SarahPAC raised $733,000 in five months

Palin's PAC has raised another $200K since the reporting deadline.

That’s right, five months — not six —  bacause as Allah notes at Hot Air — SarahPAC wasn’t fully operational until the end of January:

“By comparison, Romney’s PAC raised $1.4 million through the end of May, but then fundraising is pretty much Mitt’s full-time gig these days and he already has a polished team around him left over from the primaries. Let’s see what happens in the second half when he and Palin go toe-to-toe.”

Not only that, but as Meg Stapleton told Politico:

SarahPAC was actually ‘dark,’ meaning it took in no money, from a period in mid-April until early June as Palin focused on raising money for her legal-defense fund instead.

Most of the money the Palin PAC raised came from small donors:

“SarahPAC, reported strong support from small donors in its mid-year report.

SarahPAC reported $733,000 in total receipts through June 30, of which $420,000 was ‘unitemized’ or from donors who contributed $200 or less.”

In true Politico snarky fashion, writer John Bresnahan sniffs that SarahPac only made two contributions — $5,000 each to the reelection campaigns of Sen. John McCain, and Sen. Lisa Murkowski. That should at least put to rest the speculation about Gov. Palin challenging her state’s senior senator in 2010.

SarahPAC spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton seems pleased with the political action committee’s performance:

“It was a great first half. Just to put it in perspective, we did it with one event and one e-mail from the governor back in February.”

At The Fix, Chris Cillizza itemizes the operating expenses incurred by the governor’s PAC:

“Palin’s largest expenditure went to ‘Edonation.com/Campaign Solutions’, the fundraising company run by Becki Donatelli and based in Alexandria, Virginia. Sarah PAC doled out roughly $106,000 to the firm for fundraising during the first six months of the year. Donatelli and Palin parted ways in late April.”

“Palin also paid several Sarah PAC staffers monthly stipends including former Republican National Committee finance director Timothy Crawford ($6,000/month), personal/political spokesman Meg Stapleton ($4,000/month) and PAC spokeswoman Pam Pryor ($6,000/month). Palin also made a series of $8,000 payments to IzzyLene Consulting, an Anchorage-based consulting firm.”

Cillizza’s verdict:

“Palin’s showing is… a sign that she can raise cash at the national level and that she will be a player in the 2010 midterm elections if she, as expected, chooses to involve herself in downballot races.”

“It is all the more impressive given the chaos that surrounded her operation — and herself — over the first half of 2009. If Palin can spend her time out of office organizing a serious national effort, these numbers suggest the financial support is out there to help her.”

The Fix also has a late report that Gov. Palin’s PAC is off to a good start in its fundraising for the next reporting period:

“Palin has collected at least $200,000 more for Sarah PAC since the reporting period closed at the end of last month, according to a source familiar with the numbers. Palin’s resignation — announced on July 3 — triggered a flood of donations to the PAC, the source added.”

USA Today’s On Politics blog notes:

“Among the donors: prominent Republican adviser Fred Malek, who gave nearly $3,700.”

When she actually gets to fundraising her numbers...

JadedByPolitics Monday, July 13th at 6:56PM EDT (link)

will be HUGE! I have given to her PAC and will again so it is continuous money for the PAC as long as they do not get out of control paying for top end people forgetting to work the grassroots. They will need some money as well and we know a bottom up grassroots organization will be one that succeeds!

The entire Republican Party will need people like me to spread the word against support this woman if Sarah is trying to set the table to run an Independent campaign in 2012. A three way presidential contest means that Barack Obama wins reelection.

Think about it. Sarah is touting that her son is not a Republican. Todd wasn’t a Republican.

The last thing we need is a erun of Perot ‘92. We all know what happened that year.

she didnt particularly say

victor_cocchia Monday, July 13th at 7:49PM EDT (link)

that she was going to support Democrats, she was saying it as a hypothetical that she would if they were conservative enough. I think it was more rhetoric because we know that even a “conservative” democrat wont share our same ideals.

..but if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little if at all inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow-citizens. This appears to me the only substitute that can be devised for a standing army, and the best possible security against it, if it should exist.

She said she could campaign for *conservative* Democrats. How many of those can you name?

She only said that to send a message to the GOP establishment: If it doesn’t start listening to the grassroots, the elephant is dead.

