MEMBER DIARY

Two Shootin’ Tools for Sister Sarah

NRA members, keep an eye out for your copy of May’s American Rifleman, if it hasn’t already arrived. According to the latest edition of the magazine, Bob Reynolds, gunsmith and owner of Templar Consulting LLC, will make a special presentation at the NRA Foundation Banquet on May 14.

It’s a modified AR-15 (civilian version of the milspec M16 rifle), specially customized in honor of Gov. Sarah Palin and dubbed “The Alaskan Hunter”:

Chambered for .50 Beowulf instead of the standard 5.56mm cartridge, this special AR features several custom engravings. The Big Dipper is on the magazine well, an outline of the state of Alaska is on the stock, and on the upper receiver are a moose, the NRA logo and an inscription, “In Honor of Governor Sarah Palin.”

“Gov. Palin stood up and announced she was a supporter of the Second Amendment,” says Reynolds. “I was really excited about that. I feel like the NRA has done a lot for my rights. And I feel the Governor has, too. I just wanted to do something to give back. And since the Governor lives in Alaska, I thought .50 Beowulf was appropriate.”

Reynolds actually made two of these very special AR’s. One will be presented to the governor, and the other will be auctioned at the Banquet.

That sound you hear is being made by Palin-haters’ heads (spontaneously) exploding.

…if they’re standing in front of the Governor after she receives her presentation. Or in front of the winner of the auction. :)

      heads explode? – yes
      spontaneously? – no
      serious? – not

The .50 Beowulf round isn’t exactly inexpensive. Very fun to play with, but these rounds tend to go for $3.50 each and more.

    Still, I don’t imagine she’ll complain. ;)

Personally, I’d love to get my hands on a 308-chambered AR15 style weapon, but haven’t managed to save up the money yet. Oh well, on the wish list.

DPMS Panther Arms. Contact them for your wishes. You may be surprised on the pricing.

Cheers from a VERY satisfied DPMS Panther AR owner !

They could be if somebody else paid for a trip, but she has the PAC for that. I don’t know what that weapon is worth, but the stock version of it is $12 – 1500. You can’t accept a $15 meal under that Ethics Act reform she’s so proud of.

Leaving last week wasn’t the smartest thing she’s ever done. Directors and commissioners wouldn’t dare leave the State until the budget closed out. She left when she had appointees pending confirmation, two of which she lost, including the NRA one, and the budgets weren’t settled. I’ve never known a govenor to leave in the last week or so of a Legislative session.

What’s the worm’s eye Alaska political point of view on the State creamery kerfuffle ?

Reading some junk about it on the net, and the lady who’s name escapes me who was tied up in it and the new PAC Governor Palin is launching.

          • Achance

from the Matanuska Valley, the esrtwhile New Deal attempt to have family farms at 60 degrees North latitude and 11,000 heating degree days. Wasilla is in the Mat Valley; that should tell you a lot.

Back in the day, Alaska actually had a lot of diaries. Milk was Godawful expensive but you could get it from local sources. Mat Maid was the last of the breed. A combination of Teamsters wages and conditions and competition from Washington milk brought up on fast container ships and refrigerated containers did it in. ‘Course, the State stepped in to bail it out, but even the State couldn’t throw enough money at it. So, in her first year, the Board of Mat Maid said they were closing the creamery and liquidating it. Well that would leave some Mat Valley dairies with no place to dispose of their milk. They would have to sell or destroy their milk cows. Well, these are Sarah’s homeys. Sarah stepped in and prevented closing it, fired the whole board and put Friends of Sarah in charge, including some real estate agent (or some such, not a farmer or Ag major) friend of hers as the Director of the Division of Agriculture. Anyway, in the overall scheme of things Alaska has wasted money on, Mat Maid was far from the worst, but Sarah was far more panderer than reformer. Even Sarah Palin can do politics as usual. Can’t visualize her steppng in to save a business in Juneau, though.

