We foresee a slight problem within House McCain. Megahn, Megahn McCain.”

Padishah Emperor Shazzam IV: “You mean of course Senator McCain, her father?”

Gildmaster MahaRushdie: “I mean Megahn McCain. We want her kitched. I did not say this. I am not here.”

Padishah Emperor Shazzam IV: “I understand.”

Muad’Dweeb: “Father, the sleeper has awakened!”

    of “and”.

LOL, you knew somebody was going to say it.

This was … a thinly-veiled snub of two conservative Republican governors, [and] the onset of senility.

    I vote both.

McCain seems oblivious to the fact that by dissing his own choice for VP he disses himself.

At this point, he has no reason to care, I suppose. He has announced he will run for re-election. I’ll be among those who support his opponent in the primary, even if it’s a Jenny from the Grand Canyon Trail Ride.

      As for Meghan? Get serious.

    • skorrent1

I’m older than Johnnie Mac, I emphatically reject senility! It must be either a snub, or a result of his POW experience which his campaign kept reminding us of. ;<)

    Folks,

This may offend a few… but McCain is an absolute crybaby! He’s upset that Palin stole the show, upstaged him with her conservative message, then pouts because he lost!

I think the wrong person was at the top of the ticket!

For him to “diss” Gov. Palin and try to marginalize her for the future is just appalling, and frankly, low brow, and very low class!

You folks in Arizona… send him packing next time around, its time for him to retire, and frankly he and quite a few others in the Senate such as Biden, Spector, Schumer, Boxer, Feinstein, Kennedy, (geez this list can be lengthy…), Kerry, Reid, et. al. are nothing more than diapered poster children for TERM LIMITS!!

One term for Senators, two terms for Congressmen.. THATS IT!

You’d be surprised how many laws WONT get passed if these idgits had to live under them. Hmm…. there is a quote from a founding father to this effect… How prophetic…

      I don’t want him here.

I don’t want him here either. The problem is that a large portion of McCain’s campaign funds come from OUTSIDE Arizona. He drives many Republicans here crazy.

I agree too, he is one of the many poster boys for term limits.

However, there is some satisfaction that McCain was hung on his own petard; campaign finance laws.

I thought Jay’s last show was on Good Friday… which I missed due to mother nature’s three hour blackout causing storm upon arrival back home from Spring break… ugh.

In defense of Sen. McCain’s “Litany of Possible Presidential Candidates”, big deal. Gov. Palin’s selection was tactical, he’s that kind of retired Navy Captain. It was an excellent selection as seen by the base despite the McCain campaign’s execution of media and scheduling for Alaska’s successful governor.

Even our beloved President Reagan offered no favoritism in the selection process. When it comes to 2012, with respect to many of the rock star republican governors, cannot we wait for 2010 and 2011 elections before pontificating?

      • AKSteveB

but it is classless to play a snarky little game like that on Leno “and I?ve left out somebody?s name and I?m going to hear about it (laughs).” I’m no Palin fan, but this incident says more about McCain than it does about Palin.

        • McKinley

I don’t see a moral obligation for McCain to say Governor Palin when asked by Leno to list the leadership of the Republican Party, but the remark at the end was utterlly tactless.

Although I do not think much of her as politician or her potential as a spokeswoman for the conservative movement, I admire Governor Palin for her grace after being thrown into the spotlight, her doggedness as a campaigner and her character when contrasted with the backstabbers within the McCain campaign.

John McCain is a no class old fool and his daughter is following in his footsteps. These two should be ignored. Let’s hope McCain’s next election reflects that.

How the “American Public” wants them to “work together.”…. NO MR MCLAME – the complete percentage of Folks that voted for you and the countless numbers that either sat out the Election or are now regretting their falling for the ObamaBinBiden-Cult-hypnotism (read: LIES) ALL want you to OPPOSE THE SOCIALISM we were warning the Nation was coming under an Obama regime!!!!

Mr. McCain…. you are NO LONGER RELEVANT — RETIRE!!!! The moron is just trying to be a place-holder for his daughter to get old enough to take the seat. The McLame branch of the GOP must be relegated to the Minority forever!

    • http://hillbillypolitics.com Steph C

      regretting their choice now, too.

  • Dencal26

McCain continues to be a tool of the left wing. I voted for McCain very reluctantly but would have stayed home had it not been for Sarah Palin. Time for McCain to retire from Senate,

    • Martin Knight

Everyone; please contrast the comment above here, with the one here.

Do we or do we not have a moby on our hands here?

this person is just one of those folks that has been asleep at the switch and happily lapping up the MSM dribble but now FINALLY waking up to discover that he/she has been bamboozled…. or, yes, a Moby… but we can HOPE! ;-)

Time will tell… it would be nice to see an admission of this persons political inexperience and that they are HOPE-ing to learn …. There are some actual folks out there that may finally be seeing the Light and more and more of the “Progressive” Darkness descends on them!

And who is his GOP primary challenger? I’d like to know who to make my check out to.

    • http://www.ssce.net/Web-Articles/Web-articles-indexed-authors.html#authors-l JLenardDetroit

I thought he was toying with challenging McLame, but haven’t heard anything lately…. I sure hope someone is going to at least call McLame out and beat up on him during a Primary (at least, but hopefully win).