Really, it wasn’t all *that* nuanced.

adamy Monday, July 13th at 7:12PM EDT (link)

Even at that, let’s look at conservative Democrats. Heath Shuler voted for Pelosi to be speaker. So did Chet Edwards. Those conservative Democrats allowed Pelosi to bring that monstrosity of a climate bill to the floor.

Are these the people Palin wants to support? Because if they are then all it means is that we are going to have to crawl out of a deeper hole to get the majority back.

I’d love to hear exactly which “conservadems” Palin wants to support.

That's the point.

adamy Monday, July 13th at 7:44PM EDT (link)

If that was so obvious then she wouldn’t have said it.

You know what I think? I think Sarah is just in it for Sarah. She is saying this because her ego got bruised because not everyone in the GOP is ready to bow down and crown her queen.

She’s angry that she has gotten something less than 100 percent all along for the GOP despite some of her less than stellar performances and now she wants to stick it to the party.

You know what else? Republicans have a climate bill to oppose and an attempt to nationalize 1/7 of the economy by the Democrats. Maybe Sarah ought to talk about actual issue, instead of supporting Democrats, or just retreat from the limelight. Every second Republicans spend debating whether or not Palin is a good icon for our party is wasted and could be better spent arguing against leftwing policy,

I’m here to sound the warning alarm that some of this “Sarah PAC” money may be used in ways that are counter to the interests of Republicans and the Red State community.

So you want the money to go to Democrats?

Do you want the money to pay for a third-party campaign that would undermine our party’s nominee in 2012?

That’s why.

What do you mean "our" party?

Josh Painter Monday, July 13th at 8:19PM EDT (link)

Are you making the assumption that all of us at RS are Republicans? There are more than a few here who are independent conservatives. Conservatives have been leaving the party since it had both houses of congress and the White House, yet still could not borrowing and spending like a drunken Democrat. They will not go back, and they will not open their checkbooks for the GOP unless and until it proves to them that it is committed to conservative principles. So far, it has not shown any signs that it has the first clue to use to find its Reagan roots.

Ronald Reagan’s 11th commandment was not to speak ill of another Republican.

His 12th commandment could have been to not fund Democrats.

I appreciate the fact that some are frustrated with some of our current crop of elected Republicans. Voting for a Republican and sending money his way are two different things.

I don’t trust Palin. The only surefire way to advance conservatism is to help Republicans win. Warts and all, having Republican majorities in congress is far preferable to having Democrats in control. Sarah’s “Support me as titular head of the party or I will go off the reservation and give aid and comfort to the enemy” approach is not amusing to me.

You can name the number of “conservative democrats” on half of one hand, if that many. She was making a point about conservatism.

Don’t get your panties in a wad over this. It’s not that big a deal. There are a lot of other reasons to be cheesed off at Palin than that statement. The whole resignation thing has been hashed out here already, so there’s no reason to go into it again - but I’m a lot more annoyed at Palin over that, much more so than this tempest in a teapot.

I’m sure most people who think Peggy Noonan was right don’t trust Palin. But there are quite a few conservatives across the land who don’t trust Noonan. But more importantly, they don’t trust a Republican Party which is looking more like the Democrat Party with each passing day.

What is critical to the survival and revival of the GOP is to get back in touch with its base and prove to them that it really wants be the party which is defined by its platform.

It’s not going to be an easy sell, but the grassroots is willing to give them one more chance. After that, the GOP has lost these activists for good and with them, its soul.

You’re setting up a false dichotomy. I have plenty of issues with the current incarnation of the GOP. Yes, it is in some ways, looking too much like the Democrat Party. Yes we absolutely do need to get in touch with the base and go back to basic principles.

But you and I have very different estimations of Palin’s ability to communicate and lead.

Being unable to effectively communicate a coherent message and quitting midway through term one is a big red flag for me.

if the diarist is suggesting that fund raising is a good metric to measure a candidates popularity and their viability than it is important that Romney has raised twice as much as Palin.

Why is it important keeper?

Vegas_Rick Monday, July 13th at 11:22PM EDT (link)

Romney has an existing network and has been working at it full time.

Apples and oranges?

So you are saying that SarahPAC

keeper Monday, July 13th at 11:36PM EDT (link)

isn’t as established as Romney’s people and is not working full time so therefor its OK for her not to raise nearly as much money as Romney. I gu as VPess perhaps but if she is to be a serious contender she’ll need to pick up her game.

I guess you could also argue that even with her new found celebrity status and constant media exposure given her high profile National campaign for VP she hasn’t been able to come close to Romney’s fund raising ability. He’s been nowhere in the media yet out raised her handily.