          • SteveLA

Fresh Alaskan milk is vital, how else are you going to make an Alaskan Black and White Russian?

Geesh Art, you should know that.

The entire legislature took off for two weeks in the middle of their “grueling” 90 day session. Not a word was said.

Many legislators have serious attendance issues.

Even better, they we in RECESS while the Governor was in Indiana! Took the day off! The chambers were empty!

Are you one of the paid ACORN agitators who go around spreading BS and hoping it will stick?

Governors leave their states all of the time, for all kinds of reasons, both political and not. In 50 years I have NEVER seen the kind of BS this woman has to put up with from a bunch of deranged little loons!

All of you, need to be locked up in the loony bin until you get yourself sorted out!

          • Aaron Gardner

you are getting good at this baseless accusation stuff Gary.

If she accepts and keeps it, she catchs all Hell on Ethics Act grounds. Under that Ethics reform she’s so proud of, you can’t even accept somebody picking up the tab for a $15 meal. If she accepts it for the State, she catches all Hell from the anti-gun types, though probably not so much here.

    • mom2oneson

Can she pay for it and keep the receipt? Should she just not accept it?

      • Achance

There’s some provision for an elected official to receive gifts, but it wouldn’t be worth it for her especially. Or any Republican really; Democrats can accept gifts because they’re good people, Republicans are engaged in graft and corruption if they accept a gift.

  • BlueStateSaint

Remington R-25. Or, if you want something a tad lighter, wait until June and gran a Remington R-15 in the new .30 Remington AR round. If you want to read up on it, get the Shooting Times for June of ’09 or the Gun World for May of ’09. I’ve got both issues. Almost makes me want to get one.

  • Marcus_Traianus

    Just sayin……..

    • Achance

on the anti-gun theme, but there’ll be plenty lining up to complain about the gift.

Seeing this made my day, even though I’m a FAL freak.

I know some idiot will find a way to make an ethics violation out of this, but this rifle is one thing worth taking the hit for. I can’t wait to see this rifle in her hands.

    • Achance

A public officer can’t accept anything of consequential value under Alaska law. No Gifts. That ain’t a Sarah thing; that’s an everybody thing. It’s just that Sarah tightened the rules and made a big effin’ issue about how pure she was. It’s kinda that your own pitard thing.

      • http://sarahs-accomplishments.blogspot.com/ Ron Devito

Can she accept it and give it to the state? Or is that “unethical” too? And if you can’t be civil, don’t bother responding.

        • mbecker908

Governor Palin has been in office for almost three years. So far, with the exception of the ethics crap that you’re so enamored of, she has yet to actually “accomplish” anything. Well, unless you would call encouraging her staffers (and herself) to use private email accounts for public business; spending $500M of the state’s money on a pipeline contract with no pipeline in the offing; pissing off the REPUBLICAN members of the House and Senate to the point that they are pretty consistently voting against her; and now, being rightly accused of violating the ethics standards that she wrote.

She may wade through this crap – of her own making – but I gotta tell you, as a guy who happens to like her on the stump, she’s no shining star when it comes to actually getting things done. Let’s see if she gets reelected next year for starters. If not, she’s just another Mitt Romney wanna be, “one-term-and-up”. If so, let’s see what she is able to accomplish with a Republican House and Senate. Because based on her performance so far, she’d last about a minute in DC.

Oh, and while we’re at it, I find this really illuminating…

Can she accept it and give it to the state? Or is that ?unethical? too?

Obviously you don’t actually know anything about what you’re whining about do you. Note, that wasn’t a question. You really need to learn how to do your own research on things before you make an ass of yourself in public. Although, given your performance on Governor Palin in past diaries, we all know that making an ass of yourself in public doesn’t seem to be a problem for you.

        • Aaron Gardner

I know some idiot will find a way to make an ethics violation out of this, but this rifle is one thing worth taking the hit for. I can?t wait to see this rifle in her hands.

          A preemptive ad hominen…don’t see those that often…well done…not.