Hayworth has his own issues (personality wise mostly, but we need some very vocal types raising CAIN not the McCain BS), but who doesn’t!?!? We can’t have everything, but we must at least take steps in the right direction.

  • smitch61

Thanks John, but no thanks. You have overstayed your welcome up at the big house. You are a true American hero and we appreciate your service.

Lets get one thing clear…… You will no longer dictate who or whom shall be the leader in the upcoming election, or who the next up and coming is for the GOP. I know we may hear about it tomorrow, but you have been dissed. In case you are not aware, or if your daughter has not told you, We voted for SARAH in the last election, and would have settled for you.

I am willing to bet there are more Palin supporters out here than there are McCain supporters so bring it on. Sarah Palin has more in common with the folks than you and would bring the appropriate change to DC on our behalf and not on the behalf of the Washington elite. We are no longer interested in your opinion but thanks for playing.

In closing I will remind you that the American people will determine who the next leader of the GOP shall be. I am quite certain it will be a conservative candidate. Have a chit chat with your friend Joe, perhaps they have an extra chair on the opposite side of the isle which is where you are more comfortable.

  • mbauer

The title is not directed to the op, but the comments. You all show some class. Get past the fanboy name calling

    • $peciallist

      and what’s a ‘fanboy’?

      • mbauer

A fanboy is often used to describe a video gamer who like’s his / her brand of console no matter what over all the others. The other consoles are 100% flawed, his own is 100% perfect. I often think of this term when I talk about the kos kids because it’s frankly the level of maturity they show.

I’m 23, and really just became “politically aware” 2 years ago. One reason I prefer the right, is that they are so much more consistently intelligent. This is often proved by the level of our discourse. I’m a glutton for pain, and take the time to read the far right and far left blogs every day to ensure that I’m still confident my worldview (Fred Thompson Conservatism, to put it in 3 words) is correct. This makes reading redstate all the greater pleasure generally but diaries like this (and again, I emphasize the comments, not the original post) take away from that.

        • $peciallist

          i was name-calling… :)

lighten up….’We can Multitask’..(always wanted to say that)

looks like you have some ‘Fredibility’, keep it up

          • http://www.ssce.net/Web-Articles/Web-articles-indexed-authors.html#authors-l JLenardDetroit

welcome aboard mbauer…. glad you took it well…. you did well to NOT get all offended and bent out of shape… you will learn that there are a few of us that like to “lighten things up” along the way and “bash” in a jesting manner….

Just tread lightly ’til you get to know some of us and we get to know you.

We want THINKERS around here… Not just Parrots (like DailyKook and HuffPooPoo is for the Left) for any certain Right-side characters (Paul-ites have been an issue here)…. Stand for IDEALS not a singular Personality and you’ll be fine…. People will come and go, win and lose, what has to remain is that you develop a solid core of the Conservative ideals you claim to be starting to embrace – no doubt over everyone in the Indoctrination Factories tried to ensure could never happen!

It is the moronic Style over Substance, Cult of Personality, that is Obama that is part of the problem. We “Conservatives” want to make sure people recognize the “core” of what they are supporting…. Again, It has to be Principles not Personalities…. People who ultimately only support one person, aren’t principled just Cultists. Certainly, you (and everyone, including me) has their first choices, but if you (and not saying you will, just sayin’ this in general terms, you and/or anyone) that walks away with a “my ball, and I’m going to take it and go home” just because your first choice isn’t “the Choice” come Election day is NOT HELPFUL AT ALL in the long run.

Anyway…. hopefully you’ll get it over time…. People who finally get the wake-up call from having been in slumber are usually awakened by an INDIVIDUAL that had “reached” them…. Well…. anyway… things take time…. Take in all the discussions over the YEARS and Context will start to become clear. You did NOT get here overnight, and you becoming and fully understanding how “Conservative” you really are won’t happen overnight either! Discovering all those that came before you and will come after us when we are gone are plentiful (that, Cult of Personality hangup I’m warning of again) and a movement is only valid if it transcends the “personalities” and stands the test of time that Conservatism (this Nations FOUNDING VALUES) does!

    • janis

him given the amount of bile we all had to swallow to try and get his pasty old butt elected. And I guarantee that most of us tried harder to get the job done than HE did.

  • Josh

I don’t think he was slighting Gov. Palin. If you look at McCain’s comments over the last few months he has said time and time again that he loves and respects Gov. Palin. He also has mentioned her every other time and always ends with the caveat, “I’m sure I’m forgetting someone.”

Last time he left Mitt Romney off the list, this time he included him.

This is the left’s attempt to make something out of nothing.

    • Josh Painter

but you don’t “forget” the name of someone you selected to be the nominee of the Republican Party for the vice presidency of the United States. You don’t forget the name of someone you intensively campaigned with for three solid months, day in and day out.

You forget the name of the guy who said, “Hi, my name is ____, and I’ll be you waiter tonight” several days ago,

the fact that he had to be pushed into half-heartedly defending her against staff smears.

      • http://www.ssce.net/Web-Articles/Web-articles-indexed-authors.html#authors-l JLenardDetroit

…. let me just give him one break…. it is possible he may have thought he did already mention her name…. obviously he needs to memorize the list in a particular order to get it right each time….. It is possible it was an honest mistake…. while it is “possible,” as I said, I too am skeptical it was…. Just sayin’ it is possible…. and I too will return to bashing McCain now… ;-)