That's exactly what I'm saying.

Vegas_Rick Monday, July 13th at 11:44PM EDT (link)

Are you saying that, as a full-time Governor, she’s been able to assemble a ground network anywhere near the size of the one Romney carries over from his campaign? Really?

Second, one raises money through personal appearances. Romney has been doing plenty. Palin has had to stay home.

I’m sure she’ll “pick up her game.” Let’s talk in six months, hero.

By that point, we’ll know how loyal Palin is to conservatism and the Republican party by her actions. The big news will be in the next reporting session where Sarah has had opportunity and time to raise that money. If she raises more or is equal to Romney will you then come back to say GOOD JOB or will you find another reason to make it seem like not much of a big deal?

Palin's not looking to be 3rd party or fund Dems

She’s looking to defeat them. Let’s remember 1994, which is the stuff of nightmares for Democrats. Remember the numbers of Democrat congressmen who ran ads touting how much closer their voting record was to Newt than to Clinton’s agenda. With the trajectory of the Obama administration, approval numbers should be low.

To save their hide, do you think some Dems may seek the blessing of a very polular big draw like Palin? Of course they would. Dem leadership knows they are way weaker than their numbers in congress - they were hurt by the party switchers in the 1990’s & don’t want that to start up again.

There may be some swipe at the impotent blue-bloods in the Republican party but make no mistake, she is aiming at the Dems.

YES! So the last thing the party needs is for Palin to give vulnerable Dems cover, right?

Conservative Dems only exist in conservative districts. So what a good and loyal Republican does is DEFEAT conservative Dems - not give them cover to say that they are distant from Obama. You paint the Dems as being OF THE PARTY OF OBAMA.

How do you think the Democrats were able to wipe out so many Republicans in the past four years? They tied every GOP congressman to Bush.

If he was still a Democrat but had his same positions opposing gun control, TARP, closing GITMO, and redefining marriage, would you be angry with Sarah Palin if she campaigned for him?

David123

Nice try but no dice.

adamy Monday, July 13th at 9:54PM EDT (link)

Shelby USED to be a Democrat. But he saw the writing on the wall and switched sides. If Democrats want to become Republicans and act like Republicans then by all means it would be great for any Republican to aid in fundraising.

But that’s not what Palin said.

Just what we need, fewer Republicans!

Doc Holliday Tuesday, July 14th at 12:04AM EDT (link)

seriously, what is going on here? We are supposed to be uniting because we keep LOSING! So now we are going to split up this band hand some more? Palin has only lost two offices since she has been on the national stage, one of which she quit.

Now she says she would campaign for Democrats and there are rumors of a third party. If Sarah has so many fans she needs to focus on helping us get Republicans elected in 2010 period. She needs to actually succeed at something before we even consider her for another elected office.

Molon Labe!

And...

adamy Monday, July 13th at 9:57PM EDT (link)

If Shelby were STILL a Democrat he would STILL be voting for Reid for majority leader. The way to stop cap and tax and all this other nonsense from reaching the floor is to win back the majority.

If Shelby were a Dem and Palin campaigned for him then that just means Reid has one extra vote for committee chairmanships.

and yet adamy we have three R's that voted for the stimulus...

JadedByPolitics Monday, July 13th at 10:11PM EDT (link)

which throws your argument out the window….NO ONE can be counted on in the GOP for Conservative bonafide’s except their vote. You cannot say Shelby would vote for Reid etc if he were still a D…he might break with his party like the two traitors in the NE and Specter did to our party.

One NEVER knows what they are getting until that person votes period. The bottom line is Palin has recognized what the rest of us Conservative’s have recognized that just because you have an R after your name does not necessarily mean you are Conservative and that is her point.

There are no more Zell Miller’s or Shelby’s in the Democrat party however there are some FisCon Dem’s and if not for them both the Cap & Trade and the HealthCare takeover would already be DONE, they are not. Not everything is straight up obvious. You don’t want to give her money fine your choice but until she actually helps a “Conservative D” you got nothing.

I give you another example Martinez in Florida ran against amnesty for illegal’s and then jumped in bed with McCain and Grahamnesty to get it passed, should SarahPac help any of those R’s…hell no! because there is nothing Conservative about them. We could play this R against Conservative game all night long and Sarah Palin and a majority of us here at Redstate recognize the backstabbing the American public has taken from the Republican party and anger and energy we have used to STOP them. They are in the minority because of the traiterous actions.