          • http://sarahs-accomplishments.blogspot.com/ Ron Devito

The “some idiot” reference was not a reference to anyone on this board.

My position is that every ethics violation against Governor Palin so far has been little more than harassment. The “idiot” reference was to those who file the actual complaints — not to any Red State members.

          • mbecker908

are an ignorant idiot. And a damned fool. You have proved time and again you don’t actually KNOW anything about Alaska politics, Alaska personalities, Alaska law or the issues in Alaska that are important to actual Alaskans. You make a complete fool of yourself every time you post relative to Governor Palin. Go start your own blog.

      • http://thespeechatimeforchoosing.blogspot.com/ Gary

        How hard is it?
        .
Don’t answer, I’m certain you ain’t smart enough.

She can accept it for the state. Even better, she could accept it for the state, then action it for charity. It would raise big money for what ever charity she wanted to donate it to.

The more I see you harp on ethics reforms, the more I am convinced that you were one of the ones caught up in corruption.

        No wonder you are unhappy!

  • Josh Painter

If you can’t make your point without calling someone names, then it says more about you than it does them.

    • mbecker908

Josh, your commentary on Governor Palin has always been – at least IMWO – reasonable, thoughtful and well researched. Ronnie boy can’t make any of those claims.

      • Josh Painter

one member telling another that his argument is not reasonable, not thoughtful and/or not well-researched. I have a big problem when someone resorts to saying “thou fool.”

        - JP

        • mbecker908

Governor Palin is concerned, he is absolutely a fool. He has yet to post a single comment or diary that is even poorly researched, let alone well researched, on the Governor.

    • Aaron Gardner

Gov. Palin simply cannot accept the gift…it will be an ethics violation. I hope she knows this and avoids the whole mess. This does nothing to help her and will be used against her.

This is what I don’t get about peoples reaction to Art…most of the time he is actually doing a better job looking out for Gov. Palin then her own staffers are.

Oh and for the record…I like your coverage and I like Palin…I just hope she doesn’t fall for these traps that are set up before her.

    • Achance

I might even be the “idiot” that files the Ethics Act complaint. God knows her minions have threatened me with enough of them. Sauce and all that, you know.

  • Josh Painter

“Some idiot” is an abstraction, But Art called Ron a fool. Art started it.

I have no problems with spirited debate here, but when you call a fellow member a name, you’ve lost your argument, even if you were in the right on the merits of the argument.

Art is a very smart guy, and he has an excellent command of the language. He could have easily won his point without resorting to an ad hominem.

There’s no need for that crap here.

    - JP

    • http://sarahs-accomplishments.blogspot.com/ Ron Devito

      Josh,

Thank you. I just posted above…the “idiot” reference was to those who have filed actual ethics complaints against the Governor; it was NOT a reference to anyone on Red State.

      • Achance

One wouldn’t be an idiot to file an Ethics Act complaint against her for accepting it. She’s the ethical one who took on all us old boys and cleaned things up and all that crap. There are legislators in federal prison right now for accepting less.

    • Aaron Gardner

Art made the point upthread that this would be an ethics violation…I am pretty sure Ron read that and that his comment was more than likely intended to be seen by Art.

Additionally i would consider what Art said an ad hominem…Ron was being foolish. And it would be foolish for Gov. Palin to accept the gift knowing that it would be used against her.

You and Ron are in totally different categories as far as Palin supporters go…I mean I am sure you wouldn’t encourage Gov. Palin to knowingly commit an ethics violation.