Zell Miller

Bill@cityonahillpolitics Monday, July 13th at 10:00PM EDT (link)

I’ve always said that if I lived in Georgia, I would have gladly voted for Zell Miller. I think it was more of a ploy to look independent that those comments were made.

I am a conservative first and Republican second. If my party (as it typically does here in NJ) ran a liberal Republican and by chance the Democrats ran a conservative (no way in heck) I would support the Democrat.

I think that was just the point Palin was making. I don’t think she is going to run as an independent.

Leveling with everyone

adamy Monday, July 13th at 10:08PM EDT (link)

I know it sounds like I am harping on this and on some level I probably am.

But Palin was boasting about how her son and husband weren’t Republican. It seems to me like she might be angling for a third party run. And that is only bad news for our party.

If all she was doing was trying to push the GOP to the right by saying she would support conservatives regardless of power - and she didn’t have anything else up her sleeve - then I would give her a pass (even though I am generally not impressed with Palin politically). Point blank - I just don’t think she is smart enough to try to steer the party in this way. Anyone that says that this is her intention is projecting onto her an intention that is far from clear.

'she is not smart enough"? and you come to this conclusion based on what?...nt

She couldn’t come up with one?

And THIS:

That’s why I say, I, like every American I’m speaking with, we’re ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the taxpayers looking to bailout. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are [glances down] concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed [glances down] to help shore up our economy. [glances down] Helping the—oh, it’s got to be about job creation, too, shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So healthcare reform [glances down] and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief [glances down] for Americans, and trade we’ve—we’ve got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive, um, scary thing, but 1 in 5 jobs being created in the trade sector today. We’ve got to look at that as more opportunity. All those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout [is a part of that].

Seriously. The GOP can’t do better? Really?

How long have you had this obsession with Sarah?

Sarah Palin, Jane Fonda & monster-in-law

David123 Monday, July 13th at 10:46PM EDT (link)

If you can stand to watch a Jane Fonda movie, watch Monster-in-law. it’s really funny.

But one scene in it made me think of Sarah Palin, and her attackers.
The Jane Fonda character is a TV person and she interviews a person on her show and asks the interviewee/victim “What newspapers do you read?” Then she physically attacks the interviewee/victim.

Kind of reminds me of that Katie Couric interview. There might even be a way of making a pro-Palin ad by juxtaposing piecess of the Couric interview with scenes from Monster-in-law.

some degree of agreement and then rapidly grew irritated with his continual pounding on the same points over and over. At this juncture, I just wish people would quit talking about Sarah Palin for a while until she actually does something worth talking about.

The end result of all of this continual opinionating without any concrete events to discuss is just solid boredom with the whole thing. Personally, I’d love it if people would set aside this topic for now and concentrate on defeating the enemies of freedom in this country. If we don’t stop them now, we won’t be worrying about debating the pros and cons of any of our candidates. We won’t have a shot at gaining power again for a very long time.

Right now we have a excess of people who want to boost their candidate for 2012, or knock down somebody else’s candidate for 2012. What we do not have are an excess of people who can provide information and/or assistance for 2010 races. If you’re looking to build some credibility here, go with that.

And no, I don’t give a flying leap what Sarah Palin did or did not say, or was or was not assumed to have said, about the 2010 races. Focus.

What is this business where anyone that says anything that isn’t 100 percent supportive of this woman always has their motives questioned?

Why can’t some accept the fact that there is a big chunk of the party that thinks that Palin is poisonous. She doesn’t seem to have intellectual depth or curiosity and isn’t quick on her feet. I liked her speech at the convention and was amped about her on that night. After that I was disappointed with every single performance. The interviews were disastrous. The debate with Biden was bad and she gave canned responses. She just looked stupid when giving an interview while they were offing turkeys in the background. All she does is reinforce the liberal storyline that Republicans are a bunch of stupid hicks. It’s not fair - and a lot of it is a cultural thing, but couldn’t the party try to go in another direction? Just once? When was the last time we had someone really sharp in a debate or on the stump? I loved George W. Bush - but his communication skills left much to be desired. Maybe someone else could have better made the case f or the war in 2005 and 2006 instead of being lambasted by the Democrats and losing so much support as to basically have a majority of the country stop paying attention.

I am and always have been a Republican. I voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004. I voted for McCain in the primary because I didn’t have any other good options by the time 2/5 came around and New York had its primary. I didn’t trust Romney - but given his economic bona fides and his performance in aiding the McCain camp after he lost the primary I came to think I voted for the wrong guy. After a while I got the sense that he proved his worth. He campaigned tirelessly - and that is what we need in 2012. So I am a Romney supporter.

That "chunck of the party"

Vegas_Rick Monday, July 13th at 10:22PM EDT (link)

that you refer to is, more than likely, the group we’re trying to show the door. You certainly sound like one of them.

All of Palin’s actions and statements to date show her to be a limited government, pro-life, strong national defense, liberty loving conservative who strong believes in and supports America’s First Principles.

Until she demonstrates otherwise, you got nothin’ but supposition and vague statements that you have chosen to interpret in the negative way possible.

And where did Josh question your motives?

Ah well, that explains a lot now, doesn't it, adamy?

janis Monday, July 13th at 10:23PM EDT (link)

Romney supporters are quite the vicious little beasts when you don’t support their guy. And at this point, who’s the most likely contender for the throne than Sarah Palin? Ergo, she must be destroyed. I’m not touting her at the only candidate for ‘12, but I’ve got no interest in Romney at all in any year. He’s a slick-tongued opportunist and his staff in ‘08 were nasty little backstabbers.

As to your contention that Sarah Palin has no intellectual depth or curiosity, I do believe the same was said about George W. Bush by those who wished to demean the man who freed 50 million Muslims and somehow or other outfoxed the Dems in the Senate on a regular basis. So forgive me if I’m not impressed with that particular argument. It just makes you look petty, vindictive and small–oh, right, you’re a Romney supporter. Case closed.

Oh come on

adamy Monday, July 13th at 10:39PM EDT (link)

What have I said that is vicious?

Go ahead and tar me all you like, but you still haven’t made the case as to why Palin deserves a prominent role in our party.

Any other soul that quit within two years of his first term would not generate nearly as much controversy or notoriety. What is so special about Palin?

You harp on Sarah Palin's lack of intellect, lack of curiosity,

janis Monday, July 13th at 10:44PM EDT (link)

lack of polish in an interview from last fall. You hammer relentlessly on anyone here who even MILDLY defends her or mentions liking her. I don’t have to tar you, you did it yourself when you finally said you were a Romney-bot. I don’t have to make the case for Sarah Palin in the party–if she’s the real deal, she’ll do it herself.

Something, I might add, that Romney couldn’t do even after spending some, what? $40 million of his own money to try and buy the nomination?

Palin

adamy Monday, July 13th at 10:53PM EDT (link)

Where is Palin then? I didn’t even support Romney last fall. I liked what he did AFTER the nomination process was over. He made the case for McCain. He campaigned for him. And after the election he made the Republican case on the cable news shows and wrote op-eds. He is getting the conservative message out.

So where is Palin? Can you imagine Palin writing an op-ed about the auto bailout in one of the many newspapers she claims to read? Why isn’t she on Meet The Press? Could it be that she seemed so woefully unprepared in every unscripted setting that we’ve seen her in over the past year?

Forget Romney. If someone better comes along I’ll jump ship in a second. But he’s the best we have going for us so far.

Well, I guess that means adamy's not looking for credibility.

Moe Lane Monday, July 13th at 10:56PM EDT (link)

Dude, Palin didn't lose PA, McCain and Bush did.

Section9 Tuesday, July 14th at 9:29AM EDT (link)

Please stop repeating Known Facts as if Saying So Makes Them So.

Pennsylvania was gone after the Lehman Brothers meltdown. McCain got out there and destroyed his campaign by saying that the “fundamentals of the economy are strong”. Obama jumped ugly on him and that was that. The polling separation after September 15th is remarkable.

Palin could have given the Sermon on the Mount, guest starring Jesus Christ the Righteous and McCain wouldn’t have carried PA.

McCain was also dragging the Bush Anchor around him.

Blaming Palin, when she probably juiced PA evangelicals and the rural vote, is stupid. Without her, PA probably would have been worse.

Isn’t there someone out there that can do what Reagan did and completely change the narrative? I don’t know if there is or there isn’t I hope so. But I’m pretty confident that someone ain’t Sarah Palin.

You see we are really in a good position as conservatives. If Barack manages to pull off a modest recovery without too much inflation or taxes that are not crippling, then all of our arguments are just a waste of time because the Democrats will be in power for at least a generation.