      • Aaron Gardner

          See the dictionary…

fool. (n.d.). The American Heritage? Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition. Retrieved April 24, 2009, from Dictionary.com website: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/fool
          ?noun
          1. a silly or stupid person; a person who lacks judgment or sense.
          4. an ardent enthusiast who cannot resist an opportunity to indulge an enthusiasm

Ron has repeatedly shown that he has a complete absence of judgment with respect to the Governor. He has written at length here at Redstate on the Governor and my problem with his pieces – both diaries and comments – is his complete lack of knowledge about the facts of his subjects. He makes sweeping statements based on nothing more than assumptions that he tries to pass off as facts. He is utterly ignorant about Alaska politics and he completely ignores everything that doesn’t fit his world view, which seems to be that Sarah Palin should be President because he thinks so. The guy has yet to make a single argument about the Governor that had any factual basis in context.

I will give him credit for being enthusiastic. But then again, Obama’s supporters are enthusiastic too. And no, I’m not comparing the Governor to Obama, I’m comparing fools. This fool has simply worn out his welcome on this subject – and he did it a long time ago.

          • Josh Painter

“an unlikable person ; especially : one who is cruel, rude, or small-minded.”

But that’s no excuse to call a fellow RS member a jerk.

I can say that he or she is behaving in a cruel, small-minded and/or rude manner. That’s not an ad hominem attack.

Like it says below the comment window, “Be respectful, or be banned.”

            - JP

          • Aaron Gardner

because he was being foolish. That is the only word I would know to use for someone who is encouraging a person they like and respect to commit political suicide.

          • mbecker908

Ron should be thankful that the moderators don’t include respect for the truth or respect for basic research in that definition. Because he is neither. Ron is nothing more than a flack who can’t seem to put two rational thoughts together in the same lifetime when it comes to Governor Palin. Oops, I’m wrong. Make that “one rational thought”.

Posters here have consistently deconstructed every single argument he’s made with respect to Governor Palin since he’s been here. He’s been shown to be completely ignorant of the facts of EVERY situation he’s commented or diaried about. Including this one. He wears his ignorance like badge of honor.

It’s long past time that we faced the reality of Ron. The guy is an ignorant fool with an axe to grind and he doesn’t have basic tools to grind it. He wouldn’t know a rational argument if hit him in the forehead and he certainly wouldn’t know a “fact” or the “truth” if it was in neon lights in his living room. Pointing out the fundamental fact – proven over 5 months and nine days and reflected in every post he’s made on the Governor – that he’s a fool.

        • Achance

He made the categorical statement that anyone who filed an Ethics Act complaint against her if she accepted a gift worth over $1000 was an “idiot.” To which I replied that he was a fool. She’s the one who carries on about how ethical she is and how she cleaned up the “old boys” and reformed the ethics here. He holds forth on this all the time, so he should know that accepting such a gift on her own behalf would be a per se violation of the Ethics Act, in it’s pre-Palin form or its current form.

Except for the fact that neither I nor my clients need the additional controversy, I might file it myself; God knows her minions have threatened me and other people I know enough times with Ethics Act complaints. ‘Course, I didn’t start a legal defense fund and whine, I sat at this keyboard and wrote the Ethics Attorney and the Commissioner of Administration detailing all the ethics issues I’d like to discuss with witnesses under oath and in a public forum with the media present; haven’t heard from them since.

  • Doc Holliday

if he made a .50 that is even reasonable, he is a hell of a ‘smith. I hope it has the bayonet lug, the pick should have a bayonet, remember, they were banned by the Clinton Gun Ban, you know all those scary bayonet charges.

    • Achance

bought a bunch of them for boarding weapons; they wanted one shot knock down, something a .223 can’t reliably do. Plus it will penetrate the go-fast boats they often intercept in the drug trade. I suspect that it would be hard to hit anything smaller than the broad side of a barn with the second or third shot, though. Muzzle whip and rise is bad enough on the .223 AR and Mini-14; it must be something with a .50 on the same frame. It seems to have something like a M-4 or M-14 style flash hider/muzzle brake, but I think I’d want a dedicated muzzle brake on that thing. I think there is a breaching version with a breacher-style muzzle break that is said to be as good as a shotgun as a door opener.

NRA should be careful on how this thing will reach the hands of Sarah.

It’s just a shame some folks are incapable of enjoying things.