But if, as we all believe, he run the train into the ditch, then we wont have to worry about the fickle voters, they will be screaming for something more tangible than stimulus plans and cap and trade bills.

aesthete Monday, July 13th at 11:27PM EDT (link)

Most of the “debate” on SP is between two highly polarized groups who, with limited information and unlimited imagination, have constructed two entirely separate narratives. According to them, Sarah is either the independent, small-town “real American” woman who battles both the “liberal elites” and the “good old boys” to establish and defend her conservative fiefdom in Alaska (all while channeling Reagan on foreign policy), or she’s the devil incarnate, a yokel who is simultaneously mind-blowingly stupid and crafty enough to dupe the Republican hoi-polloi. Both views are unfair to Sarah Palin, and stop rational conversation from occurring. Hopefully, by the time it becomes important, we can have a more rational conversation on SP.

you are confident its not her but....

kyle8 Monday, July 13th at 10:58PM EDT (link)

She has certainly come the closest of anyone since Reagan, That is the reason for her appeal.

I am not a big Palin booster, but you put me in the position of taking up for her. She is certainly not stupid and we will certainly hear more of her in the future.

But the right person will come along, rest assured, because politics, like nature abhors a vacuum.

The problem is with people like you, if the person who seems to be catching fire is not to your liking, then you will inanely attack them. That is how sad politics has become.

If you want to help your cause, you should stop posting on SP

aesthete Monday, July 13th at 11:01PM EDT (link)

Good God, I’m not a Palinista, and even I want to defend her! :) 2012 is, as you yourself have stated, 3 years away. At this point, there is no point in talking about potential candidates, and talking about 2012 prospects is pointless at this stage in the game. We don’t even know if SP will be a factor in 2012, or what she will do for or against Republicans. Do I agree with Josh? No, and, IMO, his diary was not particularly relevant to what we should be concentrated on. However, 2 wrongs don’t make a right, and if you want to make a bigger difference in the future, legitimizing yourself by posting on other issues, and laying off of the SP stuff will give you more credibility when the time for such talk rolls around. Just some friendly advice :)

Look. Fine. I’ll take your advice and agree to disagree on Palin.

But if she does what I think she is going to do and try a third-party run I reserve the right to say “I told you so”.

We’ll see.

Yeah, you need to shut up.

I’ve tried in at least five separate comments to engage you in a debate based on facts. You have chosen to drop one-liners around the thread and avoid every attempt at issue based discussion.

Verdict. You’re a troll, or a young progressive who calls himself a Republican. Same difference.

I have no more time to waste on you.

You just had to have the last word and then compounded the unpleasantness of your tone by promising to come back and tell us “I told you so.” So are you gonna do it in the really annoying singsongy voice that 14 year olds use?

We’ll see.

Unless that third-party run is going to take place in 2010, it is completely irrelevant at this time. Our attention needs to be on the House, Senate, and Governor races for 2010. We can start worrying about 2012 presidential races after those races are over. I am not a strong Palin supporter, but I don’t see her running as a 3rd party, or supporting liberals, and I am quite certain that she is not stupid as you have stated. But, none of this is relevant at this time.

No, adamy, you will do no such thing. (Read this.)

aesthete, my post was not a "wrong"

Josh Painter Tuesday, July 14th at 12:41AM EDT (link)

This was a legitimate political news item, and I posted it knowing that many of our members would be interested in what her PAC did over the past five months.

Lately, I’ve been putting my Palin posts down in the member diaries, which I will continue to do, unless they are Front Page news. Nearly every major legacy news outlet and many blogs, both left and right, mentioned this story. I linked to the ones I considered to have the best information.

This story is relevant to the 2010 elections in that Palin will be campaigning for and raising money for many of the 2010 candidates, as will Romney, Huckabee, Jindal, Barbour and Gingrich.

I worked in journalism, back when it still was jounalism, for over two decades. I believe i know when a story is newsworthy. So I’ll thank you not to say I’m “wrong” to post what I post here.

Wrong? Nah, sorry about saying that. Ill-advised? IMO, yes

aesthete Tuesday, July 14th at 1:18AM EDT (link)

Perhaps if this had been presented (and put in context) with 2010 in mind, I would be more inclined to agree: I believe that I’ve posted elsewhere my opinion that SP’s activities in relation to 2010 or the current political scene are worthy of a diary. However, the way that the material was presented (as a p***ing contest between Sarah Palin and Romney) inevitably sets the diary up as a 2012 diary. Certainly, that’s what I got from the diary, and, judging by the subject material of the comments on the thread, that’s what most others got out of it, even if you remove all of the comments from and responding to adamy. I don’t mind a little bit of talk on 2012, but at this critical juncture, and when we have already had this discussion several times, I don’t see much reason to post what is a piece of news of negligible impact for the moment in a way that will rekindle the useless 2012 debate that we’ve already had.

Again, sorry for using the word, “wrong”, don’t want to impugn your reputation by making it look like I was questioning your morality, but I stand by the sentiment behind my statement.

I love your sig, btw. Can’t have too much RA Heinlein :)

"Intellectual depth" and "curiosity"

Josh Painter Tuesday, July 14th at 12:30AM EDT (link)

are two items right of the Democrat Party list of Anti-Palin talking points. The only people who use them are leftists and Vichy Republicans. Which one are you?

Go read her Twitter page and you will that she is interested in and curious about things to the same degree as any governor, if not more so, given her state’s uniqueness.

If you want to criticize her *record*, that is fair game. Tell us what bills she signed that you believe she should have vetoed and vice versa. Go to her ontheissues.org page and learn something about her. Then come back here and debate her on her record - not on this bogus moby crap you keep spewing.

With guns at their heads conservatives voted for the alleged GOP candidate McCain. A man who had no intention of winning, didn’t care, praised Obama every chance he got. Desperate citizens begged him to act like he cared. If the GOP thinks they can give us another one of these jokers they’re mistaken. People have limits. As far as Governor Palin, the Wash. Times article mentioned (at the end) that a republican named Andree McCleod had filed a number of the frivolous suits in Alaska. Assuming McCleod is actually a republican acting on someone’s cues, Mrs. Palin would be unwise to give her support only to GOP candidates. P.S. I suggest the last crumbs of country club republicans start packing their bags. They’ve had their chance and blew it.

But the last 10 minutes have been a waste of my life.

The bottom line is this, if we’ve learned one thing about Governor Palin, we’ve learned that she doesn’t speak in opinion crowd approved statements like the majority of politicians try to. Her statements can be interpreted different ways. Because she is such an intriguing (and potentially inspiring) political figure, we are incredibly quick to take her statements to the extreme. Time will tell, and we can choose to trust her or not based on her history.

Could the statement mean she’s looking at substance and not labels? Likely. I’ll pass negative judgment once I see the specific dem(s) she endorses / campaigns for, and what their voting block’s make up is.

sheesh /endrant

Adamy, you keep making the same argument

septembergurl Monday, July 13th at 11:31PM EDT (link)

She doesn’t read the NY Times (or whatever) or she would not or could not say what she did read, therefore you draw the conclusion that she’s stupid, incurious, etc.

Now really.

First of all, reading (or saying you read) the NY Times means nothing. As I recall GWB was asked a similar question by some media pinhead and he responded to the effect that he didn’t need to read newspapers since he was Presiedent. He made the news, other people read it. This was a big moment for Bush haters to slap their foreheads at his stupidity, but it’s a good point, isn’t it?

I would think Sarah has the same view. Can you blame her? She has made news constantly, consistently. She does things and as a result, pinheads in the media chatter and screech, or, as you are doing, fixate on one statement which you think proves your point. It doesn’t. stop wasting everybody’s time!

I Have A Dream

Scope Tuesday, July 14th at 9:47AM EDT (link)

for 2010. If Palin spends the next year and a half going to as many places in the country, speaking for Conservatives, and Conservative ideas and principles, unshackled by McCain and his” talk nice about Obama” staffers, and speaks out loudly and convincingly about the destruction that Obama and his Liberals are creating, she has my support. If she can help defeat the Liberal majorities in the House and Senate in 2010, she will be a major player in the future. The TEA parties are not just populated by Republicans, they are attracting those that want to take our country back to sanity, and they are people from all parties. When Palin said that she will support “Conservatives” in any party, or those that have no party affiliation, she is speaking to a much wider audience than just the 40% who polled as Conservative, and hopefully she will expand the tent without giving up her Conservative principles to do it. If Palin can accomplish that, the field of candidates for the 2012 primaries will shrink drastically. If Palin does what I suspect she will, she would never have been able to do anything while strapped to her Governors chair in Alaska until sometime in 2010.
